Mountain View won, 8-6, after leading 7-3 at halftime.

April 23 - American Fork @ Lehi (Boy’s)
Lehi won, 9-6. Reed Neilsen had 4 goals and Stockton Dorton had 2 goals and 1 assist.

April 23 - Davis @ Syracuse (Boy’s)
Davis won, 10-6. Bennett Kearl had 6 points and William Marsh had 5 goals for the Darts.

CE: I think the travel for Desert Hills will be difficult to overcome. I think Alta wins.

RH: Witnessed Desert Hills play, they have some strong athletes. It’s a tough road trip but I think they are up to the challenge. Desert Hills in a close one.

LM: Alta has been full of surprises this year. Count on another one in this game.

I was at the RMLC tournament on Friday and had great conversations with several lacrosse fans/coaches/etc. A topic that came up was former high schools that had teams. It’s interesting to me because it involves the history of our sport in the state. We talked about The Oakley School and how they had some really great teams and an All-American in James Seabrooke. There was of course Cottonwood, Murray, UMA, Summit Academy and a few teams that were pulled from a few different schools including the Spanish Fork Warriors!

Before the Bountiful v. Olympus game I was chatting with the Oly staff and they asked who the best goalie to play high school lacrosse in Utah was. I told them, “I’m old, so I’d go with ‘Chuckie’” a.k.a. Chris Powers. Powers played at Alta and BYU then NYIT where he led the Bears to an NCAA D-II championship. Other great goalies that came up were Dallas McLellan (Juan Diego/Westminster) and Sean Edwards (Juan Diego/Westminster). As I thought more about it, there is Kimber Hower who played at Brighton and North Carolina/Syracuse. My personal favorite goalie was Matt Crispo from Judge. I’d love to hear it from you, the reader… Who do you think the best goalies to play in Utah have been?

Mens

The college regular season has come to a close for all Utah teams and the playoff season has begun. There were multiple opportunities to get out to a game this weekend and I hope you did! Three games were settled by one goal including two that went to overtime.

MCLA
We’ll start in the MCLA this week as UVU hosted the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse Conference playoffs at Zions Bank Stadium on Friday and Saturday. On Friday, in the MCLA D-II ranks, Utah State lost to Air Force Club, 17-8, and Montana State beat Denver Club, 17-11. Air Force Club then beat Montana State, 15-12, to earn an AQ spot to the MCLA D-II National Championship.

In the D-I ranks, on Friday, UVU took on Colorado and won, 10-5, while BYU faced Colorado State and won, 14-7. This set up the second matchup for the Wolverines and Cougars this season as the No. 1 and No. 2 team in the country. This time, the RMLC D-I Championship was at stake. The game was an instant classic for this rivalry. UVU earned a 3-0 lead early in the first and led 4-3 after the first quarter then it was tied at halftime, 5-5. UVU led by a goal after three quarters but BYU won the fourth quarter, 4-2, and ultimately the game by the score of 11-10.

Hutton Murphy was the one who notched the game-winning goal for the Cougars with 58 seconds left in regulation. The win was the Cougars 13th RMLC title. Both teams learned their MCLA National Tournament fate on Sunday night and BYU grabbed the No. 1 seed and will face No. 16 Michigan State. UVU is the No. 2 seed and will take on No. 15 Oregon.

In 2024, No. 1 BYU also played No. 16 Michigan State. BYU won that game 19-4. BYU went on to with the National Championship that year with wins over No. 8 San Diego State, No. 4 Liberty and of course, No. 14 UVU.

This will be the first matchup between UVU and Oregon. The teams were scheduled to play in 2020 but we know how that went. The Ducks came to Utah this year and played BYU, a 19-9 loss, and the Utah Club team, a 12-11 loss. UVU was the No. 2 seed last year and beat No. 15 Boise State, 18-7, No. 7 Northeastern, 14-5, then lost to No. 3 Georgia Tech, 17-14 in the semis.

The games will take place May 4 - 9 at the River City Sportsplex in Midlothian, Virginia.

NCAA
The Westminster Griffins hosted the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference tournament this weekend and beat Northwest Nazarene on Friday, 20-10. Concordia University Irvine beat Colorado Mesa, 13-12, in overtime.

On Sunday, CUI took the RMAC Championship after beating the Griffins, 12-11, in overtime. Westminster finished the year 11-5.

Utah hosted Air Force in the regular-season finale for both teams and lost, 14-13, in overtime. Utah will head to Jacksonville as the No. 2 seed in the ASUN tournament and will take on Air Force once again who is the No. 3 seed. The game will begin at 4:00pm MT and will be available on ESPN+. The other semifinal will be No. 1 Jacksonville versus No. 4 Mercer at 1:00pm MT.

The crazy stat of the week is that Utah and Air Force have squared off nine times and seven of the games have been settled by one goal including two overtime games.

Womens

Westminster headed to Denver for the RMAC tournament and fell in the championship game to Regis, 14-5.

In the WCLA, Utah earned the No. 12 seed and will take on No. 5 Michigan at the WCLA National Tournament which begins on May 11 in Naples, Florida.

Boys’ Week 8 Coaches Poll

No. 1 Park City - The Miners came back from Spring Break and took on West Jordan on Wednesday, winning 14-1. The Miners then hosted No. 5 Farmington and won, 9-4. See the recap below for how the game shook out. Park City will face No. 6 Olympus on Tuesday then host No. 10 Judge Memorial on Friday. The Miners then take on No. 2 Corner Canyon on May 6 and Green Canyon on May 8.

No. 2 Corner Canyon - The Chargers took on two region opponents this week in American Fork and Lone Peak and had a combined score of 39-8. Pierson DeGracie had 10 goals and 3 assists over the two-game stretch. A region showdown with No. 8 Skyridge looms on Tuesday then a region game against Lehi on Friday. The Chargers take on No. 1 Park City on May 6 and East on May 8.

No. 3 Alta - The Hawks had three games this week and beat Davis, 16-9, Woods Cross, 16-7, and Viewmont, 16-5. Beckham Horoba had 10 goals and 15 assists over the three-game span. Alta will host Skyline on Wednesday then take on No. 6 Olympus on Friday. The Hawks will finish the regular season on May 6 against No. 7 Bountiful.

No. 4 Brighton - Brighton also played three games this week, beating Mountain Ridge, 15-12, Skyline 17-6 and No. 7 Bountiful, 13-4. Zac Anderson had 6 goals and 2 assists for the Bengals against Mountain Ridge. Brighton will take on No. 9 Juan Diego on Tuesday and Viewmont on Friday. The Bengals finish the season on May 6 against No. 6 Olympus.

No. 5 Farmington - The Phoenix beat Layton, 23-0, then lost to No. 1 Park City, 9-4. See the recap below. Farmington will face Weber on Tuesday in a key region game. Thursday will see rival Davis come down the road. Farmington will finish the season with Syracuse, Layton and No. 10 Judge Memorial.

No. 6 Olympus - The Titans lost to No. 7 Bountiful, 7-6, in its lone game this week. Jacob Buxton and James Cannon both had a goal and an assist to lead the Titans. Olympus will finish the season with four home games: No. 1 Park City on Tuesday, Viewmont, No. 3 Alta and No. 4 Brighton.

No. 7 Bountiful - The Redhawks beat No. 6 Olympus, 7-6, on Wednesday then lost to No. 4 Brighton on Friday, 13-4. Carter Terry had 2 goals and 1 assist for the Redhawks against the Bengals. Bountiful will take on Woods Cross on Wednesday, Skyline on Friday and No. 3 Alta on May 6.

No. 8 Skyridge - The Falcons beat Lehi, 19-5. Carson Butterfield had 5 goals and 1 assist with Dylan Forsgren notching 4 goals and 1 assist for Skyridge against the Pioneers. Skyridge hosts No. 2 Corner Canyon on Tuesday and will head to Lone Peak on Friday. The final game for Skyridge in the regular season will be on May 8 against Hillcrest.

No. 9 Juan Diego - The Soaring Eagle were tested on Wednesday by Waterford but ultimately won in overtime, 11-10. Chris Jimerson had the game-winning goal in overtime and had another goal and assist on the night. Cooper Pecora went 19 of 21 from the faceoff dot. Juan Diego will take on No. 4 Brighton on Tuesday and Snow Canyon on Friday. The Soaring Eagle will then take part in the Region 10 playoffs on May 6 and May 8.

No. 10 Judge Memorial - The Bulldogs beat East, 17-7, and Hillcrest, 19-2, in two region contests this week. Dylan Hersh had 1 goal and 5 assists against East. Rome Swanwick added 4 goals and 2 assists. Judge will take on West Jordan on Wednesday and No. 1 Park City on Friday. The Bulldogs finish out the season on May 6 against Lone Peak and No. 5 Farmington on May 8.

Region Outlook

This is how we see the regions shaking out. Obviously anything can happen and nothing is set in stone until all games are played!

Region 1 - Farmington is in the driver’s seat but the game on Tuesday against Weber will be important. If Weber wins, it would share the region title with the Phoenix.

Region 2 - Bingham and Mountain Ridge remain undefeated in region play. Their game on Tuesday will likely determine the region champ.

Region 3 - Corner Canyon heads to Skyridge on Tuesday in a game that will decide who takes home the region title.

Region 4 - Park City and Judge play on Friday in a game that will likely determine who wins the title.

Region 5 - West Field leads the region, but Box Elder is on the doorstep. They play on Wednesday. West Field won the first matchup, 17-6.

Region 6 - Alta is 3-0 in region while Brighton, Bountiful and Olympus have 1 loss in region play. There is potential for any of these teams to take the crown. We’ll know more after this week.

Region 7 - Wasatch and Timpview are both 4-0 in region. They play on Friday. However, Pleasant Grove is 3-1 and also will play Wasatch this week and Timpview next week.

Region 8 - Timpanogos is 4-0 and will face Provo and Orem again. The T-Wolves beat Orem, 17-4 and Provo, 11-4 already so winning the region is within reach.

Region 9 - Snow Canyon (5-0 in region) is in control after beating Dixie on April 15. The Warriors will host Hurricane on Tuesday who is 4-1.

Region 10 - Juan Diego is 3-0 but the winner of this region will be determined in the Region 10 playoffs in the last week of the season.

Region 11 - Bear River leads at 4-1. The Bears face Green Canyon (3-1), Sky View (1-3) and Mountain Crest (1-3) to finish the season.

Boys Spotlight Game of the Week by Hill and Hill Photography

Week 8 – Farmington vs Park City

Though chasing different classification trophies, 5A Park City and 6A Farmington had this “statement game” circled on their calendars for weeks. Both Top 5 programs boast high-powered offenses and physical defenses, making them legitimate state championship contenders.

From the opening face-off, the pace was relentless. Park City capitalized on the electric atmosphere early, as Parker Jones and Matix Black secured a 2-0 lead that held through the end of the first quarter.

Farmington refused to let the game slip away. Behind key defensive adjustments and point-blank saves from goalie Brandon Barrus, the Phoenix stayed within reach. Ryder Hill opened the second quarter with a goal just 40 seconds in, cutting the lead to 2-1. While Park City’s Crew Kimble and Thomas Fannon extended the Miners’ lead, Farmington’s Brock Milne and Wyatt Salmon answered late to bring the score to 4-3 at the half.

The third quarter was a defensive masterclass. Long-pole pressure and stellar play from Barrus and Park City’s Max Gordon kept the scoreboard nearly frozen. It wasn’t until the 3:24 mark that Farmington’s Cole Smith finally tied the game at 4-4.

The fourth quarter belonged entirely to Park City. Their defense hounded the Phoenix while the offense finally found the gaps. With Fannon netting two more goals alongside scores from Jones, Jesse Dittmer, and Wade Birch, the Miners surged ahead. A five-goal final frame sealed a hard-fought 9-4 victory.

The road stays tough for the Miners as they face Olympus and Judge this week. Farmington will look to bounce back in region play against Weber and Davis.

Girls’ Week 8 Coaches Poll

No. 1 Park City will face off with No. 2 Riverton this week. While Riverton has an unbroken winning record, all of the Miner’s losses have happened out of state. Senior standout Lily Yatkeman anchors a formidable defense that has held nearly every opponent to single digits, will she keep Riverton at bay?

No. 2 Riverton could have its winning streak broken this week when they face off against No. 1 Park City. But the Silverwolves aren’t going to let it happen without a fight.

No. 3 Skyridge picked up a big win over Farmington this past week, and they could go on a four-win run in their coming games prior to the playoffs.

No. 4 Bear River could very well be on its way to another region championship. The next two weeks look like they could take some time to hone their skills and really aim to take it all.

No. 5 Mountain Ridge is a strong team, but when they come up against tough opponents they falter. Let’s see how they finish out the season.

No. 6 West Jordan have established themselves as a premier powerhouse in their division. Senior star Lily Henderson anchors the high-octane offense, leading the charge with a staggering 90 points this season.

No. 7 Brighton boasts a high-powered offense that has proven difficult for even the toughest defenses to contain. Senior standout Sophie Nielsen continues to dominate the field, leading the team’s scoring efforts as Brighton remains a dangerous threat in the 5A landscape.

No. 8 Fremont is having an amazing season and could finish the season with a 15-2 record. Will this put them in a position to take their division?

No. 9 Lone Peak’s offensive juggernaut is powered by seniors Norah Lisonbee and Lucy McMurray, who combined for 12 goals in their recent dominant win over Corner Canyon.

No. 10 Provo hasn’t gotten a lot of attention this year, but don’t sleep on them. The Bulldogs have a stellar 13-1 record, currently dominating Division 4A as the #2 ranked team in the classification. Sophomore midfielder Lily Andelin is a key part of a deep roster that features a stifling defense and a high-powered offense averaging over 15 goals per game.

Region Outlook

Region 1 - This is one of the tightest region races in any gender or classification this year. Farmington is 3-1 and Davis, Weber and Syracuse are 3-2. There are still too many games left to declare a clear winner.

Region 2 - Riverton looks to be the front-runner after a 10-7 over Mountain Ridge on Friday. Herriman could have a say though!

Region 3 - Skyridge sits in the top spot at 6-0 and should stay there with 2 region games left.

Region 4 - There haven’t been any region games played, so this one should come down to the winner of Park City/West Jordan on Tuesday.

Region 5 - Fremont is the team to beat, sitting at 9-0 in region play.

Region 6 - Brighton leads the way at 4-0. Olympus is 3-0 in region and will play Brighton on May 6.

Region 7 - Payson is 4-0 in region and will take on the challenger Salem Hills on 5/1.

Region 8 - Provo is comfortably in the lead and should win the region.

Region 9 - Hurricane is at 5-0 and are likely to win the region.

Region 10 - Judge sits at the top but the Region playoffs will determine who wins this region.

Region 11 - Bear River is 6-0 in region play and will win the region.

Girls Spotlight Game of the Week by Hill and Hill Photography

Week 8 - Corner Canyon vs Lone Peak

With the state playoffs approaching, Lone Peak solidified its region standing with a commanding 19-8 victory over Corner Canyon. The Knights’ dominance was established at the draw circle, where Lucy McMurray controlled possession throughout the contest.

The game opened with an immediate offensive burst. Nora Lisonbee scored off a McMurray draw control, and McMurray followed with a solo effort to put the Knights up 2-0 within minutes. Although Corner Canyon’s Madilyn Story briefly halted the momentum, Lone Peak closed the first quarter with a 4-1 lead. The Knights extended their advantage in the second, scoring in bunches. Lisonbee secured an early hat trick, while McMurray and Summer Galbraith helped build a 9-2 halftime cushion.

The Chargers responded with urgency in the third quarter. Alice Linford, Taylor Jones, and Avery Berger spearheaded a comeback attempt that cut the lead to 12-7. However, timely goals from Lisonbee and Emmy Anderson kept the Knights from losing their grip on the game.

Lone Peak shut the door in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Chargers 7-1. McMurray and Lisonbee both finished the day with six goals apiece, while Natalie Smith and Galbraith added to the final tally.

The Knights now look ahead to a massive matchup against region-leading Skyridge next Friday after facing American Fork. Corner Canyon also faces a difficult stretch, hosting both Skyridge and Lehi next week.

Wasatch Whalers in Prague
The Wasatch Whalers are in Prague for the Aleš Hřebeský Memorial tournament. The Whalers went 2-3 at the event. The outdoor venue looked incredible! Merritt McMahon had 5 goals and 2 assists on the week. Casey Rich had 4 goals and 3 assists. Goalies Gavin Beilman and Josh McDougall had 49 combined saves.

April 14 - Herriman @ East (Boy’s)
East came out and blew the doors off, winning 22-8. The Leopards led 14-4 at halftime.

April 15 - Alta @ Brighton (Boy’s)
This game between Top 5 opponents ended up living up to the billing as Alta won, 14-13.

RH: Great matchup with both teams very motivated for the win, I’m going with AF and the power of the faceoff and possession.

LM: This may be the tightest match of the week. But I think Lehi will walk away with in OT.

RH: Payson is always strong, a little quit this year, but still strong. The Lions take this one.

LM: Payson is an amazing team, and I am glad that people are paying attention to Myka. It will be close, but I think they win.

LM: This should be a pretty easy win for Green Canyon. Shout out to Logan, though, for stepping up with their offense this season. They have closed the gap on scoring in games this year.

RH: Snow Canyon in this one, pretty even, but I will go with SC’s defense in a low scoring game.

