Exciting News from Westlake Lacrosse: Tommy Bodell Hits 1,000 Faceoffs!
We're thrilled to announce that senior midfielder Tommy Bodell has reached an impressive milestone this year by completing his 1,000th faceoff! As of April 15th, Tommy has amassed a total of 1,043 faceoffs, placing him at the forefront of faceoff counts in Utah. Tommy began his high school lacrosse journey with Westlake in 2020, and throughout his career, he has not only excelled in faceoffs but also contributed 11 goals, 16 assists, and an impressive 460 ground balls. With his outstanding performance, we're eagerly anticipating even more from Tommy as the season progresses.
Utah Coaches Poll: Top 10
No. 1 Brighton- The undefeated Bengals maintain their well-deserved position atop our coaches' poll. Recently, they showcased their prowess with a commanding 32-0 victory against West on April 10th, where 15 players from the Bengals' roster contributed at least one goal each. Following this dominant performance, the Bengals faced off against their school rivals, the Skyline Eagles, on Friday, April 12th, securing another impressive win with a 16-4 scoreline, showcasing their superiority with a 12-goal difference.
Looking ahead, Brighton is gearing up for a home game against No. 2 Olympus, who boasts a 7-1 record for the season. Brighton's stellar statistics speak for themselves, with 162 goals scored, 121 assists, 387 ground balls collected, and only 35 goals conceded throughout the season. In contrast, their opponents have recorded 106 goals, 70 assists, 315 ground balls, and 48 goals against them. Noteworthy individual performances include Gabe Carrera leading the scoring charts with 32 goals, Donovan Wismer contributing 28 assists, and Jaxon Webster leading in ground balls with 39.
No. 2 Olympus – The Titans showed their strength with a big 16-1 win over 9th-ranked Alta on April 10th. Charlie Droitsch scored an impressive 6 goals during the game. “Grey Petersen did a great job on defense, only letting Alta score once. He also made some important plays, getting the ball back for us and moving it effectively! This game helped the team learn to play better together each week! We're not perfect yet, but we're improving on offense, defense, and everywhere in between!”
Next up, Olympus faces their toughest challenge yet in Utah as they take on the top-ranked Brighton in what promises to be an intriguing matchup. Brighton boasts a flawless 10-0 record for the season. Olympus has amassed commendable statistics, with 106 goals scored, 70 assists, 315 ground balls, and 48 goals conceded. However, Brighton stands out with 162 goals scored, 121 assists, 387 ground balls collected, and only 35 goals conceded throughout the season. Olympus's standout performers include Charlie Droitsch with 24 goals, Andrew Clayton with 19 assists, and Samuel Smith with 49 ground balls.
No. 3 Davis – The Darts showcased their impressive strength in their matchup against Syracuse on April 9th, securing a commanding 28-1 victory. The entire attack line performed admirably, capitalizing on numerous fast break opportunities throughout the game. In their second match of the week against the formidable No. 4 Fremont on April 11th, the score was tighter, but the Darts emerged victorious with a score of 13-9. “Nick Johnson stood out as the player of the game, demonstrating his value to the team by excelling in goals, assists, turnovers, and possessions. He finished with 4 goals, 2 assists, 2 caused turnovers, and 4 ground balls. Fremont proved to be a formidable opponent, boasting skilled players and solid coaching. However, our team rose to the challenge and executed at a high level. We remain focused on our strengths and continue to strive for excellence in every aspect of our game.”
Up next for the Darts is Layton on April 16th. The matchup between Davis and Layton showcases some of the top athletes. For Davis, Nick Johnson leads with 11 goals and 9 assists, while Christian Kearl has secured 19 ground balls. On the Layton side, Skyler Christansen has scored 12 goals, Madden Sargent has provided 7 assists, and Kaden Gadzia has collected an impressive 43 ground balls.
No. 4 Corner Canyon – The Chargers secured two impressive victories, defeating Mountain Ridge 21-0 on April 9th and Bingham 17-9 on April 11th. William Perry, playing as a defender, was recognized as the player of the game. Meanwhile, Mitchell Phippen, serving as goalie, earned the title of MVP for their outstanding performance against Bingham.
Up next for the Chargers is a game against Copper Hills. Leading the charge for the Chargers are Oj Ika with 22 goals, 19 assists, and 28 ground balls. On the other side, the Grizzlies, with a season record of 0-8, have key players like Zayne Larsen with 9 goals, Spencer Moffitt with 3 assists, and Jayce Dalton with 35 ground balls.
No. 5 Park City – The Miners have been in two nail biting games this past week. First against Skyline April 10th winning 9-5 and Second April 12th against No. 9 Alta winning 8-4.
