Girls: Skyridge Falcons vs Lehi Pioneers
Final Score: Skyridge 12-9 Lehi
The Skyridge Falcons traveled to cross-town rival Lehi to take on the Lehi Pioneers, and it did not take long for both teams to show this was going to be a tough contest. Skyridge’s Ellie Palmer started the show with one of her four goals just 25 seconds into the game to give the Falcons a 1-0 early lead.
Lehi’s Ashlyn Atkin responded with her own quick goal 18 seconds later to tie the score at 1-1 just one minute into the game. This began a stream of goals from the Pioneers with teammates Atkins, Kylie Johnson, and Maddison Younger adding five more points on the board before the Falcons’ Sage Curtis broke the onslaught of goals against Skyridge goalie, Taylor Brims. A couple more scores from Johnson and Vee Condie, and the Pioneers took a strong 7-2 lead into the second quarter.
The second quarter showed a slowdown in offensive outcome, but not for a lack of effort, but because both goalies, Skyridge’s Taylor Brems and Lehi’s Kate Prettyman, upped their games with over 20 saves between the two guardians of the net. Big shout out to Prettyman, who blocked several point-blank shots in the second quarter and achieved a game high 15 saves to keep the Pioneers in front with an 8-5 lead going into the half.
The game was highly competitive, the crowd was pumped, and the Skyridge Falcons had seen enough. With a few adjustments from the offense and the defense stepping it up, the Falcons scored the next seven of eight goals in the second half. Skyridge’s Tessa Jamison tied the score at 8-8 while teammates Palmer, Buecher, and Curtis added five more goals in the second half, allowing the Falcons to walk away with a tough and well-deserved victory over the Pioneers.
Skyridge’s Palmer and Buechner both had hat tricks, with Buechner also adding three assists to her stat line. Lehi’s Atkin and Johnson recorded their own hat tricks to lead the Pioneers. Skyridge heads to American Fork before returning home to take on the same Lehi Pioneers team next week, while Lehi will take on Corner Canyon before the highly anticipated rematch.
Clearfield Falcons vs Viewmont Vikings
Final Score: Viewmont 11- 4 Clearfield
The Clearfield Falcons headed to Viewmont High School to take on the Vikings in a Region 5 contest this past Wednesday. We can call it a regional competition, we can call it a long-standing county rivalry, as these two schools have competed in all sports for decades, but we really need to call it what it was: a Mason Gerrard showcase.
The Viking junior scored seven of the 11 goals in Viewmont’s dominant victory over the Falcons this past Wednesday. Gerrard scored in each quarter, two in the first, three in the second, and one in each of the third and fourth quarters. Even though it was Gerrard who lit up the scoring sheet, his teammates Luke Cluff, Jack Hinton, and Brigham Shupe also added to the final tally by the end of the game.
The Vikings' offense ran like a fine-oiled machine and relentlessly attacked Clearfield’s goalies, Ethan Campbell and Brayden Sweeny, throughout the game. To add to that fury, Viking goalie Alex Elizondo and his defensive front of Gage Staples, Jake Jeppson, and Colt Salmon shut down a usually potent Falcon offense.
The Falcons didn’t find the back of the net until the third quarter when Derrick Jensen snuck one by Elizondo. With a stingy defense and an offense that was on fire, the Viking stadium was allowed to cheer the continued announcement, “Another Viking goal by Mason Gerrard”. Why not? It was both his showcase and a great performance from the Viking team.
After a really strong start, the Falcons find themselves in a tough slide. They will try and rebound with another region game against the Northridge Knights next week. While the Vikings were happy with the region victory, they will have to take on that same tough Northridge squad and then head to Salt Lake City with a game against Skyline.

Inspirational Players of the Week
Maggie Bird, Riverton High School, midfield
“Maggie is such a baller on both sides of the field. She is a consistent player that we rely on every game. She dominates on the draw circle, helping our team get over 50% draw controls in most games. Typically has a hat trick, a few assists, and a handful of caused turnovers. As coaches, we are so proud to have Maggie represent Riverton girls lacrosse. Not only is she an amazing athlete, she is a good teammate, student, and person in general. We are so proud of Maggie!” — Coach Hannah Kelleher
Boston Heaton, Snow Canyon High School, attack
“Boston Heaton, a senior and typically an attack player, exemplified true team spirit this past week. When the team’s goalie was unavailable, she fearlessly stepped into the net, having never been a goalie. The very next game, with defenders out sick, she once again volunteered—this time to play defense. Most recently, she started as a defender and played nearly the entire game without a sub. Always positive and uplifting, Boston leads by example and embodies the "we before me" mindset. She is the definition of a selfless, dedicated teammate.” — Coach Hailey Snow
Avery Snow, Brighton High School, defense
“Low defenders deserve some recognition! They might not get every stat, but we know they win games. And Avery has done just that. Avery makes a difference on every defensive play – whether in her communication, help to slide and crash, incredible eye for ground balls, or speed from a clear and quick transitions, Avery has made a huge difference on our defense this year. She’s our first player to TBS (total body sacrifice) for our team and loves lacrosse and her team with a passion that runs deep and is contagious to everyone around her. We love Avery and are grateful to have her as a captain and leader this year!” — Coach Melissa Nash
Coaches Poll
Corner Canyon holds on to the #1 spot for the fifth week in a row with a 10-1 record, against some of the state’s best programs. Davis is breathing right down the Chargers’ necks with their own undefeated 9-0 season. Alta took a small drop in the rankings, but is still holding on to a strong #6. Olympus and Judge, along with Lone Peak and Skyridge, seem to be playing hopscotch with each other by just shifting spots again this week.
Undefeated Waterford and West Field made some noise in the voting this week, but still haven’t cracked the top ten. These are two very good 4A schools that could face off against each other come playoff time. All schools are back in session from spring break, and we are entering the back half of a great season.
Park City is entrenched in that #1 spot for the girls’ Top 10. The almost perfect record keeps them on top of the rankings for the sixth week in a row. Olympus and Mountain Ridge shifted spots at #2 and #3, again, keeping the pressure on the Miners.
Mountain Ridge needs to keep an eye over their shoulder as well, with a reemerging and #5 ranked Riverton squad who took a two-step jump in the poles. Unexplainably, the Bear River Bears dropped two spots after a good week, especially a commanding win over a strong 5A Viewmont team. Skyridge and Lone Peak switched spaces with the Falcons continuing to make small steps up the poll each week. Their rematch in May is going to be exciting and have a lot of implications for the final seeding for the 6A tournament. Keep an eye on this rivalry.
Davis, Bingham, and Woods Cross were all programs knocking on that Top 10 door this week. Playoffs are just around the corner; this is getting fun. Thank you to all the coaches who contributed votes to the Utah Lax Report Week 6 Coaches Poll. Keep it up, we need your insights!