LM: This is a tricky one. Both schools are relatively new to play, and still figuring things out. I’m going with Desert Hills.

College

Mens

The college action started on Wednesday with No. 2 BYU hosting the Utah Club team in Provo. A dominant first quarter by the Cougars was the difference in this one as they scored 11 goals and allowed just 2. The Cougars scored 10 goals the rest of the game while the Utes had trouble finding a flow offensively. Gavin Taylor, Cade Kirschner and Hutton Murphy finished with 6 points. Mason Quick had 5 points as the Cougars retained The Beehive Trophy for another year.

On Saturday, Utah beat Queens, 18-0, which was Utah’s first shutout in school history. Luke McNamara had 6 goals and broke the Utah single-season goal record in the process. Zach White finished with 1 goal and 6 assists. Luca Pivetta, Blake Franckowiak, Joel Mullen and Nikko DiPonio each had 2 or more takeaways for the Utes. Utah went 15-22 from the faceoff X. Colin Lenskold finished with 2 saves in 45 minutes of play, then made way for Ethan Jaffe who notched 4 saves in his second game for the Utes.

Westminster took care of business against Northwest Nazarene, winning 20-7, and clinched the RMAC Regular Season Championship. Luke Sillstrop had 5 goals and 1 assist. Ridge Crouch had 3 goals and 2 assists. Theo Le had 4 points. Christian Jones had 12 saves for the Griffins.

BYU hosted Utah Tech and won, 17-5. Quick had 5 goals and 2 assists while Kirschner and Taylor had 5 points each. Easton Wilkey had 13 saves. Harley Kenney made several great saves for the Trailblazers.

The nightcap featured No. 1 Utah Valley hosted the Utah Club team and won 17-8. The game was closer than the score suggests and at one point the Utes were within 4 late in the game. The Wolverines put it into high gear in the fourth while scoring 6 goals and allowing 1. Utah Goalie Anton Goodick stood tall for the Utes making save after save.

Coming Up
If you’re a college lacrosse fan, this week was built for you. On Friday, fans can catch 6 conference tournament games featuring four Utah teams.

Westminster is hosting the RMAC tournament and will take on Northwest Nazarene at 4:00pm at Dumke Field. Colorado Mesa will then take on Concordia-Irvine at 7:00pm. The winner of each game will play on Sunday at 1:00pm MT for the RMAC Championship which holds an Automatic Qualifier spot to the NCAA D-II tournament. All games will be streamed on the RMAC Network.

Utah Valley is hosting both the D-I and D-II RMLC tournament at Zions Bank Stadium beginning on Friday. In D-II, Montana State will take on Denver Club and Air Force Club will take on Utah State. The D-I games feature UVU taking on Colorado at 4:00pm and BYU facing Colorado State at 7:00pm. The winner of the D-II games will compete for the championship game at 11:00am on Saturday. The D-I championship game will be at 3:00pm on Saturday. All games will be streamed on tv.mcla.us.

Last but not least, Utah will host Air Force in the last regular-season game for the Utes. The game will begin at Noon after Senior Day festivities at Ute Field. The Utes have clinched a spot in the ASUN tournament and a win will give Utah the regular-season title and No. 1 seed in the ASUN tournament that begins next week in Jacksonville, Florida. Womens

Westminster went 2-0 on the weekend with a 14-8 win over CSU-Pueblo and a 20-3 win over Regis on Sunday.

The Griffins qualified for the RMAC Tournament as the No. 3 seed and will face UCCS on Thursday at 7:00pm. The game will be streamed on the RMAC Network and will be played at Regis in Denver. The winner of this game will face the winner of Regis/Colorado Mesa on Saturday for the RMAC Championship.

The fate of the WCLA teams will be known this week as the WCLA National Tournament teams will receive invites. Utah is headed to Richmond as the RWMLL AQ pick so the other Utah teams will rely on an at-large bid.

Boys’ Week 7 Coaches Poll

No. 1 Park City is the lone team whose position didn’t move this week. The Miners had the week off and will take on West Jordan on Wednesday. Park City will then host No. 5 Farmington on Friday.

No. 2 Corner Canyon beat No. 8 Judge on Tuesday, 9-7. Cameron Crayk had 3 goals for the Chargers. Jack Rasmussen had 14 saves in the win. Corner Canyon opens region play this week as it hosts American Fork and Lone Peak.

No. 3 Brighton lost to No. 4 Alta, 14-13 on Wednesday then beat Woods Cross, 15-2, on Friday. Dylan Despain had 3 goals and 3 assists for the Bengals against Alta. Brighton faces Mountain Ridge on Tuesday, Skyline on Wednesday and No. 7 Bountiful on Friday.

No. 4 Alta beat No. 3 Brighton on Wednesday then beat East, 15-7, on Friday. Beckham Horoba had 6 goals and 6 assists over the two games. Bridger Tueller was a key factor for the successful week with 23 combined saves.

No. 5 Farmington beat Davis, 16-2, and Syracuse, 22-2. Brock Milne was the star of the week offensively for the Phoenix. The Junior had 11 goals and 3 assists. The Phoenix will head to Layton on Tuesday then No. 1 Park City on Friday.

No. 6 Olympus beat Woods Cross, 18-3, and Skyline, 14-4. James Cannon had 9 goals and 2 assists this week for the Titans. Oly has five games remaining and four of them are against Top 10 teams. It begins this Wednesday against No. 7 Bountiful. The Titans then face No. 1 Park City, Viewmont, No. 4 Alta and No. 3 Brighton.

No. 7 Bountiful beat Viewmont this week, 18-1. Carter Terry had 5 goals and 2 assists in the win. Dawson Allsop went 16-17 from the faceoff X. The Redhawks travel to Highland today then face No. 6 Olympus on Wednesday and No. 3 Brighton on Friday.

No. 8 Judge lost to No. 2 Corner Canyon, 9-7, on Tuesday then made the trip to Grand Junction on Friday to take on the Tigers. It was a classic game but ultimately the Tigers won, 10-9. Freddy Gowski had 2 goals and 2 assists against Corner Canyon to lead the Bulldogs. Dallas Mattena went 15-20 from the faceoff X. East and Hillcrest are up next for Judge. Games against No. 1 Park City and No. 5 Farmington loom large and will happen on May 1 and May 8 respectively.

No. 9 Skyridge beat American Fork, 22-4, this week. Cabell Buechner had 2 goals and 6 assists for the Falcons. Kaiden Hobbs had 4 goals and 3 assists. Skyridge will host Lehi and Canyon View this week before hosting No. 2 Corner Canyon on April 28.

No. 10 Juan Diego beat Sky View, 11-5, on Friday. Trey Nicolodemos had 2 goals and 3 assists. Cooper Pecora went 18-19 from the faceoff X. The Soaring Eagle will face Waterford on Wednesday and Jordan on Friday.

Week 7 – Dixie vs Hillcrest

The 4A Dixie Flyers traveled north for a Saturday doubleheader, starting in Midvale against the 5A Hillcrest Huskies. The Flyers dominated early, fueled by seniors Noah Biehl and Ryan Turman, who combined for seven goals in the first quarter. Biehl set the tone immediately, scoring just 10 seconds after the opening faceoff and adding another less than a minute later. By the end of the first, Dixie held a commanding 7-0 lead.

The Flyers extended their lead to 10-0 in the second quarter with goals from Turman, Eastin Gates, and Scott Edie. Hillcrest finally broke the shutout before halftime when Franco Winders found a crease to make it 10-1.

The Huskies rallied in the second half with a more physical defense and improved possession. Quick scores from Ian Pelger and Ivan Pearson cut the lead to 10-3. While Dixie’s Caleb Field briefly slowed the momentum, Hillcrest added two more goals from Lars Dalgleish and Winders to pull within six. However, Turman stifled the comeback by netting two late goals, entering the final frame up 13-5.

In the fourth quarter, Hillcrest outscored Dixie 4-1, including two goals by Ivan Pearson. Despite the Huskies’ late-game surge, they couldn’t overcome Dixie’s early offensive explosion. The Flyers secured a 14-9 victory before heading to their second game against Bonneville, while Hillcrest prepared to host Hurricane later that afternoon.

Girls’ Week 7 Coaches Poll

No. 1 Park City is still at the top of the heap, and that is unlikely to change as we head into the final weeks of regular play. The team was on spring break last week, but will hit the field again on Tuesday to take on Lone Peak before finally facing off against Riverton on the 28th.

No. 2 Riverton is still unbeaten. It will be interesting to see how long they can continue the streak. They likely will keep it clean this week as they face off with Bingham, but could Park City stop them? Or could they take down the Miners and claim the top spot.

No. 3 Skyridge is a powerhouse in the field. The team is a high-scoring machine, topping more than 20 points in most of their games. This week, they have a rematch with Lehi before taking on Farmington.

No. 4 Bear River is the only other undefeated team in the top 10. They are showing that even after losing several top players last year they are still a force to be reckoned with. Their schedule this week, with games against Logan and Ridgeline, means it is unlikely their win streak will be broken.

No. 5 Mountain Ridge had a decisive victory over Copper Hills this week, with sophomore Lucy Rigby scoring an amazing seven goals. Rigby is rivaling Park City’s Natalia Szwajkun as the best 2028 player in the state. This week will be rough as they face Riverton, but it will be interesting to see what Rigby can do against the Silverwolves.

No. 6 West Jordan will face off with Salem Hills this week, and both teams have similar records heading into the game. That could cause some changes in next week’s poll, so keep an eye on what happens.

No. 7 Fremont has the powerful pair of junior Makenzi Overdiek and senior Kate Jenkins, who have led them to multiple wins, topping 20 points. They don’t have a lot of major competition in the coming weeks, so it will be interesting to see what happens in the playoffs.

No. 8 Brighton has had a great season. In most of their wins, they have doubled the scores of their opponents, showing excellent work on both the offensive and defensive sides. They face off with Skyline again this week, and the Eagles will be looking for revenge. We’ll see if they get it.

No. 9 Provo only has one loss on their sheet for the season, and they want to keep it that way. We will see if they can do it in the final six games of the season.

No. 10 Salem Hills is new to the rankings this week, but don’t expect them to be leaving any time soon. Their game this week against West Jordan could really shake things up.

Week 7 - Woods Cross vs Brighton

The Brighton Bengals entered their Region 6 matchup against the Woods Cross Wildcats in a deceptively quiet season, but they made a loud statement Friday night at Freestone Field with a dominant 17-5 victory.

The tone was set just 12 seconds into the game when Sophie Nielson won the opening draw and scored—the first of her 10 goals on the night. Supported by goals from Siri Thackery and Gabby Raemish, Brighton jumped to a 4-0 lead. Woods Cross’s Hunter Thomas broke the shutout with 46 seconds left in the quarter, providing a brief spark for the Wildcats.

In the second quarter, Savannah Carter cut the Bengal lead to two, but Nielson responded with back-to-back goals. Although Ellie DeWaal scored for Woods Cross to keep the game within reach, Brighton’s Chloe Smith netted a goal just before the halftime buzzer to secure a 7-3 lead.

Brighton pulled away in the third quarter. Nielson scored four more times, while Raemish completed a hat trick and Thackery added another. Despite a goal from the Wildcats’ Lilli Dunn, the Bengals headed into the final period with a commanding 14-4 advantage.

The fourth quarter was a clinic in possession. Nielson, Raemish, and Emery Gallegos all found the net, bringing Brighton’s total to 17 goals from five different players. A late score by the Wildcats’ Katie Stewart finalized the score at 17-5.

Brighton looks to carry this momentum to Viewmont next week, while Woods Cross hopes to bounce back at home against Alta.

The Whalers headed to Prague and will participate in the Aleš Hřebeský Memorial Tournament. The squad will begin play on Wednesday against the Nanaimo Timberman then face Adler Lacrosse on Thursday.

Hazel Baker (Olympus → Oregon)

Baker was named the Utah 5A Player of the Year in 2024, earning first-team all-state honors in 2022 and 2023 and being selected as a USA Lacrosse All-American. A four-time first-team all-region selection, she led Olympus to 5A state championships as a sophomore and senior and was named state championship game MVP in 2022. She started all four years at Olympus, served as team captain as a junior and senior, and totaled 221 goals and 96 assists while also earning USA Lacrosse all-academic honors, National Honor Society membership, and two-time honor roll recognition. Baker is in her Sophomore year at Oregon, playing in 9 games and scoring 1 goal and notching 3 assists.

When did you first realize that playing college lacrosse was a real possibility for you?
I realized it after meeting Hannah Hyatt at a clinic. She played at Boston College and later sent me her signed stick with “Dream Big!” written on it. That moment motivated me to pursue college lacrosse.

What’s the biggest adjustment you had to make when you arrived on campus—on the field or off?
On the field, the game speed was the biggest adjustment. Off the field, balancing academics, practice, recovery, and daily life as a Division I athlete required building strong routines.

How do your teammates and coaches react when they find out you’re from Utah?
They’re curious about what lacrosse in Utah is like since it’s a non-traditional but growing area for the sport.

What advice would you give a Utah high school player who wants to play at the next level?
Bet on yourself. If you’re passionate and willing to work hard, the opportunity is there. The process is challenging but incredibly rewarding.

Favorite things about Oregon (school and state)?
I love Oregon’s focus on student-athlete well-being, the athletic facilities, and the natural beauty of the state.

Sarah Hart (Brighton → Tiffin)

Hart played at Brighton and in her Junior year at Tiffin. Hart has started 12 games this season in goal for the Dragons, registering 77 saves.

When did you first realize that playing college lacrosse was a real possibility for you?
I didn’t think I’d ever play college lacrosse when I first started. I began playing as a sophomore at Brighton and became a goalie. Joining club teams and creating an IWLCA recruiting profile helped. When a college emailed me during my senior year showing interest, I realized playing at the next level was possible.

What’s the biggest adjustment you had to make when you arrived on campus—on the field or off?
Being away from home was the hardest adjustment. My coaches and teammates helped me through it, and over time, my team became my second family.

How do your teammates and coaches react when they find out you’re from Utah?
People are usually shocked and ask how I ended up in Tiffin. I love getting to talk about my hometown and Utah.

What advice would you give a Utah high school player who wants to play at the next level?
Create recruiting profiles early, reach out to schools before tournaments, and keep your grades up. Missing NCAA requirements can delay or prevent playing.

Favorite things about Tiffin/Ohio?
I love the small-school atmosphere, local restaurants, small class sizes, and professors with real-world experience.

Hunter Keller (Davis → Lewis)

Keller played for Davis, earning All-American honors in 2024 and First Team All-Region recognition from 2020–2024. Keller is the state record holder for saves in a season (374) and in a single game (39). Keller is in his Sophomore season at Lewis in Illinois and has 11 saves on the season.

When did you first realize that playing college lacrosse was a real possibility for you?
I always wanted to play in college, but it became a reality in 9th grade when I truly found my passion for lacrosse.

What’s the biggest adjustment you had to make when you arrived on campus—on the field or off?
Balancing academics and athletics was the biggest challenge. The game speed was also an adjustment, especially as a goalie learning to control the clear, direct the defense, and manage the game.

How do your teammates and coaches react when they find out you’re from Utah?
I was the first player from Utah at Lewis, which surprised a lot of people. Once they saw my ability, it changed perceptions of Utah lacrosse.

What advice would you give a Utah high school player who wants to play at the next level?
Explore your options, especially out of state. It’s uncomfortable at first, but the growth and experiences are worth it.

Favorite things about Lewis/Illinois?
The people. Everyone is welcoming, respectful, and supportive.

Ava Kimche (Park City → Columbia)

Kimche attended Park City, earning US Lacrosse All-American honors in 2022 and 2023, as well as Adrenaline All-American and Utah Ms. Lacrosse recognition. A two-year varsity captain, state champion (2021, 2023), and four-year varsity basketball starter, she was also a US Lacrosse All-Academic selection, National Honor Society member, AP Scholar with Distinction, and High Honor Roll student. Kimche is in her Junior year at Columbia and is the starting goalie for the Lions. She has 101 saves on the year.

When did you first realize that playing college lacrosse was a real possibility for you?
Growing up, I had an older sister who went through the recruiting process for lacrosse. She was four years older than me, so it was always in the back of my mind as a possibility. Growing up in Park City, there was also a large lacrosse community, and I knew multiple people older than me who played college lacrosse.

I always knew I wanted to play a sport in college, but I was on the fence between basketball and lacrosse. I didn’t fully decide that lacrosse was the sport I wanted to pursue until the summer going into my sophomore year of high school, so it was a little last-minute when I decided I was all in on the opportunity to play college lacrosse.

What’s the biggest adjustment you had to make when you arrived on campus—on the field or off?
The two biggest adjustments for me were learning how to manage my time better and dedicating all my time to a single sport. Academically, going to an Ivy League institution was very different from my high school experience, and I had to change a lot of my habits to balance lacrosse and school.

Mentally, it was hard to focus on just lacrosse because I had always played multiple sports. If one sport wasn’t going well, I could shift my focus to another. Having to fully commit to one sport was challenging but very rewarding, as it helped me grow closer to my teammates and face the challenges of the sport head-on.

How do your teammates and coaches react when they find out you’re from Utah?
Lacrosse in Utah continues to grow, and it’s becoming more common for girls to play in college. When I arrived, my teammates thought it was interesting, but it’s definitely less uncommon than it used to be. We now have players from all over the country, which has made it feel very normal.

