2021 Utah Lacrosse Kickoff
T-minus 6 days until Utah heads to Denver for the first game of the 2021 lacrosse season
Good morning lacrosse fans and Happy New Year! I hope you had a great holiday season. I’m going to assume if you’re reading this, you are just excited for the lacrosse to start as I am. If you’ve signed up recently, thank you, it means a lot. I’d encourage you to check out the archives. I’ve talked to some really great people about lacrosse and you may learn a thing or two from their experiences. If you are a long time reader, thank you and please forward this email to your team, fellow coaches and fans.
I’m also very excited to announce that Vessel Kitchen now sponsors the Utah Lax Report. I plan to tell the Vessel story in an upcoming podcast, so for now, be sure to check out one of their locations: 9th & 9th, Park City, Midvale or Sandy. They are owned and operated by lacrosse loving people who make excellent food.
Speaking of podcasts, you can listen to past episodes on Apple Podcasts and Spotify. I will definitely have more guests on as the season progresses.
2021, Here We Come
College
There’s a live lacrosse game this week. Let that sink in. On Saturday at noon we’ll be watching Utah take on Denver in the season opener for both squads. Both teams last game was March 7, 2020. While the Utah scheduled hasn’t been officially released yet, here are the games we do know:
@ Denver - 1/30
@ Air Force - 2/20
v. Jacksonville - 3/6
@ Mercer - 3/27
v. Robert Morris - 5/1
The Westminster Men’s and Women’s teams have released schedules. The Men’s schedule includes a trip to Alabama and Ohio/PA and a stacked RMAC slate. The Women’s schedule features 9 RMAC competitions.
I’m told MCLA/WCLA schedules will be released in the coming weeks.
High School
As schedules begin to make their way to Max Preps, it’s hard not to get excited. The first boys game is slated for Maple Mountain v. Cedar Valley (both new teams) on 3/8. The first girls game is Weber v. East, also on 3/8.
There are a handful of games in the first week to keep an eye on. On 3/9, Lone Peak hosts Park City. Many say Park City is a top team and Lone Peak added Garret Haas (Ohio State commit) in the summer. March 12 will see the most action in the opening week, including Brighton hosting rival Alta.
On the girls side, 3/9 will see Alta host Corner Canyon in the game of the week.
News & Notes
Jaimeson Meyer (Waterford), Haley Taylor (Brighton) and Utah natives Trae Ika (Loomis Chaffee) and Bodi Sutherland (Loomis Chaffee) were named to the 2021 Under Amour Senior All-America Watch List.
You know that the Utah Lax Report is a huge fan of having lacrosse in the Olympics and literally as I was about to hit send, the World Lacrosse organization released this YouTube video that talks about the strategic plan for lacrosse inclusion in the Olympics. The video features World Lacrosse Chief Executive Officer Jim Scherr and Chief Brand & Communications officer Darryl Seibel.