Next up for Minner is home game against Highland 4/24. Miners hold a 8-2 season record with their only two loses being out of state. while the Rams hold a 6-2 record with them falling to No. 8 Judge and Bingham. The Miner have top stats takers, Ian Marsland with 11 goals, Bracken Birch with 9 assists, and Reece Smith with 36 ground balls. The Rams bring their top stats takers, Kevin Clinger with 35 goal, Taveon Agnew with 13 assists, and Luke Dansie with 26 ground balls.
No. 6 Farmington – The Phoenix delivered an awe-inspiring performance in their matchup against the No. 7 Fremont on April 9th. The game extended into double overtime, with the Phoenix ultimately clinching a remarkable victory. Freshman Kia Beynon played a pivotal role, contributing 7 out of the team's 11 goals. Additionally, sophomore Brandon Barrus made an impressive 13 saves out of the 23 shots Fremont took against them. In their second game of the week on April 11th at Weber, the Phoenix secured a solid 13-6 victory.
Looking ahead, the Phoenix are gearing up for a road trip to Syracuse on April 16th. Farmington boasts standout athletes like Kai Beynon, who has scored 17 goals, Mitchel Milne with 10 assists, and Brady Wallace with 33 ground balls. On the other hand, Syracuse features players like Cole Murri with 14 goals and 8 assists, and Corban Ricks with 26 ground balls.
No. 7 Fremont – In a challenging battle, the No. 6 Farmington faced a tough loss against the Phoenix on April 9th. The game extended into double overtime, culminating in the Phoenix clinching a remarkable victory. Despite their efforts, Fremont struggled to contain freshman Kia Beynon, who played a pivotal role by contributing 7 of the Phoenix's 11 goals. Additionally, Fremont's goalkeeper, sophomore Brandon Barrus, put up a commendable performance, saving 13 out of the 23 shots taken against them. However, Fremont faced another setback in their second game of the week on April 11th against Davis, where they lost 13-9.
Looking ahead, Fremont prepares to face off against Weber on April 16th. Fremont boasts elite players like Carson Isaacson with 29 goals, Davis Searle with 29 assists, and Luke Robins with 24 ground balls. Meanwhile, Weber presents formidable opponents such as Stetson Hogge with 22 goals and 19 assists, and Cam Broadbent with 43 ground balls.
No. 8 Judge Memorial – The Bulldogs secured two commanding victories this past week, first against Hillcrest where Judge triumphed with a score of 23-2, followed by a win against No. 10 Juan Diego. Sophomore Rome Swanwick showcased his scoring prowess, netting a total of 7 goals across both games, with 4 against Hillcrest and 5 against Juan Diego.
Next up, Judge prepares to face Westlake on April 16th. With a record of 6-2, Judge looks to maintain their momentum against Westlake, who currently holds a 4-4 record. Standout performers for Judge this week include Rome Swanwick with 35 goals, Frederick Gowski with 12 assists, and Dallas Mattena with 28 ground balls. On the other side, Westlake presents formidable players such as Jagger Huscroft with 25 goals, Max Carpenter with 13 assists, and Tommy Bodell with 71 ground balls.
No. 9 Alta – The Hawks faced two tough losses this week, one against No. 2 Olympus with a score of 16-1, where Andrew Parry's relentless effort earned him the player of the game title. Despite the challenging matchup, Parry's unwavering determination showcased the team's commitment to giving their all. The key takeaway from this game was the importance of fearlessness in competition. In their second match against No. 5 Park City, resulting in an 8-4 loss, Hogan Stout emerged as the standout player, scoring 2 goals and displaying resilience until the final whistle. The lesson learned from this game emphasized the need to address small mistakes promptly, as they can have significant consequences in the outcome.
Upcoming for Alta is a game April 17th against West. Alta enters this game with star athletes, Braxton Horoba and Andrew Parry. While West bring to the field Kener Chan and Tobias Barnette.
No. 10 Juan Diego – Welcome Juan Diego to their first appearance this season in the coaches poll! The Soaring Eagles boast an impressive 6-1 record overall and are 1-1 in their region. Despite a tough loss to No. 8 Judge, falling 10-8, Juan Diego continues to showcase their competitive spirit.
Looking ahead, Juan Diego is gearing up for a home game against Jordan on April 15th. With standout players like Aidan Wigton, who has scored 24 goals, Noah Schuyler with 15 assists, and William Conley, who has collected 47 ground balls, Juan Diego is poised for success. Meanwhile, Jordan presents formidable opponents such as Nicholas Nigbur with 15 goals, Dash May with 7 assists, and Victor Reynaud with 34 ground balls.