What advice would you give a Utah high school player who wants to play at the next level?
College lacrosse is a big commitment, but if you love the sport, you should absolutely pursue it. I would also recommend not focusing solely on lacrosse in high school—college coaches look for well-rounded athletes on and off the field. It’s also important to understand the different levels of college lacrosse and to avoid comparing your journey to others. Your right fit may look very different.

Favorite things about Columbia/New York?
My favorite things about Columbia are the location and the diverse group of people on campus. I’ve had the opportunity to learn from people with so many different backgrounds, and New York City always has something exciting to offer.

Allie Reading (Corner Canyon → UMass Lowell)

Reading attended Corner Canyon, serving as team captain her senior year. She earned First Team All-Region Defense and Deseret News First Team All-State Defense honors in back-to-back seasons, was a two-time US Lacrosse High School All-American and All-Academic All-American, and a member of the National Honor Society. Reading is in her Junior year at UMass Lowell and has started in 11 games for the River Hawks this year, causing 10 turnovers.

When did you first realize that playing college lacrosse was a real possibility for you?
I started to see college lacrosse as a real possibility when I began having conversations with college coaches and realized they were genuinely interested in me. Competing on a national travel team alongside players from across the country also opened my eyes. I could see that I was capable of playing at that level.

What’s the biggest adjustment you had to make when you arrived on campus—on the field or off?
The biggest adjustment was on the field. I had to adapt quickly to the speed and skill level of East Coast lacrosse. The game is much faster, especially defensively, and it pushed me to elevate my play.

How do your teammates and coaches react when they find out you’re from Utah?
They’re usually surprised. Many of them have never been to Utah or even the West Coast, so they’re curious about my background and what it was like moving so far from home.

What advice would you give a Utah high school player who wants to play at the next level?
Keep putting yourself out there. Even when it feels like no one is paying attention, coaches are watching. Stay persistent, continue reaching out, and be clear about what you want academically and athletically so you can find the best fit.

Favorite things about UMass Lowell/Massachusetts?
My favorite part has been the friendships I’ve built through lacrosse and my academic program. I’ve also loved exploring downtown Lowell and experiencing the diverse food scene—it’s something you don’t see back home in Utah.

Eva Thorn (Olympus → High Point)

Thorn played high school lacrosse for Olympus and was a State Champion in 2022 and State Runner-Up in 2023, earning three-time First Team All-State and three-time All-Region honors. A two-time All-American, Adrenaline All-American (2023), Under Armour All-American All-Tournament Team selection, and 5A Player of the Year (2023), she served as a two-time team captain for the Titans. Thorn is in her Junior year at High Point where she’s played in 9 games, scoring 6 goals and 3 assists.

When did you first realize that playing college lacrosse was a real possibility for you?
I realized it when I was in eighth grade going into ninth grade during COVID. While doing Zoom practices, I started watching college lacrosse and was amazed by the level of play. I knew I wanted to get there one day.

Trying out for Utah Lynx and meeting Will Manny and Adam Ghitelman helped a lot—they believed in me and helped me reach my goal of playing Division I lacrosse. Above all, my mom’s support made it possible. She always told me to shoot for the stars and believe in myself.

What’s the biggest adjustment you had to make when you arrived on campus—on the field or off?
The pace and level of play were the biggest adjustments. The ball moves faster, players are quicker, and everything happens at a higher speed. Off the field, learning time management between academics and athletics was also a big challenge.

How do your teammates and coaches react when they find out you’re from Utah?
They’re always surprised and curious about what Utah is like. I love talking about the outdoor lifestyle, Utah Lynx, and giving back to the community that helped me get here.

What advice would you give a Utah high school player who wants to play at the next level?
The club team you play for matters—coaching, connections, and competition are huge for recruiting. Work hard, especially on what you’re not good at. Everyone’s journey looks different, especially coming from Utah, so always believe in yourself.

Favorite things about High Point/North Carolina?
I love the weather and my teammates. They’re some of the funniest and kindest people I’ve ever met, and I’m grateful for friendships I’ll have for life.

Tracen Wagner (Clearfield → Thomas)

Wagner played locally at Clearfield before heading to Maine to attend Thomas College. Wagner is a Sophomore and has played in 25 career games for the Terriers.

When did you first realize that playing college lacrosse was a real possibility for you?
I realized it my Junior year of high school after several coaches reached out during recruiting.

What’s the biggest adjustment you had to make when you arrived on campus—on the field or off?
Off the field, finding support while being far from home was important. On the field, adjusting to the pace and playing with a shot clock against faster, more athletic players was a big change.

How do your teammates and coaches react when they find out you’re from Utah?
They’re usually shocked, mostly because Utah is so far from Maine.

What advice would you give a Utah high school player who wants to play at the next level?
Be willing to learn and put in the work. Coaches want players who are dependable on and off the field.

Favorite things about Thomas College/Maine?
I love the close social atmosphere at Thomas College and the fall season in Maine.

April 14 - Herriman @ East

Goals For Average: East 13.5, Herriman 14.2
Goals Against Average: East 10.4, Herriman 8.4
RPI: East #10 in 5A, Herriman #13 in 6A
Common Opponents:
- vs Maple Mountain: East +11, Herriman +8
- vs Olympus: East -3, Herriman -12

Cody Elmen: In similar matchups, East has had stronger results. I really like East’s offense and how quickly they can score and go on runs. I’m going with the Leopards.

Tim Haslam: I’m going to pick the Mustangs simply because they are scoring more goals and allowing less goals per game.

Ron Hill: These two are close that is for sure, I am going with the Mustangs in a tight game

Libby Mitchell: The Mustangs and Leopards are currently among the most evenly matched teams in the state. I think this is going to be a high-scoring game for both teams, and that Herriman will narrowly take it.

Dane Stewart: I really want to go East here, but I’ll take Herriman in a close one

Austin Whiting: I think East’s offense will prove too much. I’ll guess 13-12 East.

CE: Utah High School Lacrosse is better when Alta is good. It’s great to see them back among the elite teams. That said, it’s going to be close, but I think Brighton wins this one.

TH: I can confidently say this will likely be a one-goal game… but who wins? My first thought is to pick Alta because they played games more recently. But does that mean Brighton will have fresher legs? Normally I’d give an advantage to the home team, but Brighton has dropped its last two at home (Farmington, Park City). I think the rest will pay off for Brighton so I’m picking the Bengals.

RH: I think the layoff is going to be tough for Brighton, but I still think they pull out a close one.

LM: These are some old-school rivals, and that could get Alta pumped, but I don’t think they will be a match for Brighton.

DS: Two offenses with depth and versatility. If Brighton is healthy, I’ll side with the home Bengals

AW: Brighton’s been slightly more impressive in similar games. I’ll say the Bengals 12-11.

April 15 - Mountain Crest @ Bear River

Goals For Average: Mountain Crest 13.1, Bear River 14.8
Goals Against Average: Mountain Crest 4.4, Bear River 6.3
RPI: Mountain Crest #7 in 4A, Bear River #4 in 4A
Common Opponents:
- vs Canyon View: Bear River +12, Mountain Crest +13

CE: Mountain Crest has had a brutal schedule leading up to this one, and it doesn’t get easier after. Bear River is coming into this one hot, and I think they continue that momentum with a win here.

TH: Can the Mountain Crest defense shut down the Bears offense? I think they can. I’m picking the Mustangs in this one.

RH: It is hard to get a win at Bear River for any team. The Bears in a tight game.

LM: This is another really balanced match, right down to the scoring averages of Preston Wilkinson (Bears) and Davis Cooper (Mustangs). But Bear River is playing more consistently, so I think they take it.

DS: Bears eat beats…don’t know what that has to do with lacrosse, but I’ll take Bear River

AW: I like Bear River here. I’ll say 13-10.

April 16 - Weber @ Davis

CE: This should be a fun one. Both teams are really evenly matched, and every game in that region feels like a bitter rivalry. I think Weber’s offense is too good right now, so I’m picking the Warriors.

TH: Two pretty evenly matched teams. I think Quinn Costello is going to be too much for the Darts. Weber wins.

RH: Weber is on a nice run, I think they keep the momentum and get the win.

LM: This is my favorite match-up of the week. These teams are both so good and have such different styles. But I think Davis will take this one in a two-goal victory.

DS: I’ll take the Warriors here.

AW: I’m going to pick the Darts, 11-10.

April 17 - Skyline @ Olympus

CE: One of the underrated rivalries in Utah. Both teams’ records don’t reflect how good they are, as both have played really tough competition. I’m picking the Titans in this one, but it’s close.

TH: Skyline is scoring more goals, but giving up more goals. I think Oly digs deep for the win.

RH: Olympus has been real quiet, and I think they are getting ready to explode back on the scene. The Titans in a convincing win.

LM: Olympus is fighting for a win and I say they get it.

DS: I gotta believe Olympus will get on track. I’ll take the Titans

AW: I’ll take Olympus in this one. 14-11.

April 17 - Viewmont @ Bountiful

Goals For Average: Viewmont 6.7, Bountiful 7.9

CE: I think Bountiful is a good example of why RPI is good, but not perfect. They are much better than than 24th team in 5A. I’m going with the Redhawks here.

LM: Great game between Davis County rivals. I’m going with Bountiful.

Mens

The playoff races became a little bit clearer after the weekend action. Let’s see where we stand.

In the NCAA, Utah beat Jacksonville in a great game where the Utes secured the 9-8 win. The Dolphins jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first quarter. Jacksonville Goalie Ryan Della Rocco was on fire, making save after save. Utah scored three in a row midway through the second quarter to pull within one. Both teams would score one more goal in the quarter to make the score 5-4 at halftime in favor of the Dolphins. Jacksonville opened the scoring in the second half at the 5:49 mark in the quarter. Will Overly would answer for the Utes but Jacksonville pulled it back on its next possession. The Utes dominated the fourth quarter with Luke McNamara getting a goal, then Nathan Chalmers had two goals to give the Utes their first lead with 4:12 left in the game. Kyle Harrison added an insurance goal at 3:13 on a fast break which was his first career goal as a Ute. The Dolphins scored with 7 seconds left then had another attempt that was saved by Utah Goalie Colin Lenskold to end the game. Chalmers had 3 goals to lead the Utes. The win clinched a spot in the ASUN playoffs which will be played on May 1 and May 3 in Jacksonville.

Westminster needed to win by two or more goals against Colorado Mesa on Thursday in order to host the RMAC Championships and they did just that. It was another great game between these two rivals. The game was tied at 13 with 1:27 left in the game. The Mavericks had just scored but Westminster won the next faceoff. After a minute of possession, Cam Conti scored to give the Griffins the lead. Ashton Karch won the faceoff for Westminster then took it down the field. The Griffins attacked quickly as Luke Sillstrop found Theo Le for the goal with 15 seconds left. The Griffins won the next faceoff and iced the game. Ridge Crouch led the Griffins with 3 goals and 3 assists. Theo finished with 2 goals and 2 assists. Karch went 16-23 from the faceoff X. The RMAC playoffs will be on April 24 and 26.

In the MCLA D-I, No. 1 UVU and No. 2 BYU headed to Colorado to take on Colorado and Colorado State. Both Utah teams came home with wins. It’s the first time UVU has beaten the Colorado schools in the regular season in Colorado. On Thursday, UVU beat Colorado State, 20-9 while BYU beat Colorado, 12-11. On Friday, UVU beat Colorado, 15-7. BYU defeated Colorado State on Saturday, 20-9. With some assumptions, UVU and BYU should be the No. 1 and No. 2 seed respectively in the RMLC D-I playoffs that begin on April 24 at Zions Bank Stadium.

With Utah State beating Southern Utah on Sunday, the Aggies should be the No. 2 seed from the Northwest division in the RMLC D-II and will take on No. 1 seed from the Southwest, Air Force Club. The RMLC D-II playoffs are also at Zions Bank Stadium on April 24.

Womens

It was a great weekend to be a Ute! The University of Utah women’s team took home the championship at the RMWLL Playoffs on Saturday, narrowly defeating rival BYU 9-8. Ask any of the fans, Olivia Lowe was the star of the game, keeping the net safe and helping the team keep BYU at bay. They now head to Naples, Florida, for the WCLA National Tournament on May 11-16th.

While BYU didn’t take home the top spot, they did have a few bright spots, including taking down Utah County rival UVU in an earlier round, 21-9.

It was a hard week for Westminster as the team suffered two losses while on the road. First, they fell to Regis University on Friday, 16-5, and then suffered defeat at the hands of UC Colorado Springs on Sunday, 20-9. The Griffins now head back to Dumke Field for the last two games of the season.

Boys’ Week 6 Coaches Poll

Despite several teams being on Spring Break, there was still plenty of action on the field.

No. 1 Park City (9-2): The Miners beat West Field, 13-2, on Wednesday, then beat Santa Margarita, 9-8, on Friday at Westminster. Henry Alnwick had 3 goals and 2 assists. Thomas Fannon had 3 goals and 1 assist. Benjamin Gibbs and Matix Black had 4 takeaways. The Miners are in action again on April 22 against West Jordan then face a gauntlet against No. 4 Farmington (4/24), No. 5 Olympus (4/28), No. 7 Judge Memorial (5/1) and No. 3 Corner Canyon (5/6). The Judge game will likely decide who wins the Region 4 title.

No. 2 Brighton (5-2): The Bengals remained idle during the break, holding steady at the second spot. The Bengals open region play this week and will face No. 6 Alta on Wednesday, then Woods Cross on Friday.

No. 3 Corner Canyon (7-2): After a quiet break, the Chargers remain at number three with one first-place vote in their pocket. The Chargers will head to Salt Lake City to take on No. 7 Judge Memorial on Tuesday in the lone game for the week. Corner Canyon will open region play next week against American Fork and Lone Peak.

No. 4 Farmington (7-1): The Phoenix beat Riverton on Tuesday, 12-7, then opened region play with a 11-9 win over Weber (see recap below). Kai Beynon, Josh Vashaw and Cole Smith had 3 goals each against Riverton. Hudson Anderson had 5 takeaways. The Hoskins/Barrus goalie duo combined for 15 saves. Farmington will head to Davis on Tuesday. The Phoenix finish the week against Syracuse.

No. 5 Olympus (6-3): Moving up one spot, the Titans enter the post-break stretch on the heels of a strong performance against East. Region play begins for the Titans this week with games at Woods Cross and Skyline. The Titans will then take on No. 10 Bountiful, No. 1 Park City, Viewmont, No. 6 Alta and No. 2 Brighton before the season ends.

No. 6 Alta (8-2): The Hawks headed to Maryland for the break and came away with two victories. On Wednesday, the Hawks beat Manchester Valley, 10-8, then beat Hereford, 10-7, on Friday. The team also caught up with alumni Berkley Horoba at Towson who showed the team around, visited USA Lacrosse Headquarters (a cool experience if you can get there!), went to Washington D.C. and the Maryland v. Rutgers game on Saturday. Looked like a blast! No rest for the Hawks though as they head to No. 2 Brighton on Wednesday and host East on Friday.

No. 7 Judge Memorial (5-4): The Bulldogs had Spring Break and will used the rest to prepare for No. 3 Corner Canyon on Tuesday. On Friday, the Bulldogs will head to Colorado to take on Grand Junction.

No. 8 Skyridge (11-1): The Falcons are coming off Spring Break and will take on American Fork on Thursday to open region play.

No. 9 Juan Diego (8-2): The Soaring Eagle enjoyed a successful spring break in California, picking up quality wins over Poway and St. Augustine. Juan Diego will head to Sky View on Friday.

No. 10 Bountiful (8-1): The Redhawks beat Davis on Friday, 19-4, with strong play from Carter Terry who had 4 goals and 7 assists. Theo Holt had 6 goals and 1 assist.

Teams who are on the outside of the Top 10 include Timpview, Mountain Ridge and Wasatch. There are some great 4A battles this week starting today with Ridgeline @ Waterford, Sky View @ Bear River and Green Canyon @ Mountain Crest. Snow Canyon @ Dixie on Wednesday could decide Region 9. Dixie also comes north to take on Hillcrest and Bonneville on Saturday. Westlake heads to Bingham on Thursday in a battle of 7-2 teams.

Boys Spotlight Game of the Week by Hill and Hill Photography

Week 6 – Weber vs Farmington

The Weber Warriors opened its Region 1 schedule against the veteran Farmington Phoenix on Thursday. Despite being a young squad facing a high-ranked opponent, the Warriors showed significant resilience in a hard-fought 11-9 loss.

Farmington asserted dominance early, with Josh Vashaw, Kai Beynon, and Carson Egan quickly building a 3-0 lead. While Weber struggled to find their rhythm against Farmington’s goalie, Brandon Barrus, freshman Kaleb Romero finally broke through with a breakaway goal late in the first quarter.

The second quarter saw Kage Panter cut the lead to 4-2, but the Phoenix responded decisively. Four consecutive goals—including a hat trick from Cole Smith—helped Farmington secure a commanding 8-2 lead by halftime.

Weber refused to back down in the second half. Tightening their defense with strong work from goalie Rhett Hancock, the Warriors outscored the Phoenix 3-1 in the third quarter with goals from Panter, Jake Greenhalgh, and Isaac Jackson.

The momentum carried into the fourth, where Panter’s fourth goal of the afternoon brought Weber within a single point of a tie. However, Farmington proved why they are a top-tier program; they bent but didn’t break. Late goals from Vashaw and Brock Milne halted the comeback and allowed the Phoenix to escape with the win.

