University of Utah: NCAA DI
The Utes wrapped up their regular season with a dominating, Senior Night performance as the Utes cruised past Queens University – Charlotte 25-8.
The first half was a half to remember. Utah had four stretches where they scored three or more goals inside of a 90-second time frame. Utah took 31 shots in the first half, with 29 of those shots being on goal. They peppered the Royals cage often, and it contributed to Utah jumping out to a 17-2 lead, with Jordan Hyde scoring 6 goals, Ryan Stines scoring 3…and that was all before half.
The second half saw Utah look to the reserves to get some playing time for their bench, and even that saw Jake Likes and Brady Grandstaff each score a pair of goals. Senior Connor Hollison made 7 saves to lead the Utah Goalies (four different goalies played for Utah) in the win.
Utah will participate in the 2024 ASUN Conference Tournament in Colorado Springs and will enjoy a first-round bye. Semi-Final action will start on Friday, May 3 at 11am, with Utah’s opponent being the winner of Cleveland State vs Bellarmine.
Westminster Griffins: NCAA D2
The Griffins were the #2 seed in the RMAC Tournament, facing CUI in the first semi-final. Even though the Griffins swept the Golden Eagles in the regular season, the Griffins were stunned in the 15-9 loss.
CUI jumped on Westminster behind a 5-1 opening quarter and expanded the lead to 11-1 at the half. Westminster came out in the second half and found their offense quickly, as they scored 5 goals in the first 6 minutes. CUI was able to settle in defensively though as the game went back and forth the rest of the way.
No Griffin scored more than 1 goal in the semi-final upset loss.
