Goalie Sets New UHSAA Record and a 100 Point Milestone for a Davis High Athlete
Plus, the latest coaches poll with some big surprises
Spring is officially here, but you wouldn’t know it by the number of games canceled last week due to snow! Here’s hoping the weather stays nice and we have some great match-ups in the days ahead.
A big congratulations is in order for Bountiful boys coach Peter Jordan, who marked 100 career wins with the team’s victory over Layton! He is one of fewer than 20 coaches in the state who can claim the honor. Other coaches who are nearing the milestone include Brad Searle of Freemont High School and Nick Merrell from Olympus High School.

Boys: Olympus vs. Corner Canyon
What a week for Utah high school lacrosse with several great matchups played. Draper, Utah hosted one of those great matchups, 5A Olympus vs. 6A Corner Canyon last Thursday evening at Charger Stadium.
The match between two of Utah’s top programs promised a great non-region contest. From the first faceoff, both defenses were bound and determined to put their mark on this game. The Olympus defense resisted several Charger attacks with goalie Andrew Borden (#0) fighting off several shots from an aggressive Corner Canyon offense.
It wasn’t until late in the first quarter that the Chargers Brock Sorenson (#10) found the back of the net for the first goal of the game. Soon after the Chargers added a second when Jagger Camache (#12) snuck one by Borden for a 2-0 lead.
The Chargers started the second quarter with three quick goals by teammates Kampton Dutton(#27), Ashton Brown (#11), and Pierson DeGracie (#23) before Olympus could get their first score on the board with Gabe Gordon (#21) finding the back of the net, then quickly added another before halftime.
The Titans started the second half with a quick goal by Gordon to cut the Chargers lead to 5-3, and it looked like we had a game on our hands. However, that was Olympus’s last goal of the day, and Corner Canyon put another six goals on the board. Dutton and Brown added a couple more with teammates Easton Daynes (#5), Max Taylor (#6), and Ren Neilson (#50) getting on the board, leading to an impressive 11-3 victory.
In all, the Chargers recorded scores from eight different athletes throughout the game, truly making it a team win. No win can be recorded without a big defensive performance and Corner Canyon’s goalie Rhett King (#16) and his wall in front of him provided just that.
Corner Canyon (4-0) will face a tough Freemont (3-1) team at home while Olympus (3-1) will try and get back into the win column against a visiting Northridge Knight (3-2) team.
Girls: Park City vs. Alta
The Park City Miners women's lacrosse team was eager to get back on the field after having two games canceled last week due to weather. They arrived at Alta High School ready to face the Alta Hawks (1-2) and kick off their season again.
Perhaps the anticipation of finally playing allowed the Park City defense, along with goalie Marcella Woolley (#22), to allow Alta’s Ella Engstrom (#8) to sneak a quick shot into the goal at the start of the game. However, that would be one of the few opportunities the Hawks would have as the Miners' defense tightened up, and the offense found its rhythm. In the first quarter alone, Park City scored nine goals.
The offensive barrage was led by freshman teammates Hadley Mulholland (#19), who scored two goals, and Natalia Szwajkun (#17), who added three. Maddie McHenry (#40), Shiva Minter (#7), Coco Crawford (#9), and Rogan Crawford (#24) also contributed goals, helping the Miners jump to a commanding 9-1 lead by the end of the first quarter—a lead that was never in jeopardy for the rest of the game.
Park City added three more goals in the second quarter and another eight in the second half, finishing with an impressive 20-3 victory. Nine different players scored for the Miners, proving that they had shaken off any rust from the canceled games.
While the Hawks managed an early score, Park City's defense quickly shut down the Alta attack. Special recognition goes to Woolley and her defenders, including Lilly Schwartz (#6), Grace Puleo (#23), and Laural Johnson (#32).
The Miners (3-0) will next face the undefeated Mountain Ridge Sentinels (6-0), while the Hawks (1-3) will host the Bingham Miners (4-3).

Corner Canyon takes the top spot after an impressive win over Olympus. They face 7th-ranked Lone Peak next week and will head to Snow Canyon shortly after. In a wild week, the Miners had a big win over Judge but fell to #5 Davis, who saw their ranking jump after an impressive win over Park City. Davis faces Woods Cross and American Fork before region play starts. Meanwhile, the Bulldogs dropped three spots after losses to Park City and Farmington, with a tough matchup against Brighton on the way.
Park City remains at #1 despite two weather-related game postponements. Farmington holds a solid 3-1 record, with their only loss to #2 Mountain Ridge, and upcoming games against Riverton and Olympus will be a challenge. The Silver Wolves made the biggest jump, rising four spots after dominant wins, while Brighton dropped two spots following a loss to Bingham but bounced back with a win over West, facing Davis and West Jordan next. Lone Peak dropped four spots due to strong performances from other teams, with upcoming games against Weber and American Fork. Riverton jumped four spots, Bingham entered the Top 10 for the first time, and Skyline fell out, though Davis remains a contender.