Girls’ Week 6 Coaches Poll

While the top of the rankings remained a fortress this week, the major story revolves around dominant “statement” victories and the return of a familiar powerhouse to the Top 10. With several undefeated streaks on the line and regional play heating up, the path to the state championship is becoming clearer for the elite few.

No. 1 Park City (9-2): The Miners maintained its top ranking with 12 first-place votes following a strong bounce-back victory over Mountain Ridge. They are off this week but are preparing for a massive upcoming slate featuring Lone Peak and the undefeated Riverton.

No. 2 Riverton (9-0): The Silverwolves made a powerful statement this week with a convincing win over previously undefeated West Jordan to remain perfect on the season. This roster is packed with talent and looks fully prepared to dominate the 6A tournament bracket.

No. 3 Skyridge (9-1): Holding steady at number three, the Falcons enjoyed a spring break hiatus to recharge for the final stretch of the season. They return to the field this week for key region matchups against Lehi and a highly anticipated rematch with American Fork.

No. 4 Mountain Ridge (7-3): Despite a tough loss to top-ranked Park City, the Sentinels hold their position as coaches recognize their willingness to play the state’s hardest schedule. They now move into a series of local battles in the southwest valley against Copper Hills and Herriman.

No. 5 Bear River (9-0): The Bears continue their perfect run with another convincing win, this time over Green Canyon, keeping them firmly in the title conversation. They remain a 4A favorite as they look toward their next regional test against Mountain Crest.

No. 6 West Jordan (9-1): The Jaguars suffered their first loss of the season at the hands of Riverton, but they only remained at the sixth spot due to the high level of respect from the coaches. They will look to get back on track this week with games against Alta and Salem Hills.

No. 7 Fremont (8-2): The Silverwolves are one of the hottest teams in the state, jumping up one spot after a dominant post-break win over Northridge. Coaches are warning the rest of the 5A classification to watch out for this team as they prepare for Clearfield and West Field.

No. 8 Farmington (6-3): Dropping one spot in a switch with Fremont, the Phoenix are entering a brutal stretch of their schedule to prepare for their title defense. They face a much-improved Syracuse team and a traditional rival in Davis this coming week.

No. 9 Brighton (6-1): After a brief hiatus from the rankings, the Bengals have bounced back into the Top 10 based on the overall strength of their early-season resume. They return to Region 5 action this week with critical games against Alta and Woods Cross.

No. 10 Provo (9-1): The Bulldogs continue to be the “sleeper” of the 4A classification, moving up one spot as they take total control of their region. They are taking their high-scoring offense on the road to Southern Utah this week for matchups against Hurricane and Cedar City.

The “bubble” is as crowded as ever, with Lone Peak being the most notable exclusion despite receiving a first-place vote from the coaches. Other teams narrowly missing the cut include Davis and Salem Hills, both of whom remain in striking distance. The central theme of the week was the separation of the “elites,” as Park City and Riverton both secured definitive wins against Top 10 opponents to solidify their status at the summit.

Week 6 - Riverton vs West Jordan

The ranks of the undefeated are thinning. Following a high-stakes showdown this past Friday, only Bear River and the Riverton Silverwolves remain unblemished in Utah lacrosse. Riverton secured its spot by handing the West Jordan Jaguars their first loss of the 2026 season in a 15-6 victory.

West Jordan initially caught the Silverwolves off guard. Although Riverton’s Maggie Bird opened the scoring, the Jaguars responded with a four-goal surge led by Jordyn Hughes, Betty Smith, and Lily Henderson. A late goal by Paisley Young kept Riverton within reach, ending the first quarter trailing 4-2.

Following sideline adjustments, Riverton took command. Goalie Ella Snow and the defense stifled the Jaguars, holding them to a single goal in the second quarter. Meanwhile, the Silverwolves’ offense erupted; Suli Tafisi sparked a five-goal rally with a successful free-position shot, followed by points from Bird, Davenport, and the Young sisters to take a 7-5 halftime lead.

The Silverwolves never looked back. Paisley and Marlei Young extended the lead quickly in the third, followed by a goal from Avery Johnson. While Henderson managed one final goal for the Jaguars, Riverton’s defense shut them out entirely in the fourth quarter. Insurance goals from Cara Erramouspe, Mya Christian, Tafisi, Davenport, and Bird punctuated the dominant performance.

West Jordan will look to rebound against Alta, while Riverton puts its undefeated streak on the line against Westlake.

PLL Draft on Tuesday

The Utah Arrowhead is hosting a PLL College Draft party on Tuesday at Legends Pub & Grill Downtown. All ages are welcome. The event starts at 4:45pm with the official draft starting at 5pm. The Utah Archers currently have the No. 1 pick.

The PLL/Lacrosse Network also published a mock draft which had Utah Attackman Ryan Stines going No. 20 to Boston and Utah LSM Nikko DiPonio going No. 32 to the Atlas.

Also this week, Mike Carcone of the Utah Mammoth was seen repping a Brett Dobson Archers jersey on his way to the locker room. Love to see it!

The Utah Lacrosse Hall of Fame exists to recognize, honor, and preserve the individuals, both male and female, and teams who have made significant and lasting contributions to the growth, success, and legacy of lacrosse in the state of Utah. Through induction, historical documentation, and public recognition, the Hall of Fame celebrates excellence, leadership, service, and sportsmanship while inspiring future generations to contribute meaningfully to the game.

Nominees and recipients will come from one of the following categories. It is possible for a person to become a Hall of Fame member in multiple categories.

Nominees must have made a significant impact on lacrosse in the state of Utah. Contributions may occur at the youth, high school, collegiate, club, professional or community level. Nominees are not required to be Utah natives but must have contributed meaningfully within the state. Nominees must demonstrate conduct consistent with the values of integrity, sportsmanship, and service to the game.

Nominations will be accepted using this form. Please note that the nominations submitted through this form will be confidential and will establish a list of potential nominees. Please use correct contact information for all parties in the event the selection committee needs to follow up and get more information.

Nominations will be collected from today until June 30, 2026 for this year’s ceremony. The ceremony will occur in the Fall.

The final criteria for induction is being established by the committee and will be announced at a later date.

The Utah Lacrosse Hall of Fame was originally a function of the Utah Lacrosse Association which served as a USA Lacrosse Chapter in Utah until 2018 when USA Lacrosse moved away from regional chapters.

The Hall currently has four members: Mason Goodhand (2006), Soni Bartlett (2007), David Allen (2007) and Michael O’Malley (2009).

April 9 - Westminster @ Colorado Mesa (Men’s)

Cody Elmen: In this matchup, the away team wins more often than not which is good news for Westminster. I’ll take the Griffins.

Tim Haslam: These two teams met just a few weeks ago with Colorado Mesa winning in overtime. I think this one will be close again, but the Griffins will come out on top.

Ron Hill: It’s always hard to go against the homegrown team, but I think Colorado Mesa in a 2-3 point win.

Libby Mitchell: Westminster beat the women’s team, I say the men follow suit.

Dane Stewart: Last year these two teams split, with the road teams winning each. This year, I’ll roll on repeat. I’ll take Westminster to get revenge for their earlier loss.

Austin Whiting: Westminster’s been on a roll and I’ll pick them to keep it going and get their revenge. I’ll say 11-10 for the Griffins.

April 10 - Westminster @ Regis (Women’s)

CE: I hate to pick against the hometown team, but Regis has been on fire since losing to Westminster last month, including a win against Colorado Mesa who just recently beat the Griffins. I’d love to be wrong, but I have Regis winning this one.

TH: Westminster has won only once out of 17 tries against Regis, but it was the last game just a few weeks ago. Can the Griffins repeat in Colorado? I’d love to say yes, but I think Regis gets them in this one.

RH: Regis, too strong at home.

LM: While Westminster beat Regis earlier in the season, I don’t see them doing it again.

DS: I’ll go Regis in this one.

AW: I’m going to pick Westminster twice this week, let’s hope for men’s and women’s dubs. I’ll take the Griffins 11-10 as well.

April 8 - Viewmont @ Copper Hills

CE: I love what Coach Trae Smith is doing in his first year at Copper Hills. They’ve played some tough competition, but they’ve been competitive in those games. I think Gage Holder and Zayne Larsen will lead the new-look Grizzlies to a win.

TH: I’m going to go with Viewmont in this one. If the Vikings can get going early it will pay dividends.

RH: Viewmont has some scorers that is for sure, but I think Copper Hills will bring a more physical game, Grizzlies in this one.

LM: Copper Hills. The have the upper hand and better strategy on the field.

DS: Holder and Larsen too much in this one, I’ll take Copper Hills here

AW: I like Copper Hills in this one. I’m taking the Grizzlies 10-7.

April 9 - Sky View @ Wasatch

CE: I’m excited for the face-off match-up in this one. Both teams’ specialists are above 80% on the year. Sky View is very young and talented, but I think Wasatch’s experience will carry them to a win.

TH: I’m going to pick Wasatch in this one, but don’t be surprised if Sky View gives them trouble.

RH: Sky View is always tough, but the trip to Heber is going to be a tough hill to climb against a strong Wasatch squad, Wasatch.

LM: I’m going to go with Wasatch.

DS: I’ll take Wasatch in this one.

AW: Wasatch has looked impressive this year, potential deep 5A run? I’ll take the Wasps 13-7.

Girls

April 9 - Farmington @ Weber

CE: What a great game to kick off the region schedule for both teams. It’s a close one, but I’m going with Farmington. Their out of region schedule was a bit tougher, and the Phoenix played well against tough teams.

TH: This one belongs to Farmington who will comfortably take home the region win.

RH: Got to go with the Phoenix, tougher schedule has prepared them for a strong run.

LM: This is going to be a close one. Both teams have similar records going into it. I think Weber though.

DS: I’ll pick Moffat and the Phoenix to win this one.

AW: I’m with Cody here, I think a tougher schedule prior to this game will give Farmington the edge. I’ll say 12-11.

April 10 - Riverton @ West Jordan

CE: This will be fun. Both teams come into the game undefeated and evenly matched. I like how deep Riverton is where you can’t key in on one option as everyone is a strong scorer. I’ll take the Silverwolves.

TH: Both teams have played really well leading into this one so it should be a great game. I think the edge goes to the Riverton defense who is holding teams to 4.1 goals per game. That will be the difference. Riverton wins.

RH: This is a big one, they are both playing great. I am going to go with Riverton on this one, I think they have a bit more experience in the big games.

LM: Riverton will continue their winning streak, and West Jordan will get their first loss of the season.

DS: I’ll go with Riverton in this battle between undefeateds.

AW: Such an exciting game. I gotta give it to the Riverwolves here with how impressive they have looked. 17-16.

Mens

Action got underway last week with Westminster taking down Concordia-Irvine, 11-9. CUI jumped out to an early 3-0 lead and led 6-1 in the second quarter but the Griffins kept grinding away to make the score 6-4 at halftime in favor of CUI. It was all Westminster in the second half as they outscored CUI 7-3 en route to the win. Eight Griffins scored at least one goal with Luke Sillstrop scoring 3.

Friday night had the attention of the entire MCLA as No. 1 UVU hosted No. 2 BYU at Skyridge High School. The air was chilly but the crowd was on fire. It was a great battle between rivals. The first quarter saw end-to-end action with BYU taking the 6-5 lead. UVU scored on its first possession of the game when Jacob Lundin won the faceoff, then went to X and dodged, getting around his man and finding the back of the net. Cam Rossi scored next for the Wolverines, then BYU answered with three straight goals. The run started with Dallin Johnson from the wing, Easton Carter on a manup play and Mason Quick from the left wing. UVU scored the next two goals when Boo Rehrer found himself open in front of the goal on a fast break led by Jack Baird. Baird then scored one himself after a takeaway on the defensive end and going coast-to-coast. Cade Kirschner and Hutton Murphy pulled two back for BYU then Ashton Wood scored for UVU followed by a buzzer-beater by Kirschner with a dunk on the crease.

The second quarter was all UVU. The Wolverines came out of the break and scored the next three with goals by Rehrer, Gage Ruldolph and Rossi. Kirschner scored on a manup opportunity for BYU but then the Wolverines answered with goals by Rehrer and Tyson Mauri, making the score 10-7 at halftime.

It wouldn’t get any closer as both teams scored two goals in the third quarter (Blake Yates, Rossi for UVU. Gavin Taylor, Johnson for BYU) then UVU scored 5 to BYU’s 2 in the fourth to win, 17-11. Boo Rahrer led the Wolverines with 4 goals and 2 assists. Cam Oswald had 4 assists while Cam Rossi had 3 goals and 1 assist. UVU Goalie Patrick Thomas had 18 saves. Jacob Lundin was 70% from the faceoff X for UVU. Jack Baird led the UVU defense with 4 caused turnovers and a goal and assist.

Both teams should make the RMLC playoffs and will likely square off again. The RMLC playoffs will be at Zions Bank Stadium on April 24th and 25th.

On Saturday, Utah beat Mercer, 24-14. Utah gave up the first goal of the game but never looked back after that. Ryan Stines had 6 goals. Zach White had 2 goals and 3 assists. Luke McNamara had 4 goals and 1 assist. Fourteen Utes had at least one point. Utah native Dillon Bush had 2 goals for Mercer.

Westminster routed Dominican, 31-2. Twenty-one Griffins had at least one point and 9 had three or more.

Utah Tech hosted Colorado, Colorado State and the Utah Club team this weekend. It was a tough weekend for the Utah squads as they both lost to Colorado and Colorado State.

From top to bottom, every game this week will have conference playoff implications.

Action will begin on Thursday with No. 1 UVU and No. 2 BYU heading to take on Colorado and Colorado State. UVU will face CSU on Thursday and Colorado on Friday. BYU will play Colorado on Thursday and CSU on Saturday. It won’t be set in stone since there are a few RMLC games left after this weekend, but these games will likely decide the 1-4 spots in the RMLC tournament. The crazy stat of the day is that UVU has never beaten both Colorado schools in Colorado in the regular season.

Westminster heads to Colorado Mesa on Thursday in an effort to claim at least a share of the top spot in the RMAC. The Griffins lost to CMU on March 26, 13-12, in overtime. For the Griffins to claim the regular-season championship, which grants them the opportunity to host the RMAC playoffs, they will need to win by 2 goals since the tiebreaker is goal differential in head-to-head games. Of course, the Griffins would also need to beat Adams State and Northwest Nazarene.

Also on Friday, Utah State will take on the Air Force Club team. The Aggies will also play the College of Idaho on Saturday and Southern Utah on Sunday. The RMLC D-II playoffs take the top 2 teams from each division, which means the Utah State v. SUU game could decide who makes it into the playoffs.

On Saturday, Utah heads to Jacksonville in a showdown between the two favorites in the ASUN. Utah leads the series, 6-1, including two wins over two Top 10 ranked Jacksonville squads and an ASUN championship game.

Womens

Westminster faced Colorado Mesa on Friday and kept pace early in a tight first half, heading into the locker room down 7-4 thanks to key scores from Jordan Williamson and Lexi Segaline. However, they struggled to bridge the gap in the second half as Colorado Mesa capitalized on man-up opportunities to pull away with a series of scoring runs. Despite a valiant four-goal performance by Williamson and 10 saves from Sienna Garcia, the Griffins were unable to stop the Mavericks’ momentum in an 18-6 defeat.

BYU was also in Colorado this week, and narrowly defeated CU 10-9. Tessa Frey and Olivia Cannon led the team with 3 points each, and goalie Anna Kriepl had a good game with an almost 50% save rate. They took another win against Colorado State 19-2, and now head home feeling victorious.

Utah Valley welcomed Southern Utah to Orem, but that’s where the friendliness ended. UVU won the match handily, 16-4.

This week, Utah will host the RMWLL playoffs on Friday and Saturday.

Westminster will head to Colorado to take on Regis and UCCS.

High School

The RPIs were released on Thursday and you can find them here. 6A looks pretty spot on. 5A is going to be a battle this year as we progress towards the playoffs. If we started the playoffs today, and the bracket went ‘chalk’, we’d have Bountiful v. Wasatch, Park City v. Judge, Alta v. Timpview, Brighton v. Olympus. It’s possible a perennial 5A favorite doesn’t make it to the semis this year. The 4A RPI is based on the MaxPreps ratings, not the UHSAA formula. I’d say it’s pretty spot on as well. Remember, if you’re not pleased with where your team is, go win games and that will change.

Boys’ Week 5 Coaches Poll

No. 1 Park City beat East on Wednesday, 14-6, then beat No. 2 Brighton on Friday, 5-3. Henry Alnwick had 6 points against East. The Miners take on West Field on Wednesday and then host Santa Margarita, the team that just beat Judge, 18-2, on Friday.

No. 2 Brighton fell to No. 1 Park City on Friday, 5-3, which kept the voters’ confidence at No. 2. It was a true defensive effort. Bode Linford had two goals for Brighton and Zac Anderson had 1. The Bengals are off for the week and will face No. 7 Alta on 4/15.

No. 3 Corner Canyon appears to be the Corner Canyon we were expecting as it beat No. 6 Olympus (see recap below), 11-7, on Wednesday and beat No. 7 Alta on Friday, 14-13, in overtime. Ashton Brown had the game-winning goal in overtime for the Chargers. The Chargers are on Spring Break and will take on No. 5 Judge on 4/14.

