Boys: Olympus Titans vs Judge Memorial Catholic Bulldogs
Final Score: Olympus 8 – 6 JMCHS
With one of the best views in the state for an evening lacrosse game, Hill and Hill and Utah Lacrosse Report found themselves at Judge Memorial Catholic High School for a non-region game between (7-3) 5A Olympus against (5-4) 4A Judge Memorial. Both teams have played two of the more difficult schedules in the state this season, and wanted to prove that this tough contest was preparing them for the postseason.
The Bulldogs were the first to find the back of the net just a few minutes into the game, with a sneaky shot by Freddy Gowski to take a quick 1-0 lead. Shortly after, the Titans responded with a strong shot by Gabe Gordon, his first of two on the evening. With a hint of an offensive game in the making, both defenses decided to change the tone to a more physical and aggressive defense, especially in front of the net. It wasn’t until the end of the first period that the Titans scored another, when Brigham Thompson got a shot by Bulldog goalie Conner Knight to end the first period with a 2-1 lead.
The second quarter began with a quick score by Gordon, and was the first of three unanswered points by the Titans early in the period. Thompson and James Schlendorf added the other two goals. The Titans' offense had come alive, but not enough to discourage a tough Judge team. Rome Swanwick and Dylan Hersh both snuck a shot by the Titan goalie Andrew Borden to get back in the game, and the half ended at 5-3.
The third quarter showed some good adjustments for the Titans on both sides of the ball. With Kevin Clinger firing in a couple of hot shots and teammate William Southwick getting another one by Knight, the Titans jumped to a quick five-point lead. Even though the offense put three points on the board for Olympus, it was Borden and the big boys in front of him that kept Judge off the scoreboard in the third quarter to keep Olympus’s comfortable 8-3 lead heading into the final quarter.
Comfortable, not in lacrosse. Judge still had some fight and was going to leave it all on the field. Knight shut down the Titans' offense, and the Bulldogs found the net three times, with Hersh getting his second goal of the game, along with Sean Jerome and Matt Evans adding to the final score. Great effort, but just not enough to get past a resilient Titan squad and a scoreless third quarter,r with the Titans taking the 8-6 victory.
Olympus (8-3) has games against West and region rival Skyline this week. Can Judge (5-5) bounce back with rival Juan Diego on their schedule this week?
Girls: Syracuse Titans vs Davis Darts
Final Score: Davis 12-9 Syracuse
Exciting action this week as Davis High School took on the Syracuse Titans!
Syracuse brought some intensity to the game from the very beginning. Senior Adrie Fairbanks scored her first of five goals early in the first quarter. The Darts’ Clair Coleman tied up the score at 1-1 before Fairbanks tossed in two more goals for her first quarter hat trick, giving the Titans a strong 3-1 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter was just the opposite of the first. The Dart defense focused more on slowing down Fairbanks and Davis goalie Eulolia ‘loli’ Menalga made some great point blank saves to keep the Titans to only one score in the quarter. On the offensive side, teammates Sophie Karras, Esther Facer, and Lucy Bybee added some impressive goals on the board to keep the game from getting out of control and making it a 5-4 Syracuse advantage at the half.
The second half saw a back-and-forth battle between the two teams. Syracuse started it off with a couple of goals from Nora Gull to give the Titans a quick 7-4 lead, but not command of the game. The Darts Keeley Miller and Facer added their own two goals to yet again make it a one-point game at the end of the third quarter.
The final quarter saw the Darts throw six unanswered points on the board, lead by senior captain Esther Facer with help from Karras and Sydney Plumber. The win over Syracuse was sweet for the team after a tough loss to Farmington last week.
The Darts (9-4) head up to Park City next week to take on the undefeated Miners. While the Titans (7-4) have a chance to bounce back with games against Bonneville and Layton coming up this week.

Inspirational Players of the Week
Raymie Skeen, Provo High School, attack
“Raymie is a senior captain for Provo. Raymie started the season strong, a leader and playmaker on attack. She's the kind of player that is always looking to improve, takes feedback so well, and builds her teammates up. Sadly, she tore her ACL halfway through our season, right as she was hitting her stride. Since then, Raymie has continued in her role as leader and captain even through this heartbreaking injury. She prepares game day quotes and pregame team talks, cheers witha pom pom from the sidelines during games, and is still constantly looking for ways to build and uplift her teammates. Even though the season didn't go her way, Raymie understands the importance of her role and has been an incredible example to her team of perseverance, looking for the positive through adversity, and selfless leadership.”
— Coach Megan Jensen
Sophie Grizzle, Bingham High School, midfield
“Standing at just 5-foot-2, Sophie Grizzle is a powerhouse midfielder who is redefining what it means to dominate the lacrosse field. Leading her team in assists and sitting just one goal shy of the incredible 100 career goal milestone, Sophie’s impact goes far beyond the stat sheet. She is the heart and soul of her team, a natural leader whose energy and inspiration lift everyone around her. Her blazing speed and instinct to push the ball downfield are nearly unstoppable, and her lacrosse IQ is among the most impressive her coaches have ever seen. Sophie Grizzle proves every game that greatness isn’t measured in inches — it’s measured in heart, drive, and pure talent.” — Coach Karli Auelua
Coaches Poll
In the boys’ rankings, the top four spots showed no change, with Corner Canyon, Davis, Brighton, and Park City holding strong to their current placements. However, that could change this week with a full slate of games. Alta and Olympus keep battling each other for the top 5 spots while Skyridge continues to make a climb in the polls. Up three spots this week to #7, the Falcons are no longer a secret. Farmington took a drop of three spots to #8 from last week, while Lone Peak and Judge held on to the last two spots in the top 10, with Judge dropping two spots after a big loss to Olympus this past week. The Bulldogs did bounce back and get a couple of big victories over Juan Diego and Jordan to keep them in the top 10, and just outscored undefeated Waterford and West Field. The Big Waterford vs. Judge game is on the horizon. There is a chance for the Ravens to make a statement and for the Judge to solidify its 4A rankings.
Very little movement in the girls’ poll this week as we enter week eight. The top six teams made no change within their poll placements. Park City continues to roll through their schedule while Olympus, Mountain Ridge, Farmington, and Riverton seem to have top 5 spots locked in at some level. Salem Hills continues to hold onto their spot after their first loss of the season, while the Falcons made the biggest jump in the polls this week, up to #7 from #9. Skyridge is no longer a secret down in Utah County. Bear River holds in place at the #8 spot, just continuing to rack up dominating victories up there in Tremonton/Garland land. Lone Peak and Brighton continue to round out the top 10. Again Woods Cross, Davis, and this week Provo continued to knock on the Top 10 door.
