Boys: Olympus Titans vs Juan Diego Soaring Eagles
A wonderful and clear March evening provided a great setting for the Olympus Titans to visit John Colosimo Stadium at Juan Diego Catholic High School for both programs' first game of the season.
Olympus Senior Kevin Clinger started the evening off strong for the Titans by getting a couple of shots past Juan Diego goaltender Cuauhtemoc Pedroza to give them a 2-0 lead. Clinger kept up the attack on the Juan Diego defense with another two goals in the second quarter.
Clinger’s scoring streak was stopped though by his teammate Chase Taylor with a shot at the end of the first half.
Juan Diego came out with some needed energy in the second half, but every time they tried to break down the Olympus defense goalie Andrew Borden shut them out. Borden ended the day with over ten saves in his first varsity start.
Olympus took the match with a final score of 7-0. Juan Diego showed a lot of toughness and pride in their first contest, they will be a team to watch this year.
Girls: Maple Mountain Golden Eagles vs Herriman Mustangs
It was a cold evening at Herriman High School for this non-region contest against Maple Mountain.
Things heated up pretty quickly once the first draw of the season took place between Herriman’s Sophie Sam and Maple Mountain’s MyaRae Pilati. Herriman’s Faith Kugler found the back of the net for the 1st goal of the 2025 season just a few minutes into the contest.
Teammate Sabrina Czipk also scored a goal to give the Mustangs a strong opening-quarter lead. Czipk had a total of four goals in the game, earning her the game’s MVP.
Maple Mountain never backed down. Teammates and seniors Auralee Sanders and Charley Gallman never let the Mustangs take complete control and each scored two goals during the game.
Herriman won the game with a final score of 12-8. No victory is complete without a strong defense. Every time the Golden Eagles would make a small run the Mustang defense led by junior goalie Macy Gibb and her 11 saves would shut them down.
An excellent evening for lacrosse!