No. 4 Farmington was off this week but will host Riverton on Tuesday and begin region play on Thursday against Weber.

No. 5 Judge Memorial had a great week off the field in Southern California but got beat on the field. On Friday, the Bulldogs lost to Los Alamitos, 11-7, then Santa Margarita, 18-2. The Bulldogs will take a week to recharge before taking on the No. 3 Chargers on 4/14.

No. 6 Olympus lost to No. 3 Corner Canyon, 11-7, on Wednesday then beat East, 10-7, on Friday. The Titans will have the week off before taking on region foe Woods Cross on 4/15.

No. 7 Alta lost to No. 3 Corner Canyon in overtime, 14-13, on Friday. The Hawks will head to Maryland to face Manchester Valley on Wednesday and Hereford on Friday.

No. 8 Skyridge has played 11 games and enters the week at 10-1 with the lone loss coming to No 6 Olympus. The Falcons beat Skyline, 19-3, on Tuesday then beat the Menlo School, 16-10 on Friday.

No. 9 Juan Diego beat Highland, 9-4, on Wednesday and will head to California to take on Poway on Tuesday and St. Augustine on Thursday.

No. 10 Bountiful had the week off for Spring Break and will take on Davis this week.

A couple of teams that are on the outside looking in are Green Canyon, Timpview and East. Green Canyon is 8-0 and will take on Bear River on Wednesday, then will host Santa Margarita on Saturday. That game should be telling but we may not know who the Wolves really are until May 8, when they take on Park City. Timpview is 10-1 with the lone loss being a one-goal loss to Mountain Ridge. Region play remains for the T-Birds. Can they come out unscathed? East is maybe the best 4-loss team in the state. Juan Diego, Bountiful, Park City and Olympus have gotten the best of the Leopards. A showdown on 4/17 at No. 7 Alta will be a great test.

Boys Spotlight Game of the Week by Hill and Hill Photography

Week 5 – Corner Canyon @ Olympus

In a highly anticipated cross-classification showdown, 6A powerhouse Corner Canyon visited 5A stalwart Olympus this past Wednesday. While both perennial programs are focused on securing their respective state titles in May, this lone 2026 meeting served as a vital mid-season barometer for two of Utah’s elite squads.

The game opened as a classic tactical battle. It took several minutes for both teams to settle their nerves and establish a rhythm. Corner Canyon’s Kampton Dutton broke the scoring barrier around the nine-minute mark, but the lead was short-lived. Olympus responded immediately with a laser from Xander Phillips that beat Chargers goalie Jack Rasmusson.

The seesaw battle continued as Ren Neilson briefly put the Chargers back on top, only for the Titans’ William Southwick to even the score once again. Just before the buzzer, Luke Fisher found the back of the net, giving Corner Canyon a narrow 3-2 lead heading into the break.

The second quarter saw the scoring pace slow as the physicality ramped up. Olympus seized control of the transition game, netting three goals to surge ahead. James Cannon sparked the run, followed 47 seconds later by Aston Brown, who turned a face-off scoop into a “make-it-take-it” score.

After Southwick added his second of the night to push the lead to 5-3, it seemed the Titans would carry a two-goal cushion into halftime. However, Corner Canyon’s Pierson DeGracie sliced through a stagnating defense to score with just 16 seconds remaining, cutting the Olympus lead to 5-4.

The third quarter was a mirror image of the second, this time dominated by the Chargers. Dutton secured his second goal, followed by impressive strikes from Luke Fisher and Ashton Brown, propelling Corner Canyon back into a two-goal lead. A buzzer-beater by the Titans’ Cannon at the end of the period kept things tense at 7-6.

The fourth quarter belonged to the man in the crease. Corner Canyon’s Jack Rasmusson essentially sealed his MVP status by scoring a spectacular coast-to-coast “Triple G” (Great Goalie Goal) to open the final frame. Between that highlight-reel score and his 13 saves on the night, Rasmusson anchored the Charger defense. Despite a late push from Cannon to bring the Titans within two, Cameron Clark shut the door with two late-quarter goals, securing an 11-7 victory for Corner Canyon.

Girls’ Week 5 Coaches Poll

The girls RPI can be found here. The top of the board remains a fortress, but the bottom half of the Top 10 is seeing a major reshuffle as new contenders emerge. While Park City continues its reign at the summit, the story of the week is the “undefeated battle” brewing in the middle and the arrival of a new face in the rankings.

No. 1 Park City - The Miners comfortably keep the top spot with 13 first-place votes after a tough California trip where they only lost to national powerhouses. They remain undefeated against Utah competition and are clearly the frontrunners to defend their state title.

No. 2 Riverton - Currently sitting at a perfect 8-0, the Silverwolves have maintained the number two spot for most of the season as coaches take notice of their dominance. A massive clash looms this Friday as they take on an equally undefeated West Jordan squad.

No. 3 Skyridge - The Falcons hold firm at number three, with only a few points separating them from the second spot as their defense begins to peak. They look to carry this momentum into their post-break schedule, starting with a key game against Lehi.

No. 4 Mountain Ridge - Navigating arguably the state’s most difficult schedule, the Sentinels remain a top-tier powerhouse prepared for the 6A gauntlet. They face a high-stakes rematch this week against Farmington that will likely shake up the middle of the rankings.

No. 5 Bear River - The Bears are proving to be a model of consistency, finishing the first half of their season undefeated despite playing up against higher-classification schools. Their focus now shifts to maintaining that perfection as they prepare for a notable matchup with Green Canyon.

No. 6 West Jordan - The Jaguars are the official “poll climbers” of the week, jumping two more spots to reach number six with a stellar 8-0 record. They have officially entered the conversation as a top-shelf contender as they prepare for their biggest test yet against Riverton.

No. 7 Farmington - Despite a slight one-spot dip, the Phoenix remain a constant threat that coaches believe can beat anyone in the Top 10 on a given night. They are eyeing a major statement win this week in a rivalry rematch against Mountain Ridge.

No. 8 Fremont - Focused on the fundamentals, the Silverwolves have seen marked improvement in their ground ball play as they prepare for a deep state tournament run. They aim to keep their steady climb going with upcoming games against Northridge and Clearfield.

No. 9 Salem Hills - The Skyhawks have made a triumphant return to the Top 10, earning two first-place votes as a sign of respect for their resilience and 7-2 record. They look to solidify their ranking in the coming week with a post-spring break game against Spanish Fork.

No. 10 Provo - Making their debut in the Top 10 this week, the Bulldogs have quietly put together a 9-2 record that proves they can compete with the state’s best. They are taking their “quiet but deadly” momentum on the road to St. George for a series of key games next week.

Week 5 - Desert Hills @ American Fork

Friday afternoon the American Fork Cavemen played host to the Desert Hills Thunder, who were capping off a two-day northern road trip. Despite the tired legs of a Thunder squad playing their second game in 48 hours, both teams delivered a high-energy battle that tested the depth of both rosters.

The Cavemen wasted no time, striking three times in the opening period to catch the Thunder off guard. Claire Corbridge sparked the offense with a quick-dodge drive at the 10:17 mark, followed shortly by her second goal of the day. A hard-fought strike by Hayley Roylance capped the quarter, giving American Fork a commanding 3-0 lead.

Desert Hills found their rhythm in the second quarter when Mady Erickson found the back of the net in the opening minute. However, American Fork’s Corbridge proved difficult to contain, answering with two more scores to bring her total to four on the day. A late-half goal by Aubriella Dollar sent the Cavemen into the locker room with a 6-1 cushion.

The second half was a game of punch-counterpunch. While Desert Hills matched American Fork score-for-score in the third, they couldn’t chip into the lead. Aubriella Dollar completed a hat trick for the Cavemen, while the Thunder’s Ellie Christian and Brooke McNeel kept Desert Hills within striking distance at 8-3.

In the final frame, American Fork’s Brooke Crandall and Brooke McNeel helped seal the result, but the Thunder refused to quit. Lilly Mortensen buried a clinical penalty shot, followed by late goals from Erickson and Christian. While the late surge showed the Thunder’s determination, American Fork’s early lead proved too much to overcome, resulting in a 10-6 home victory for the Cavemen.

Wasatch LC is one of Utah’s premier boys club lacrosse experiences — focused on developing players at every level, from athletes newer to the sport to players preparing for college lacrosse. Our training environment is high‑rep, high‑tempo, and built to help athletes grow their skills and confidence.

Led by directors who are National Champions from Westminster and a coaching staff made up entirely of former college lacrosse players, athletes receive position‑specific instruction, competitive reps, and the support needed to reach their goals. With 225 college commits to 100+ universities and colleges, Wasatch LC offers a true pathway for players who want to compete at the next level.

We are currently looking to add current high school juniors, sophomores, 2030s, 2033s, and 2034s to our summer teams — and we have limited roster spots available in these age groups. This is a great opportunity for players to train in a competitive, positive environment and join a program that understands the recruiting process and how to guide families through it.

March 28 - No. 3 South Carolina @ No. 1 Utah Valley (Men’s)
This game was all UVU, even through strong stretches from South Carolina. The Wolverines were up 10-2 at halftime then cruised to a 16-10 victory.

March 28 - Utah @ Colorado (Women’s)
Utah led for the first three quarters but then the Buffaloes came back and took the 12-10 win.

March 26 - Timpanogos @ Timpview (Boys)
This game came down to the wire and saw Timpview win, 12-11. Aiden Dutson had 5 goals and 1 assist for the T-Birds.

March 27 - Bingham @ Davis (Boys)
The Miners walked away with a 10-8 win after being tied at the end of the third quarter. Parker Young and Krew Smith each had 2 goals and 2 assists for Bingham. William Marsh had 4 goals for Davis.

April 3 - No. 1 UVU v. No. 2 BYU (Men’s)

This game is going to be a doozy! Both teams are firing on all cylinders and want to take the top spot in the RMLC. Let’s look at some stats:

Record: UVU (10-0), BYU (10-0)
Goals For: UVU 217, BYU 216
Goals Against: UVU 77, BYU 89
Faceoff Percentage: UVU 77.5%, BYU 60.2%

It’s very likely the MCLA Player of the Year comes from one of these teams and don’t be surprised to see UVU and BYU play again in the RMLC Championship game (April 25 at Zions Bank Stadium) and also in the MCLA National Tournament. Let’s look at some player stats:

Goals: Blake Yates 36 (UVU), Mason Quick 48 (BYU)
Assists: Tyson Mauri 23 (UVU), Easton Carter 23 (BYU)

Tim Haslam: I’m fortunate to be doing the play-by-play on this one so that I can be Switzerland because I don’t see a clear winner. Both teams are so evenly matched.

Ron Hill: I think I have to go with UVU, the energy with a win over the Cougs will be evident

Libby Mitchell: I like a little Utah County battle. I think the Wolverines take it, maybe in overtime.

Dane Stewart: I’ll lean BYU here. This one will be close, but the Coug’s offense is healthy and potent.

Austin Whiting: The game that everyone has been waiting for. As an alum and fan of both schools this is a really tough one. My gut is telling me that the Wolverines will take this in a close one, I’ll say 13-12.

April 4 - BYU @ Colorado State (Women’s)

CE: BYU wins this one. It’s been good to see the Utah teams doing well against the Colorado schools.

TH: The Cougars will easily handle the Rams with Whitney Holt leading the way.

RH: This one is BYU’s all the way.

LM: Colorado State has faced several Utah teams lately and has not done well. I think they will lose to BYU.

DS: Rise and Shout, the Cougars will rout.

AW: Gotta go with the Cougs here, 14-10.

Boys

April 1 - Corner Canyon @ Olympus

CE: I think Corner Canyon is all the way back after their earlier struggles. The Chargers win in a close, low-scoring game.

TH: My heart says Olympus but my head says Corner Canyon. I’m picking the Chargers in a close one.

RH: I am going with Corner Canyon, they have gotten better each game. They are ready for a run to the playoffs.

LM: I’m picking Olympus. They lost narrowly to Juan Diego, and Olympus won their match against the Soaring Eagle. I think they’ll win this one.

DS: Despite a couple losses, it’s still Corner. As Arnold once said, Go Chaw-gers.

AW: Insanely good matchup, I’m going to take Olympus in a tight one, 10-9.

April 3 - Park City @ Brighton

CE: Park City has to play East two days before this, while this is Brighton’s next game. Because of that, I’ll give the advantage to the Bengals.

TH: Another game that will come down to the wire. I’ve toiled over this pick for a few days and think it will be Brighton due to home field advantage and more experience so far this season.

RH: I am going with Brighton on this one, I think the extra rest will do them so good.

LM: I think Park City will take it.

DS: I know who will win, but I don’t want to spoil it for you. Come watch it unfold on KSLSports Rewind Friday night.

AW: The 5A Champ rematch. I think Park City is going to get their revenge here, 9-8.

Girls

April 1 - Snow Canyon @ Crimson Cliffs

CE: Snow Canyon has played better than Crimson Cliffs against their common opponents. I think the Warriors take this one.

TH: I’m going with Snow Canyon in this one. Lucie Hale has been great for the Warriors and will lead the team to victory.

RH: Snow Canyon is stronger than their record, it is going to be close but Snow Canyon for the win.

LM: Snow Canyon will win. They have a great offense, and Lucie Hale is a top scorer. I am going to say they take it 10-6.

DS: Expect a tight game here. Andie Atkin will have to be strong in the cage for the Stangs, but I think Hale is the difference. Snow Canyon close

AW: I’m taking Snow Canyon here. I’ll guess 12-10 for the Warriors.

April 2 - Lehi @ Lone Peak

CE: Lone Peak is looking to be back on track after their win against Herriman. I think the Knights keep the momentum going with a win here.

As we enter April, Cody Elmen broke down where each college team stands entering the final month of the college regular season. You can read that article here:

Utah dispatched the Bellarmine Knights in convincing fashion on Saturday with a 20-14 win. Utah scored a goal in the first minute of every quarter of the game. Utah jumped out to a three goal lead early with goals by Jordan Reed, Karson Sparks and Luke McNamara. Bellarmine notched its first goal of the game at the 9:32 mark then Mikey Crane stung the corner on a transition pole goal to give Utah a 4-1 lead. Utah led 5-3 at the end of the first quarter and 11-6 at halftime. Utah started the third quarter with a four goal run with Cade Faulkner, McNamara, Luke Haley and Ryan Stines finding the back of the net. Bellarmine went on a four goal run of its own over a two minute span to make the score 15-10 for Utah. The teams would trade goals until the end, with Utah taking home the victory. McNamara had 6 goals while Zach White had 3 goals and 3 assists. Will Overly had 5 assists and Stines finished with 2 goals and 3 assists. Luca Pivetta and Nikko DiPonio had 4 caused turnovers. Tyler Kloeckl went 22-31 at the faceoff X. Utah goalie Colin Lenskold had 7 saves while backup goalie Matt Dineen finished with 2 saves.

Westminster went 1-1 on the weekend with a 13-12 loss in overtime to Colorado Mesa and a 25-4 win over Adams State. Westminster trailed 12-9 with 2:14 left in the game against Colorado Mesa but then fought back and scored three goals in just one minute of play to tie the game. CMU scored with 31 seconds left in the first overtime to take home the win. Duke DeVault had 6 goals for the Griffins. Harrison Edwards finished with 5 assists. Christian Jones had 16 saves. On Saturday, it was easy sledding for the Griffins who took down Adams State. The Griffins led 15-3 at halftime and saw 21 players register at least one point. Maxwell Odom led the team with 4 goals and 2 assists. The Griffins had five players take faceoffs and went for a combined 26-33.

In the MCLA ranks, No. 3 South Carolina came to town and took down the Utah Club team on Friday, 19-9. The Gamecocks then took on No. 1 Utah Valley on Saturday. It was a game dominated by the Wolverines who jumped out to a 5-0 lead after the first quarter and a 10-2 lead at halftime. The second half was much more competitive but it was ultimately the Wolverines proving why they are the No. 1 team with a 16-10 win. Jackson Rehrer had 3 goals and an assist while Cam Rossi notched 2 goals and 2 assists. Several Wolverines finished with three points: Blake Yates, Cam Oswald, Ashton Wood and Tyson Mauri. Jacob Lundin went 18-22 from the faceoff X. Patrick Thomas had one of his best goals in cage for the Wolverines while registering 16 saves.

Southern Utah headed to Montana for tough games against No. 6 Montana State and No. 5 Montana. The T-birds lost 31-5 to Montana State on Saturday and 24-6 to No. 5 Montana on Sunday.

The Utah Club team held its Senior Night on Sunday and beat Utah State, 17-8.

Coming Up

There are several great games on the slate for this weekend but there is none better than No. 1 Utah Valley hosting No. 2 BYU on Friday. The game will be at Skyridge High School and will begin at 7:00pm. I’d encourage you to get the game if you can but if it’s not in the cards, the game will be streamed live on kslsports.com/watch. Both teams enter the game undefeated with potent offenses and stingy defenses. If you sort the stats on mcla.us in just the RMLC for points, you get a BYU trio in Mason Quick, Gavin Taylor and Cade Kirschner. UVU attackmen Jackson Rehrer and Blake Yates are fourth and fifth respectively. Both teams dominate the stat sheet. This game will be won with whoever can win the position group matchups. Can BYU attackman Mason Quick best his Corner Canyon teammate in UVU defensemen Jack Baird? The same question goes for BYU attackman Gavin Taylor who will likely draw his American Fork teammate in UVU defensemen Ed Card or Mackay Lock. Olympus will be well represented on both sides of the field with UVU’s Cam Rossi, Nate Delis, McKay Winegar, Bryce Heffernan and Tyler Thompson while BYU trots out Carson and Chase Bennion, Hutton Murphy, Gage Phippen and Jackson Wall. This game will be the first in what could likely be three total matchups between the Cougars and Wolverines this year. It’s likely the squads will meet again in the RMLC playoffs and MCLA National Tournament.

Continuing in the MCLA, Utah and Utah Tech both play Colorado and Colorado State in St. George this weekend. These games will likely decide the 3rd and 4th spots in the RMLC playoffs.

Westminster hosts Concordia Irvine on Thursday then takes on Dominican on Saturday in RMAC play.

Utah will head to Georgia to take on Mercer in as it looks to take down another ASUN foe.

Womens

Three of Utah’s women’s lacrosse teams were in Colorado this weekend. Westminster had a weekend of wins, facing off first against Fort Lewis College in Durango on Friday, and then playing Colorado State Pueblo on Sunday. The Griffins trounced Fort Lewis with a 20-8 victory, and then defeated the Thunder Wolves on Sunday 17-11.

A mixed weekend for the University of Utah women’s team. On Friday, they faced Colorado State and walked away with a win 15-7. On Saturday, it looked like they would add another victory to their record, leading Colorado for the first three quarters of the game before losing their momentum in the fourth. The Rams then took the win, 12-10. Utah Valley was also in Colorado and lost 17-10 to Colorado and beat Colorado State, 8-7.

Coming Up

This coming weekend is all about Colorado once again, with BYU, Utah State, and Westminster heading to the Rocky Mountain state. Utah Valley and Southern Utah will be facing off here in Utah.

Boys’ Week 4 Coaches Poll

This weeks poll saw some movement at the top but the bottom half stayed stagnant.

The Park City Miners sneaked into the top spot after heading to Colorado where it fell to Cherry Creek 11-5 and Valor Christian, 10-0. The Miners will take on Hillcrest on Tuesday, East on Wednesday and No. 2 Brighton on Friday.

Brighton was defeated on Tuesday at the hands of No. 3 Farmington, 10-9. Farmington led 1-0 after the first quarter then each team scored 3 goals in each quarter. Gabe Carrera led the team with 5 goals. Brighton will host No. 1 Park City on Friday.

Farmington beat No. 2 Brighton, 10-9 on Tuesday. Wyatt Salmon had 1 goal and 3 assists while Josh Vashaw scored 3 goals and 1 assist. Cole Smith had 3 goals for the Phoenix. Preston DeFries had 3 takeaways.

Olympus beat Juan Diego on Wednesday, 13-4, then lost to No. 6 Judge, 11-10 in overtime. Talmage Beynon and James Cannon both had 5 points in the Juan Diego game and 3 points and 4 points respectively in the Judge game. The Titans will host No. 5 Corner Canyon on Wednesday then East on Friday.

Corner Canyon had dominant efforts this week with a 23-11 win over Mountain Ridge and a 27-1 win over Cedar Valley. Ren Neilson had 7 goals and 1 assist against Mountain Ridge. Twenty Chargers registered at least one point against Cedar Valley. The schedule gets challenging for the Chargers this week who take on No. 4 Olympus on Wednesday and No. 7 Alta on Friday. The next week Corner Canyon will take on No. 6 Judge.

Judge Memorial squeaked out a win over Riverton, 10-8, on Wednesday then beat No. 4 Olympus, 11-10, in overtime on a goal by Rome Swanwick who had 5 goals on the night for the Bulldogs. Freddie Gowski had 2 goals and 2 assists. Judge will take on Waterford on Tuesday in the oldest Utah High School rivalry game. The old bucket helmet is up for grabs. The team then heads to Southern California to take on Los Alamitos and Santa Margarita on Friday and Saturday.

Alta beat Westlake on Tuesday, 17-4, then beat Wasatch, 12-8, on Thursday (read about this game below!). JJ Massi and Beckham Horoba both had 5 points against Westlake. Trevor Goins had 5 points for the Hawks against Wasatch. The Hawks will take on No. 5 Corner Canyon Friday.

Skyridge played three games this week and beat Hillcrest, Maple Mountain and Westlake while allowing just 4 goals per game and scoring 17 goals per game. The Falcons will take on Skyline on Tuesday then host the Menlo School on Friday.

Juan Diego beat Mountain Crest, 13-4, then fell to Olympus, 13-4, last week. The Soaring Eagle will take on Highland on Wednesday.

Bountiful had a great week beating Lone Peak, 11-8, and East, 17-10. A Davis County showdown will take place on April 10 when the Redhawks host Davis.

Other games we’ll have an eye on this week will be Timpview @ Lehi tonight and Pleasant Grove @ American Fork. Stay tuned to the site for our Staff Picks tomorrow that will feature several great games.

Alta Hawks Rally to Defeat Wasatch Wasps

The Wasatch Wasps opened their cross-region matchup against the Alta Hawks with immediate intensity. Sam King gave Wasatch an early 2-0 lead with two quick goals, maintaining offensive pressure throughout the first quarter. However, Alta’s Hogan Stout halted the momentum by finding the net late in the period, narrowing the deficit to 2-1.

Wasatch regained a two-point cushion early in the second quarter following a goal by Grady Coomes. Despite several attempts from Alta, the Wasps’ defense held firm, allowing Colby Harfert and Riley Hayes to extend the lead to 5-1 with four minutes remaining in the half.

The momentum shifted instantly as the Hawks’ offense erupted for four goals in just two minutes. Trevor Goins sparked the run, followed by scores from Spencer Parry, Cole Haddock, and JJ Massi to tie the game at 5-5. Wasatch’s Ty Griffith managed to sneak in a goal with only one second left on the clock, giving the Wasps a slim 6-5 lead at halftime.

Alta wasted no time in the third quarter. Following a face-off win by Kellen Torina (who finished with a 76% win rate), Massi scored to tie the game at 6-6. Wasatch’s Isaac Roylance briefly reclaimed the lead with an impressive shot, but that would be the final score for the Wasps. Alta goalie Bridger Tueller and his defensive unit shut down Wasatch for the remainder of the contest.

The Hawks entered the fourth quarter leading 9-8 and secured their sixth win of the season with insurance goals from Colbey Blackham and Massi.

Girls’ Week 4 Coaches Poll

This week brings a mix of milestone celebrations and fresh faces to the Top 10. While the undefeated teams continue to climb, a few historic programs are proving that strength of schedule matters just as much as the win-loss column.

Park City - The Miners hold onto the top spot after a challenging road trip to California and a pair of losses. They now return to local play with high-profile matchups against Brighton and Woods Cross on the horizon.

Riverton - Now sitting at a perfect 8-0, Riverton climbs one spot after dominant performances against Highland and Olympus. They are quickly becoming the team to watch as they continue to stack wins and build serious momentum. Can anyone stop them?

Skyridge - Despite dropping one spot, the Falcons still secured two first-place votes and look firmly in control of a competitive Region 3. Their next challenge comes against American Fork as they look to maintain their winning ways.

Mountain Ridge - The Sentinels move up to number four after bouncing back from a tough loss to Skyridge earlier in the season. They remain a consistent powerhouse that coaches expect to be a major factor when the playoffs arrive.

Bear River - The Bears celebrated a historic milestone this week by becoming the first sanctioned girls’ lacrosse team in Utah to reach 100 wins. Though they slipped one spot in the rankings, they remain undefeated and a perennial Top 5 contender.

Farmington - The Phoenix remain steady at number six, with their only losses coming against the top two teams in the state. They face a critical test in their next outing as they prepare to take on No. 4 Mountain Ridge.

Fremont - Making a massive four-spot jump, the Silverwolves have fought their way back into the Top 10 thanks to a string of consistent performances. They look to keep the streak alive with upcoming games against Northridge and Clearfield.

West Jordan - The Jaguars finally crack the Top 10, carrying a perfect record that has flown under the radar until now. Their legitimacy will be put to the ultimate test in an upcoming blockbuster matchup against No. 2 Riverton.

Lone Peak - Despite receiving two first-place votes, the Knights slide down to ninth following some hard-fought games against top-tier opponents. A difficult post-break schedule awaits them, featuring matchups with Corner Canyon and Lehi.

Syracuse - The Titans enter the rankings at number ten, rewarded for their steady improvement and a record marred only by a loss to Skyridge. They have a busy week ahead with games against Farmington and Layton to prove they belong in the elite tier.

Bulldogs’ Offensive Onslaught Overpowers Skyline

Judge Memorial’s reputation for high-scoring games held true as the Bulldogs defeated the Skyline Eagles 14-3 at McCarthy Stadium.

The Bulldogs wasted no time, as Lexi Young scored within the first minute. Heidi Delpouys quickly followed with an unassisted goal after winning the draw, giving Judge a 2-0 lead in the opening moments. While Skyline’s Jane Johnson narrowed the gap with a goal, Judge responded with scores from Polymnia Hanfland-Parenti, Caroline Chachas, and Tess Jacobson. Although Gwen Christensen found the back of the net for Skyline before the break, the Eagles trailed 9-2 heading into the second half.

In the second half, Judge Memorial shifted its focus to defense. Goalie Maggie Morgan anchored the unit, recording several point-blank saves to prevent Skyline from gaining any offensive traction. Meanwhile, the Bulldogs’ offense remained active as Tessa Fowler, Heidi Delpouys, and Jacobson—who finished with four goals—extended the lead to 12-2 by the end of the third quarter.

The final period saw the sister duo of Heidi and Sophia Delpouys each add goals to cement the victory. Despite the 14-3 final score, Skyline goalie Finley Larsen and her defensive front earned praise for a courageous performance, halting numerous attacks and keeping the score from climbing higher.

NCAA

Utah Utes

The Utes enter Atlantic Sun Conference play at 5-3, and are off to the hottest start in program history. Since joining the ASUN in 2022, Utah has been dominant, recording 32 wins and just 4 losses against conference opponents, leading to four consecutive ASUN regular-season titles and two ASUN Championships under Drew McMinn. Ryan Stines and Nikko DiPonio are early contenders for All-American honors, each likely to rewrite many Utah records by season’s end. Utah is the clear favorite to win the conference again, which has every other team in the ASUN eager to pull the Utes down from the top of the mountain.

The biggest threats to Utah’s crown are Air Force and Jacksonville. Air Force (1-4) has had a slow start to their season, but the Falcons are the only team in the conference with a winning record against the Utes, with three straight wins, each by one goal, and only two losses. The Falcons have two seniors of their own chasing records as Caelan Driggs aims for the most goals in school history, and Cole Cunningham chases the mark for ground balls. Air Force heads to Salt Lake City on April 25th for the final game of the season, which will be the Ute Proud Game and also the Senior Celebration.

Jacksonville’s record (4-4) might not seem impressive at first glance, but a closer look tells a different story. They have one-goal losses to North Carolina and Rutgers, with the latter going into overtime against the Scarlet Knights. The Dolphins also proved more competitive against Duke than Utah, trailing by just 3 going into the fourth quarter before Duke pulled away. Jacksonville is led by its dominant attack line of Nicky Brown, Daylin John-Hill, and Jack Taylor, who leads the Dolphins in goals and assists. A key for the game will be Utah’s ability to clear against Jacksonville’s ride. Against High Point, the Dolphins’ attack caused five turnovers. Utah will visit Jacksonville on April 11th, with the game streamed on ESPN+.

Utah’s conference games begin this Saturday at Noon at Ute Field against Bellarmine. The Utes travel to Macon, Georgia, to take on Mercer on April 4th, with the game streamed on ESPN+. After traveling to Jacksonville on April 11th, Utah is back home on April 18th to take on Queens at Ute Field. Utah closes out the regular season against Air Force before heading back to Jacksonville for the ASUN Conference Championship Tournament April 30th-May 3rd.

Westminster Griffins (Men’s)

Westminster’s men’s team moved to 3-0 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play with their 24-8 win at Northwest Nazarene on Saturday. The Griffins dominated from start to finish as Luke Sillstrop had 6 goals and 1 assist on only 9 shots. Westminster opened the season with a California road trip to play conference foes Dominican University and Concordia University Irvine. The Griffins shredded Dominican 22-6 before moving on to play CUI, who beat Westminster three times last year, including in the RMAC tournament, ending the Griffins’ season. However, this year, Westminster exacted some revenge on CUI, beating them 22-10 in Irvine.

Westminster is led on offense by Sillstrop with 20 goals and 7 assists on the season, including 8 goals and 2 assists during the road trip to California to start the season. Sillstrop’s performance earned him the RMAC offensive player of the week for the first time this season. Westminster swept the player of the week awards that week, as Defender Ben Weber also took home the RMAC defensive player of the week honors with 3 caused turnovers and 2 assists. Ben has caused 6 total turnovers on the season, to go along with 10 ground balls and 3 assists as a long-pole. Goalie Christian Jones has been everywhere for the Griffins. Jones is second on the team in caused turnovers, third on the team in ground balls, and tallied an assist. When he’s not doing everything else, Jones still has 76 saves on the year with a 61% save percentage.

Westminster plays every RMAC team twice, once on the road and once at home. Early in the season, it seems to be a two-team race at the top of the conference between Westminster and No. 15 Colorado Mesa. Last year, the teams split the season series, with each team winning on the road. Westminster will look to protect Dumke Field this season as they host Colorado Mesa on Thursday at 7 pm. Adams State comes to Salt Lake City on March 28th, followed by CUI on April 2nd, and Dominican on April 4th. The Griffins will head to Grand Junction to play Colorado Mesa and win the season series. Westminster will stay in Colorado to take on Adams State on April 11th, then finish the regular season at Dumke Field against Northwest Nazarene on April 18th. Following that game, Westminster will prepare for the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference tournament, which begins on April 24th.

Westminster Griffins (Women’s)

Westminster’s women’s team is also off to a strong 3-0 start in conference play as the Griffins held off Colorado Mesa 16-13 on Saturday. Jordan Williamson scored the go-ahead goal on a free-position shot in the fourth quarter, scoring 5 goals on the day as well as 2 assists. Westminster began Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference games on March 13th at home against the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, winning 12-11. The Griffins had a quick turnaround, playing Regis University two days later and once again winning 12-11. Westminster has been on a revenge tour this season as Regis and UCCS beat the Griffins twice last year, and Colorado Mesa beat Westminster three times, including at the RMAC tournament, which ended the Griffins’ season. Westminster looks stronger this year and is poised to make a run for the top of the conference.

The Griffins are led by two-time national defensive player of the week Marianna Dick. Marianna leads NCAA Division II in caused turnovers per game with 4.57, with 32 caused turnovers through 7 games. Against UCCS, Marianna caused 7 turnovers and surpassed 100 caused turnovers and 100 ground balls for her career, and she’s only a junior. The offense is balanced at attack with multiple players capable of scoring in volume. Olivia Petrosky scored 5 goals with 1 assist against UCCS; Ava Deakins scored 4 goals with 1 assist against Regis; Holly Shoughro scored 4 goals with 1 assist against William Jewell; and, as previously mentioned, Williamson scored 5 goals with 2 assists against Colorado Mesa. Westminster is loaded on offense and anchored on defense by Marianna Dick, and the Griffins look ready to stand at the top of the conference for the first time in a while.

Westminster has a long road trip ahead of them as they travel to Colorado to take on Fort Lewis on Friday, followed by CSU-Pueblo on Sunday. The Griffins head to Grand Junction to face Colorado Mesa on April 3rd. Westminster gets a week off before heading back to Colorado to play Regis University in Denver on April 10th, then finally finish their road-game stretch against UCCS in Colorado Springs on April 12th. The last two games of the road trip are likely to be vital as UCCS and Regis sit at the top of the conference with Westminster, and both played the Griffins tight at Dumke Field. Westminster finishes its season at home against CSUP on April 17th and Fort Lewis on April 19th.

BYU traveled to Knoxville, Tennessee, last week to take on Auburn, No. 7 Liberty, and No. 6 Tennessee. The Cougars’ road trip was successful, as they won all three games, including a blowout win over Liberty, who knocked BYU out of the MCLA tournament last year. The Cougars also feature three other ranked wins against No. 18 Texas, No. 15 Oregon, and No. 19 Simon Fraser. BYU has been battle-tested and is ready to make another run at the national championship.

What happens when you add Mason Quick, one of the best goal-scorers in Utah High School lacrosse history, to an attack line already featuring Gavin Taylor and Cade Kirschner? You get 122 goals, 55 assists, and an absolute headache for anyone trying to guard them. If you focus on the attack group too long, Hutton Murphy will make you pay, as many defenses have seen to the tune of 26 goals and 18 assists. The Cougars’ midfield may not score at the same rate as the attack, but they initiate a lot of the offense and notch tons of assists. BYU’s defense has been excellent at causing turnovers this year, especially from their LSMs and defensive midfield. Short-stick Devin Nguyen, as well as LSMs Taylor Crump and Isaac Anderson, each have more than 10 caused turnovers so far this season.

There is no denying it, BYU’s biggest game this season is against UVU. The little brother from Orem is now fully grown and has become a problem for the Cougars. On April 3rd, another chapter in this rivalry will be written, and the outcome will shape the remainder of both teams’ seasons. Will BYU have the last laugh once again, or will UVU continue to grow out of the shadow cast by BYU? Either way, the struggle for power in the RMLC and MCLA as a whole runs through Utah County. Following the blockbuster match-up against UVU, BYU also hits the road to play Colorado on April 9th and Colorado State on April 11th. The Cougars then head home for the lacrosse version of the Holy War against Utah’s club team, before finishing their regular season at home against Utah Tech.

Utah State Aggies

Utah State began conference play last weekend with its toughest match-up in Division II RMLC against No. 6 Montana State, where the Aggies fell 16-12. It’s been a grueling schedule for Coach Taylor’s crew as six of their ten games have come against ranked opponents, and four of those six against teams ranked in the top ten of Division II. The remaining schedule isn’t much easier, as Utah State will take on No. 3 Air Force and No. 4 College of Idaho on April 10th and 11th in Logan. By the end of the season, the Aggies will have played every school ranked in the top 6 in Division II.

Due to its tough schedule, it’s hard to get a read on the Aggies from the stats. While their games have been difficult, they rarely get blown out, but they’re not exactly down to the wire either. What is clear is that Bryson Fell has been the go-to for the offense, delivering 13 goals and 15 assists. Against Bridgewater State, Fell had 2 goals and 4 assists, 6 points in a game the Aggies won by 5. However, the Aggies’ strength has been its defense. In the 3 wins, Utah State has not allowed more than 10 goals and routinely holds its difficult opponents’ offenses under their season average. Zachary Davis, Garret Herbert, and Daniel “Bear” VanKampen each have at least 13 caused turnovers and 20 ground balls each.

Utah State’s remaining division games are against Southern Utah and Wyoming. When the Aggies take on the Cowboys, Utah State is likely to win. So, the final RMLC Division II tournament spot is down to Utah State or Southern Utah. This critical match-up will be played in Logan on April 12th.

Utah Tech Trailblazers

Utah Tech opened its season with two RMLC games against UVU and Utah, losing both. The Trailblazers would love that game against the Utes back as it’s the closest they’ve come to winning a conference game in a long time. Utah Tech has nothing to be ashamed of, however, as they enter the remainder of conference play with a record of 6-5. Since making the jump to Division I MCLA in 2024, Utah Tech has had a combined two wins in that span. The Blazers have notched wins against Denver and Oklahoma before beating up on the Pacific Northwest. Tech’s trip up north was very successful as they swept Washington, Oregon State, Washington State, and Central Washington.

The strength of this Trailblazer’s team has been the offense. The whole first line of attack and midfield have been key contributors, all averaging more than a goal a game. However, it’s been Eli Greenway leading the way with 24 goals and 11 assists. Carter McLaughlin has been fantastic at the face-off X, winning 68% of draws this season. Even if he doesn’t win the face-off, Carter has been great at getting the ball back, causing 9 turnovers. Tech’s entire defense has been aggressive, causing many turnovers. That aggressiveness has backfired at times, however, as they’ve been penalized more than 4 times per game.

Utah Tech has the shortest remaining schedule of any RMLC Division I team, with just three games remaining. Tech plays the Colorado schools on back-to-back days over Easter weekend in St. George. The Trailblazers start with Colorado on Saturday, followed by Colorado State on Sunday. Utah Tech’s best chance at winning a conference game for the first time likely comes against Colorado State, as the Rams will have played a tough Utah team in the St. George heat the day before. The Trailblazers finish off their season on April 18th against BYU in Provo.

Utah Utes

The University of Utah club lacrosse team has been quietly having its best season since moving up to Division I MCLA. Utah sits at 4-2 with those two losses coming against ranked opponents. Utah beat No. 15 Oregon 12-11 at the beginning of March and will have its shot at No. 3 South Carolina this Friday. Utah then plays its final home game on March 29th against Utah State. Due to the success of UVU and BYU, the Utes have been able to fly under the radar in the RMLC. However, if Utah can knock off one or both of the Colorado schools, there’s a good chance we will see three Utah schools in the RMLC tournament.

Utah’s offense is unpredictable in the best kind of way. In any game, anyone on the offense is likely to take over. Against Boise State, it was Cole Pollard with 3 goals and 2 assists; against Utah Tech, it was Ryan Ostermann with five goals; and against Oregon, it was Owen Edwards with 3 goals and 2 assists. Utah’s trio of face-off specialists are all near 50%, and the Utes have been competitive on face-offs in every game. If Utah is going to make it to the postseason, the defense will need to step up, as they have allowed double-digit goals in five out of their six games.

Utah already has one conference win over Utah Tech in February, when the Utes survived a comeback bid from Tech and escaped St. George with a one-goal win. That one goal may be the difference between the Utes getting to play in the post-season or watching their Utah County rivals battle for the conference title. On Easter weekend, Utah travels to St. George to play Colorado State on April 4th and Colorado on April 5th. Colorado State seems to be the easier opponent for the Utes as it’s their first game of the back-to-back, and the Rams have struggled so far this season. However, they upset No. 12 Chapman last Sunday. The Utes close out the regular season against BYU on April 15th, then UVU on April 18th. Ideally, after that, all three teams would begin preparations for the RMLC tournament.

Utah Valley Wolverines

The Wolverines of Utah Valley University enter the heart of its Rocky Mountain Lacrosse Conference (RMLC) schedule as the No. 1 team in the country according to the MCLA polls. In their ranked games this year against No. 18 Texas, No. 4 UC Santa Barbara and No. 16 Cal Poly, the Wolverines have remained dominant, winning nearly wire-to-wire in every contest. Coach Maxfield’s squad is stacked with the nightmares of Utah high school coaches at every position. These Wolverines are deep, talented, hard-nosed, and look poised to take that final leap the Wolverines have just missed these last two years.

UVU’s offense is unbelievably deep. The Wolverines have a staggering 10 players averaging at least 1 goal per game. Blake Yates leads the charge with 27 goals through 7 games with an additional 9 assists. Jake Lundin, the February MCLA player of the month, is 82% at the X to go along with his 7 goals and 6 assists. Jack Baird leads a tough and physical Wolverine defense that has stifled every offense they’ve faced this year, as seven of their eight opponents have failed to hit double digits.

As many praises as there are to sing about UVU, it doesn’t mean anything to them if they can’t beat the other team in Utah County. The two best teams in the RMLC, and in all of MCLA, are less than four miles away from each other. BYU will take the 10-minute drive to Orem on Friday, April 3rd, to renew their heated rivalry, likely as the No. 1 and No. 2 teams in the country. Following its contest against BYU, the Wolverines head to Colorado to take on the Colorado State Rams on April 9th and the Colorado Buffaloes on April 11th. They will then return home to take on the University of Utah club team to close out their regular season schedule.

Southern Utah Thunderbirds

Southern Utah has a much shorter schedule than the rest of the Utah teams. The Thunderbirds have only played three games so far this season, going 1-2, with a win over Claremont and losses to Denver and Oregon State. The rest of their schedule hits hard, however, as SUU travels to Montana to play their first RMLC game against No. 6 Montana State this Saturday, followed by No. 5 Montana on Sunday. The Thunderbirds will take on another top-ten team in No. 3 Air Force, followed by their key match-up against Utah State.

There is much to learn about this SUU team’s identity. One thing we know is they’re young and hungry. Freshman Trace Overson notched his first career hat-trick against Oregon State and looks to be a key contributor for the Thunderbirds for the remainder of this year. The roster is majority underclassmen, ready to prove themselves. Look for Overson and goalie Ethan Campbell to lead the charge for the T-Birds now and into the future.

Both RMLC Divisions will hold their playoffs on April 24th and April 25th at Zions Bank Stadium. Ticket and streaming information will be announced soon!

WCLA

Brigham Young Cougars

BYU entered conference play with a 3-2 record, with the two losses coming on the road against No. 1 UC Santa Barbara and No. 9 Georgia. When BYU returned to Utah, they picked up big conference wins against Utah State and Utah Valley, but lost to No. 13 Utah. This loss currently holds the Cougars at second place in the conference before their road trip to take on Colorado and Colorado State.

When BYU is confident on offense, it’s going to be a long day for any defense. The Cougars have three games this season in which they have scored more than 20 goals. Whitney Holt and Elise Cardall each average 2 goals a game. On defense, Abigail Hooper and Londyn Giles lead the charge with 12 or more caused turnovers each. Anna Kreipl has been strong in goal with 52 saves in 9 games.

With key wins against Utah State and UVU, BYU has put itself in a good position to battle for the RMWLL championship. This road trip to Colorado will be difficult, as Colorado and BYU had similar scores in their games against UCSB. One thing to consider is that travel for club lacrosse is difficult, especially this late in the school year, which could make the difference in these final two games. Either way, it seems BYU has also earned a spot in the RMWLL tournament alongside Utah.

Utah State Aggies

Utah State started the season with some competitive losses to two top teams in No. 12 Texas and Denver. They followed that up with a blowout win over the University of Portland to enter conference play at 1-2. However, it’s been tough for the Aggies, who’ve lost three straight to No. 16 BYU, UVU, and No. 13 Utah, likely eliminating Utah State from the RMWLL tournament.

The Aggies have had success on offense in a lot of their games. They have multiple threats who all average more than a point per game. Kaitlyn Davenport leads the way with 7 goals and 3 assists, Sophia Nielsen has 8 goals and 1 assist in addition to her 11 ground balls on the season, and Kenzie Sulz has 7 goals and 2 assists.

Utah State’s last two games are in Colorado against Colorado State and Colorado. The Aggies are playing with house money as they have nothing to lose. USU can let loose and play without fear, then try to regroup for next season.

Utah Tech

Utah Tech has also finished their conference schedule for this season at 0-6. Their record isn’t as bad as it looks, as the Trailblazers played many of the top teams in Division II, including No. 1 Montana State and No. 7 Air Force twice. Similar to SUU, Tech played a close game against Colorado School of Mines, only losing by two goals.

Despite the difficult schedule, Tessa Mortensen has been leading the Trailblazers offense with 7 goals and 1 assist in addition to her 10 ground balls and 11 takeaways. On defense, Lyli Rosenberg has been a huge problem for offenses, with 19 takeaways and 19 ground balls. In goal, Bryce Curtis has been excellent with a 43% save percentage while facing more than 100 shots on goal.

While conference play is over for Utah Tech, they still have two opportunities to get their first win of the year. The Trailblazers will travel to Arizona to take on Grand Canyon on April 11th and Northern Arizona on April 12th. GCU and NAU each only have 1 win, and it will be a great opportunity for Tech to end the season on a high note.

Utah Utes

Utah had a tough start to its season as it traveled to take on No. 9 Georgia and No. 2 Florida, resulting in a 1-2 start for the Utes. However, since returning home, Utah has started conference play strongly, with a 3-0 record, including wins over No. 16 BYU, UVU, and Utah State. The Utes have been dominant in conference play, winning by an average of 10 goals per game, which has resulted in them being ranked No. 13 in WLCA. So far, Utah looks to be the favorite to advance to the RMWLL tournament on April 10th and 11th.

Utah’s offense is blisteringly fast, and Kendall Danielson sets the pace. She is averaging 2.6 goals per game, which leads the team and the conference. Elle Vickers has been setting the tone with strong performances in draw control and takeaways, along with her 1.5 goals per game. Liv Lowe has been impressive in goal, with a 51% save percentage, as Utah continues to hold high-powered offenses to under 10 goals.

Utah has finished a majority of their conference schedule with just Colorado State and Colorado left to play. The Utes face off against CSU on Friday and CU on Saturday. Both Colorado teams are relative unknowns, as their only conference game has been against each other, with Colorado winning 12-7. Both have played tough out-of-conference schedules, with CSU losing only to No. 12 Texas by 2, and CU facing No. 11 San Diego State and No. 1 UC Santa Barbara. Even with these tough contests, the Utes look to be a lock for the RMWLL tournament.

Utah Valley Wolverines

UVU has had a more difficult time this season, especially with its brutal out-of-conference schedule. The Wolverines have played No. 1 UC Santa Barbara, No. 2 Florida, Oregon, Oregon State, and Michigan State. UVU’s record was 1-6 before conference games began, which was made worse by No. 13 Utah. The Wolverines picked up a win against Utah State before losing to rival No. 16 BYU.

If the Wolverines can get their offense going, they have a chance. In games where they have scored at least ten goals, they are 2-2. Kate Weekes spearheads the UVU attack with 20 goals and 10 assists on the season. Katelyn Sperry and Ella Clark have been the beneficiaries of Weekes initiating the offense, as they have 12 goals each. Sophie Grizzle is everywhere on the field with 9 goals, 9 assists, 18 ground balls, and 26 draw controls. Alyssa Byrge leads the team in takeaways with 26 and ground balls with 27. Peighton Kimble has been excellent in goal, especially considering the volume of shots she’s seen from some top competition. Kimble has 92 saves this season and a 51% save percentage.

UVU also travels to Colorado this week to take on Colorado and Colorado State. The situation is more dire for the Wolverines, however, as they need to win at least one of those games to attempt to secure a spot in the RMWLL tournament, and judging by similar opponents, it’s going to be an uphill battle for UVU.

Southern Utah Thunderbirds

Southern Utah has already finished its conference schedule, finishing with a conference record of 1-6 and an overall record of 3-8. Their lone conference win came against local rival Utah Tech 11-5. Out of conference, SUU defeated San Jose State and the University of Portland. Despite their record, the T-Birds were competitive in some tough games, including against the Air Force Academy and the Colorado School of Mines. SUU has one game remaining on April 3rd against Utah Valley.

The RMWLL playoffs will be held in Salt Lake City on April 10th and 11th. Times and locations have yet to be announced.

Week 3 Recap

March 21 - BYU v. Tennessee (Men’s)
The Cougars third game of the week was against No. 6 Tennessee. The Cougars jumped out to a 4-1 lead after the first quarter and a 9-5 lead at halftime. The Cougars led 11-5 after the third quarter then Tennessee had 5 goals in the fourth and allowed one to pull within 2, making the final score, 12-10 in favor of BYU. All of the staff picked the Cougars in this one.

March 21 - Westminster v. Colorado Mesa (Women’s)
This was one of the better games of the year so far with Westminster coming away with a 16-13 win. The Griffins had a 10-4 lead at halftime, then a 12-8 lead after the third quarter. The Mavericks went on a three-goal run to begin the fourth quarter to pull within one but the Griffins answered. Mesa scored two more to tie the game at 13 with 5:47 left in the game. Westminster stood tall and scored three straight to take home the 16-13 win. Each staff member picked Westminster to win.

March 20 - East @ Skyline (Boy’s)
East took home a 20-12 win on the back of Bailey Pearson-Ortoani who had 8 goals and 2 assists for the Leopards.

March 20 - Corner Canyon @ Brighton (Boy’s)
This was a great showdown against top teams with Brighton coming away with the 13-11 win over the Chargers. You can rewatch the game here.

March 17 - Mountain Ridge @ Skyridge (Girl’s)
In another top-ranked matchup, Skyridge came away with a 15-9 win. Tessa Jamison had 5 goals for the Falcons.

Cody Elmen: If UVU wants to make a statement to BYU, they need to win this game big. South Carolina’s only loss is to Liberty, who BYU just destroyed. I’m picking UVU to win big and put BYU on notice.

Tim Haslam: I’m going to take a page out of Dane’s book and not make a pick since I’ll be doing the play-by-play on the livestream. Tune in at 1:00pm on Saturday on kslsports.com/watch.

Ron Hill: I know UVU is pretty good, don’t know much about South Caroline, got to stay at home, UVU

Libby Mitchell: I think UVU is going to take South Carolina. Both teams are evenly matched, but UVU is on home turf – and it’s at a very high altitude.

Dane Stewart: I think UVU uses this to prep them for the big one coming up. Wolverines run in this one.

Austin Whiting: Great matchup, but I can’t pick against the Wolverines, UVU 13-10.

March 28 - Utah @ Colorado (Women’s)

CE: I picked against Utah earlier this year, and they proved me wrong. I won’t let it happen again. Utah wins.

TH: The Utes have been on a roll lately and some lowly Buffaloes won’t stop them! Utes will win.

RH: I’m going against the flow on this one. As much as it digs at me, going with the Buffs.

LM: I like what I am seeing from Utah this year. They aren’t winning everything, but they are learning from every loss. I think they’ll win.

DS: Utes roll

AW: Utah > Colorado always. Gimme the Utes! 10-7.

March 26 - Timpanogos @ Timpview

RH: Timpview is playing strong right now. Timpview with a double-digit win.

March 27 - Bingham @ Davis

CE: There would be a lot of people upset with me if I didn’t pick Bingham, but that’s not why I’m picking them. Coach Everill’s squad is very upperclassmen-heavy, especially on defense. If Bingham can keep up with the physicality and clear the ball well, I think their experience can carry them through.

TH: On paper, this is setting up to be a really great game. I think Bingham will control the faceoff X, which will bode well for the Miners. I’m picking Bingham in OT.

RH: I’m giving Davis the home-field advantage on this one. They know how to throw a lacrosse party in Kaysville. Going to be tough, Bingham is bringing some experience.

LM: This is anyone’s game. I’ll pick Davis.

DS: The mine drew copper, but it’ll strike gold here. Bingham

AW: Bingham’s got a great experienced squad and Davis still seems to be finding its footing after losing so many great Seniors. I’ll guess the Miners 14-8.

Girls

March 24 - Herriman @ Fremont

CE: This is a toss-up. Herriman’s losses have been close, but Fremont has played strong competition overall. That drive from Herriman to Plain City feels like a difference-maker. I’m picking Fremont.

TH: Fremont will use its homefield advantage and send the Mustangs home with a loss. Fremont wins in a back-and-forth affair.

RH: Fremont seems to be getting stronger as the year goes on. Going with the Silverwolves.

LM: I think Fremont.

DS: Two offenses that have been strong all year. Fremont’s experience at draw, I’ll lean Silverwolves here close.

AW: I could see this matchup going either way, I’m going to give a slight advantage to the Mustangs. I pick Herriman 11-10.

March 26 - Spanish Fork @ American Fork

CE: I’m a sucker for transitive property in sports, so Tim has sold me on American Fork winning this one based on their common opponents.

TH: Both teams lost to Copper Hills, 13-7. The other common opponent? Orem. American Fork got past the Tigers easily, which will bode well for them in this one. American Fork wins.

RH: These teams are even; I’m taking the easy way out, homefield victory for American Fork.

LM: I’m with Tim. American Fork has the stronger streak coming in, but after a series of losses, Spanish Fork may be coming into the game wanting to prove something.

DS: I’ll side with American Fork here

AW: Battle of the Forks! I think AF will take this trophy home, 10-7.

While we talk a lot about what happens on the field, I often think about all the things that happen in our sport off the field. One of the thoughts I’ve had this week revolves around traveling trophies for rivalry games. Maryland - Johns Hopkins has a large, wooden crab that gets passed to the winner each year. Olympus and Skyline have a painted rock for their football rivalry. It’s time for traveling trophies to become a thing for lacrosse in Utah. I should mention that there is one already in the state. The winner of the Judge v. Waterford game gets to take home and display the an old bucket helmet that is painted Judge Red and Waterford Blue. Here are a couple of ideas for others:

• Utah v. Air Force (Men’s NCAA D-I): Six of the 8 games in this rivalry have been one-goal affairs. One was a two-goal game. Typically the winner is the regular season ASUN champ. I think this game needs a giant wooden feather as the trophy as it ties the feathers of a Falcons to Swoop AND the feathers on the drum/circle in the Utes primary logo. I also wanted to avoid anything ‘Rocky Mountain’ related as I think that trope is a little played out.

• Juan Diego v. Judge: It was good to see the boys teams playing on St. Patrick’s Day again, a tradition that dates way back to 2009 when current Judge principal Pat Lambert was the head coach at Juan Diego. The teams used to attend Mass together as well on game day. If the teams continue the St. Patrick’s Day theme, I think a giant Shamrock should fit the bill.

• Spanish Fork v. American Fork: I’ll admit I saw this on the Spanish Fork Instagram last week as they claimed it to be the ‘Battle of the Forks’. This sparked the idea for a giant fork to go to the winner.

• Sky View v. Green Canyon: A bronze bust of Troy Oldham would fit best. Oldham coached at Sky View for several years before Green Canyon opened and has been a great coach in Cache Valley all these years.

• Geographic Versions: You could also do trophies that tie geographies together like ‘Battle for the Ridge’ which would be Mountain Ridge, Skyridge and maybe throw in Ridgeline? ‘Battle for the Skies’ could include Skyline, Skyridge and Sky View? ‘Mayor of the Mountains’ could fit Mountain Ridge, Mountain View, Maple Mountain and Mountain Crest. Something tying Green Canyon and Snow Canyon would be fun considering the ‘Canyon’ of land between them. I’m sure something for Timpanogos and Timpview could be arranged that deals with a mountain of some sort.

• East/West/Highland: The Battle for Salt Lake City.

It’s fun to think about and I hope to see some trophies come to fruition. Tell us below your ideas for a traveling trophy!

Mens

Utah headed to Charlottesville, Virginia, to Stott Stadium, home of the 2026 Men’s Championship game, and fell to the Cavaliers, 16-11. The first half was an even effort by both teams with Virginia holding a 5-4 lead at halftime. A strong third quarter and strong faceoff play lifted Virginia to an insurmountable lead over Utah who is now 5-3 heading into ASUN play. Luke McNamara had 4 goals and 1 assist. Will Overly finished with 4 goals. Zach White had 4 assists. Colin Lenskold had 13 saves.

Westminster scrimmaged Southern Virginia on Wednesday in front of a full grandstand, then went to Idaho to take on Northwest Nazarene where they dominated the Nighthawks, 24-8. The Griffins had a 14-3 halftime lead before cruising to victory. Twenty Griffins registered a point led by Luke Sillstrop who had 6 goals and 1 assist. Christian Jones had 17 saves and the win.

In the MCLA, No. 2 BYU had a three game swing in Tennessee where it proved it once again is a top team in the club ranks. First was a showdown with Auburn which saw the Cougars win, 14-6. Then, BYU took on No. 7 Liberty and won in convincing fashion, 25-12. Mason Quick had 5 goals and 2 assists to lead the team in points. Cade Kirschner and Gavin Taylor each had 4 goals for the Cougars. On Saturday, BYU faced No. 6 Tennessee and won 12-10. BYU had a 11-5 lead heading into the fourth quarter. The Vols outscored BYU 5-1 in the final frame but it wasn’t enough. Kirschner had 4 goals and 2 assists. Easton Carter had 1 goal and 4 assists. Easton Wilkey had 17 saves for the Cougars.

No. 1 UVU also went to Idaho and faced Minnesota and Boise State and left with two wins. The Wolverines manhandled the Gophers, 27-4 and did the same to Boise State, winning 23-8.

Utah State beat Minn-Duluth, 6-5, on Sunday to improve to 3-7 on the year. The Aggies will take on the Utah Club on Sunday at 7:00pm.

Coming Up
This week is another great week to see live lacrosse beginning on Thursday when Westminster hosts Colorado Mesa in a key RMAC showdown. The last four games between these teams have been split and decided by just 5 total goals. It will be a must-see game at 7:00pm on Dumke Field.

On Friday, the Utah Club team will host No. 3 South Carolina. That game is slated for 7:00pm and can be streamed from uteslacrosseclub.com/livestream.

On Saturday, the action begins at 11:00am with Westminster hosting Adams State. Then, at Ute Field at Noon, Utah takes on Bellarmine. The Utes haven’t lost to the Knights and will look to get back in the win column as ASUN play begins. At 1:00pm, No. 3 South Carolina will take on No. 1 Utah Valley in MCLA action. SUU heads to Montana for a showdown with No. 6 Montana State in the MCLA D-II ranks.

On Sunday, SUU will take on No. 5 Montana at Noon then the Utah Club team will host Utah State on Crimson Field at 7:00pm.

Womens

Westminster had two wins this week, first against William Jewel 20-7, and then against Colorado Mesa 16-13. In the game against Jewell, the Griffins got off to an early start with an immediate 6-0 scoring run to open the first quarter. The Griffins’ offense remained relentless throughout the game, led by standout performances from Jordan Williamson and Holly Shoughro, who combined for multiple goals and assists.

Playing against Mesa, Westminster overcame a massive fourth-quarter surge, responding to a 13-13 tie with three unanswered goals in the final minutes to secure the win. Jordan Williamson and Olivia Petrosky anchored the offense throughout the contest, leading a clinical 10-4 first-half performance and delivering the clutch goals needed to seal the game.

BYU and Utah Valley University faced off on Saturday. BYU walked away with a resounding win 14 to 2. The University of Utah and Utah State both played doubleheaders this weekend. First up, USU took on BSU and beat them on Saturday in Logan. On Sunday, Utah took on Boise State and beat them 19-7. The Aggies then faced off against the Utes, falling to them 17-5.

Coming Up
This coming week, the women’s teams are traveling and all of them are heading to Colorado. On the 27th, Westminster will face off with Fort Lewis, Utah will play Colorado State and UVA will play the University of Colorado. On Saturday, UVU and Utah will switch opponents, with Utah playing Colorado and UVU playing CSU. Then on Sunday, Westminster will battle CSU Pueblo.

Boys’ Week 3 Coaches Poll

Week 3 of the boys high school season saw several ranked matchups and other great results from Snow Canyon to Sky View.

Brighton remained the top team in this week’s poll due to wins over Wasatch, 15-6, and No. 3 Corner Canyon, 13-12. Gabe Carrera had 7 points against Wasatch and four against the Chargers. Brighton heads to No. 5 Farmington on Tuesday then doesn’t play again until it takes on No. 2 Park City on 4/3.

Park City is off to a great start with wins last week over No. 7 Alta, 9-3, and Davis, 16-3. The Miners defense is allowing just 3.5 goals per game. Wade Birch and Henry Alnwick are the dynamic duo for the Miners thus far. Park City will head to Colorado to play Cherry Creek and Valor Christian this week.

Corner Canyon moved up three spots with a 9-8 win over No. 5 Farmington and a one goal loss to No. 1 Brighton on Friday. Pearson Degracie has 15 goals and 10 assists for the Chargers this season. The question mark at faceoff coming into the season seems to be figured out with Kampton Dutton (69%) and Evan Wentworth (50%) taking the face. The Chargers will take on Mountain Ridge and Cedar Valley this week.

Olympus has put together nice results so far this season with the lone loss coming to Los Alamitos (CA). The Titans beat Herriman 17-5 on Wednesday then beat No. 8 Skyridge, 16-8, on Friday. James Cannon, Cameron Johnson and Kai Rossi all had 4 points for the Titans on Friday. The next four for the Titans feature No. 9 Juan Diego, No. 6 Judge, No. 3 Corner Canyon and an up and coming East squad.

Farmington took on No. 3 Corner Canyon on Tuesday and fell, 9-8. They rebounded well against Northridge, winning 18-2. Wyatt Salmon had 2 goals and 2 assists against Corner Canyon while Kai Beynon and Ryder Hill had 5 points each against Northridge. The Phoenix will head to No. 1 Brighton on Tuesday then will take time off for Spring break before hosting Riverton on 4/7.

Judge Memorial fell two spots after a 17-9 win over No. 9 Juan Diego on St. Patrick’s Day and losing to No. 7 Alta, 15-12 on Friday. Sean Jerome had 9 points against the Soaring Eagle while Freddy Gowski had 6 points against the Hawks. Judge will host Riverton on Wednesday then head to No. 4 Olympus on Friday.

Alta lost 9-3 to No. 2 Park City then beat No. 6 Judge on Friday, 15-12. There wasn’t much to write home about for the Hawks faithful against Park City but Beckham Horoba did notch 2 goals with Colby Blackham getting the other. Kellen Torina went 11 of 13 at the faceoff X for Alta. On Friday, Horoba once again led the team with 3 goals and 2 assists. Bridger Tueller had 13 saves and the win in goal for Alta. The Hawks will head to Westlake on Tuesday in a game that can be streamed live on kslsports.com/watch. The Hawks will then host Wasatch on Thursday. The next four games after that include No. 3 Corner Canyon, a trip to Maryland to face Manchester Valley and Hereford, then No. 1 Brighton.

Skyridge was on a roll until Friday night where it suffered a 16-8 loss to No. 4 Olympus. The Falcons will play three games this week starting today at Hillcrest. Skyridge then hosts Maple Mountain on Wednesday and Westlake on Friday.

Juan Diego had a reality check on Tuesday, losing to No. 6 Judge on Tuesday, 17-9. The Soaring Eagle bounced back with a nice 18-7 win over Timpanogos on Friday. Noah Schuyler had 4 goals and 5 assists in the win. Juan Diego will host Mountain Crest tonight then take on No. 4 Olympus on Wednesday.

Bountiful enters the polls after earning a 5-1 start to the season. The lone loss is to No. 2 Park City on March 13. Last week the Redhawks bested Bingham, 9-6, then Syracuse, 20-5. Carter Terry is in fine form after he scored 4 goals against Bingham and 5 against Syracuse. Bountiful will host Lone Peak on Tuesday, then head to East on Friday.

Other teams to keep your eye on would be Westlake (5-0), Riverton (5-2), Green Canyon (7-0), Mountain Crest (6-0) and Bear River (4-1).

Boys Spotlight Game of the Week by Hill and Hill Photography

Maple Mountain vs Waterford

The Waterford Ravens boys’ lacrosse team opened their 2026 season this past Monday, hosting the Maple Mountain Eagles in a high-energy debut. After waiting all spring for their first whistle, the Ravens proved they were ready, securing a hard-fought 14-9 victory.

Waterford’s Max Mishurda ignited the offense immediately, netting two quick goals for an early 2-0 lead. While Maple Mountain’s Tate Anderson answered back, Ravens Noah Chao and Andrew Rurka responded with back-to-back points. A late buzzer-beater by Eagle Bode Belka ended the first quarter with Waterford up 4-2.

The second quarter belonged entirely to the Ravens. A five-goal barrage—led by Mishurda’s hat trick and contributions from freshman Pierce Hauber, Kellen Kemper, and Gavin Rurka—extended the lead. Anderson managed another “sneaky” goal for the Eagles just before halftime, leaving the score at 9-3.

Maple Mountain surged in the third quarter. Anderson, Carson Bingham, Jensen Grimshaw, and Max Cuell combined for a four-goal run, cutting the deficit significantly. However, Waterford’s Chao scored in the final seconds to break the streak, maintaining a 10-7 lead heading into the final frame.

In the fourth, freshman goalie Sean O’Brien and the Ravens’ “stingy” defense locked down, allowing only two more goals. Meanwhile, Hauber fueled a four-goal offensive response to seal the 14-9 win.

Girls’ Week 3 Coaches Poll

For the third week in a row, Park City is at the top of the charts for coaches across the state. The proof is in the pudding; the Miners are undefeated and had an amazing victory over number six Farmington this week, 18-2. Sophomore Nadia Szajkun led the team to the victory with 7 of those goals.

Skyridge is the week’s biggest climber in the upper echelon, jumping two spots after dominant victories over Mountain Ridge and Olympus. This surge has placed the program on a new level of statewide respect, setting up a highly anticipated rivalry match against Lone Peak next week.

The Riverton Silverwolves continue to play a relentless style of lacrosse that has forced coaches across the state to take notice. Their undefeated record and high-scoring offense have earned them a two-spot jump into the top three, with freshman Cara Erramouspe leading the team early in the season with 4 goals in their game against Pleasant Grove.

Despite being undefeated and having played a more grueling schedule against larger classifications, Bear River actually dropped a spot this week. They remain in total control of their season, however, and will look to validate their elite status in an upcoming matchup against Ridgeline.

It was a humbling week for Mountain Ridge, which took the poll’s biggest hit by dropping three spots. While the loss to Skyridge was tough, they showed resilience with a bounce-back win over Lone Peak and remain a dangerous threat in the top five. Keep an eye out for sophomore Lucy Rigby, who is averaging more than five goals a game.

Farmington is quietly handling its business and climbing back up the rankings with a one-spot improvement. Their only losses have come against the top-ranked teams in the state, Riverton and Park City, proving they can compete with anyone. They are rebuilding after losing top players last year, but senior Lydia Judd is keeping the momentum going, with a near-perfect shot percentage of 92.9%.

It has been an uncharacteristically difficult season for the perennial powerhouse Olympus Titans, who dropped one spot this week. After tough losses to Syracuse and Skyridge, they are searching for consistency as they head into a challenging stretch against Farmington and Riverton.

The Lone Peak Knights are hanging tough in the middle of the pack, moving up one spot despite a mixed bag of results. While they have lost their last two games, they have kept the scores close, and senior Norah Lisonbee is averaging 4 points a game going into this week.

Brighton remains a bit of a mystery this year, sliding down one spot as coaches look for more data on the Bengals. While they have recorded impressive wins over Payson and Skyline, their true potential will be tested this week in matchups against Salem Hills and Bingham.

Salem Hills is living up to its name by staying “silent and deadly,” holding firm at #10 without any movement in the rankings. They’ve preferred to stay under the radar while stacking wins on the road, with an amazing victory over Cedar, where junior Maddie Gailey didn’t miss a shot, with five total goals.

Spanish Fork vs Copper Hills

In a cross-classification showdown this past Tuesday, the Copper Hills Grizzlies (3-1) hosted the Spanish Fork Dons (1-2) for a competitive St. Patrick’s Day battle. Despite a back-and-forth struggle through three quarters, the Grizzlies pulled away late for a 12-7 victory.

Copper Hills star Elise Southworth opened the scoring just minutes in, but Spanish Fork responded quickly. Well-placed goals from Ashley Peterson and Reese Larson gave the Dons a brief 2-1 lead. However, Southworth and teammate Ivy Anderson found the net to reclaim a 3-2 lead for the Grizzlies by the end of the first.

The second quarter was a mirror-match of scoring. Copper Hills’ Julie Tipton celebrated a hard-fought goal with an Irish jig, only to be answered by Peterson’s second point for the Dons. The teams traded scores—including goals from Southworth and the Dons’ Kelsie Applegarth—leaving the Grizzlies with a narrow 6-4 halftime lead.

Defense dominated the third quarter. Spanish Fork’s Alex Palmer recorded an impressive 18 saves on the day, while Copper Hills’ Ava Florez also reached double-digit saves. Despite the defensive wall, Naomi Rudd and Adia Gardner scored for the Dons, while Southworth added her sixth goal of the afternoon to keep the Grizzlies up 7-6.

The Grizzlies’ offense finally broke through in the fourth, erupting for five goals to seal the win. Addi Campbell, Tipton, and Southworth all contributed to the final surge.
