Hello, Utah Lacrosse! This past week was a bit slow, with more than half of the state enjoying spring break. Nevertheless, we're here to provide you with a recap of the Lacrosse on Ice event, the latest Coaches Poll, Shoutout to West Jordans game against Waterford and college updates. Let's dive in!

Lacrosse Hockey: AKA Lacrosse on Ice
Tribal West hosted the inaugural Lacrosse on Ice event, blending the skills of hockey and lacrosse to create an exciting and unique experience. Owner Fish shared his thoughts on the turnout, expressing, "It was so much fun. We had young kids, high school kids from both lacrosse and hockey backgrounds, and even our old guys were out there just for a good time. Everyone who played would wholeheartedly want to do it again." Tribal is already looking forward to hosting more Lacrosse Hockey events in the future.
Utah Coaches Poll
No. 1 Brighton – The Bengals maintain their reign at the top of the rankings for another thrilling week! After a well-deserved spring break last week, the Bengal Boys are back in action, ready to conquer the lacrosse field once more! With an impressive 8-0 record, they're gearing up to face off against West on April 10th and Skyline on April 12th. The anticipation is palpable as fans eagerly await their return to the game. Not only are they dominating the Utah Coaches Poll, but they also hold the coveted top spot in the MaxPreps UT Rankings. It's clear that the Bengals are a force to be reckoned with, and their upcoming games are sure to be nothing short of exhilarating!
Coming up next, Brighton will be facing off against West on April 10th. Leading the charge for Brighton is student-athlete Gabe Carrera (So) with an impressive 24 goals, supported by Austin Taylor (Jr) who has contributed 20 assists, and Jaxon Webster (Jr) who has secured 27 ground balls. Turning our attention to the West, key players include Kener Chan (Sr) with 2 goals, Tobias Barnette (Sr) with 1 assist, and 50 ground balls. It's shaping up to be an exciting matchup between these talented teams.
No. 2 Olympus – The Titans stay comfortable in second place with no movement this week in the coaches poll. In an exciting game in Greenwood Village, Colorado, the Titans faced their first loss against a tough team called Cherry Creek, ranked No. 42 in the nation. The score was 12-8, but the Titans didn't let it get them down. They came back stronger in Aurora, Colorado, and won a super close game against Cherokee Trail with a score of 10-8. Two seniors, Andrew Clayton and Samuel Smith, were awesome in the games. Clayton scored four goals, and Smith grabbed nine ground balls! Even though they had a tough loss, the Titans showed they were strong and determined, proving they could handle any challenge on the field.
Next up the Titans take on the No. 8 Alta Hawks April 10th. Spearheading Olympus in stats is Andrew Clayton (Sr) with 16 Goals and 15 Assists and Samuel Smith (Sr) with 35 Ground Balls. Swinging our eye over to Alta their leaders are Braxton Horoba (Jr) with 17 Goals and 14 Assists and Andrew Parry (Sr) with 31 Ground Balls.
No. 3 Corner Canyon – The Chargers remain as steady as a rock in this week's coaches' poll, showing no signs of budging. But brace yourselves because they're gearing up for an epic comeback after their break.
The upcoming matchup for Corner Canyon are against Mountain Ridge on April 9th. Corner Canyon charges into these games with star players like Oj Ika (Fr), who boasts 8 goals and 10 assists, along with Easton Daynes (Jr) who has secured 12 ground balls. Shifting focus to Mountain Ridge, they enter the game with players like Austin Brundage (So) who has scored 7 goals, Kade Pearce (Jr) with 2 assists, and Bryce Poulsen (Sr) who has grabbed 10 ground balls. It's gearing up to be an exhilarating matchup with talent on both sides of the field.
No. 4 Park City – This week, the Miners have climbed up two spots in the Coaches Poll, showing their growing strength. Their victory over Bingham on April 4th, with a score of 11-5, showcased their skill and determination. Park City's players were on fire, with Reece Smith (Jr) leading the scoring with 2 goals and 1 assist, and Tommy Davis (So) and Wade Birch (So) each adding a goal. Defensively, players like Garrett Hebert (Sr), Vince Billanti (Jr), and L. VanValkenburgh (Sr) showed their prowess in stopping the opposing team's advances and securing ground balls. In the faceoff department, Tommy Davis (So) and Becker Ruzek (Jr) dominated, winning 4 and 6 faceoffs respectively. Their goalie, though unnamed, faced 15 shots, saving an impressive 10, and keeping a goals-against average of 5.0. Together, Park City's players displayed great teamwork and individual skills on the lacrosse field.
Next on the schedule is a showdown against Skyline on April 10th. As the players take the field, we anticipate an intense matchup between the star athletes of both teams. Representing Park City, we have standout players like Billy Alnwick (Jr) with 8 goals, Bracken Birch (Sr) with 8 assists, and Reece Smith (Jr) with an impressive 29 ground balls. On the Skyline side, keep an eye out for Zach Sasich (Sr) with 9 goals, Paddy McNally (Sr) with 9 assists, and AJ Moffat (Jr) with 21 ground balls. It's shaping up to be an exciting game with talent on both ends of the field.
No. 5 Davis – The Darts have slipped down one spot in this week's coaches poll, but they're more determined than ever as they return from spring break to face off against Syracuse on April 9th. Leading the lineup for the Darts, who boast an impressive 4-1 record overall, is star player Nike Johnson (Sr) with an outstanding 10 goals and 8 assists, alongside Carter Sant (Jr) who's secured 17 ground balls. On the Syracuse side, with an overall record of 2-5, Cole Murri (Jr) has made his mark with 14 goals and 8 assists, while Corban Ricks (So) has shown his prowess with an impressive 26 ground balls. It's bound to be an exciting matchup between these skilled players, and fans are eagerly anticipating the showdown on the field.
No. 6 Fremont – After enjoying their spring break, the Silverwolves are getting ready to play against No. 9 Farmington on April 9th. Let's look at the top players on both teams. No. 7 Judge Memorial – The Bulldogs bounce back from their break and are gearing up to face Hillcrest on April 10th. Judge brings some key players to the table, including Rome Swanwick (Jr) with 26 goals, Frederick Gowski (So) with 11 assists, and Dallas Mattena (So) with 18 ground balls. On the other side, Hillcrest counts on Ivan Pearson (So) with 2 goals and 2 assists, and J. Wyatt Christensen (Fr) with 14 ground balls. It's shaping up to be an exciting matchup between these teams!
No. 8 Alta – Alta had a fantastic run with two undefeated games in California on April 2nd and 3rd. They secured a 7-5 victory against St. Augustine, with Braxton Horoba (Jr) leading the charge with 3 goals and 2 ground balls. Then, they clinched a tight 7-6 win over Poway, with Cole Lyman (Jr) contributing 3 goals to the scoreboard.
Next up for Alta is a showdown against No. 2 Olympus on April 4th. No. 9 Farmington – After their spring break, the Phoenix are getting back into action. Farmington will be taking on No. 6 Fremont on April 9th. Looking at the top players on both teams, Farmington's stats might seem a bit lower compared to Fremont, but it's important to note that Farmington has played 5 games while Fremont has played 9. That definitely makes a difference. For Farmington, leaders include Mitchel Milne (Jr) with 11 goals, Kai Leavitt (Sr) with 8 assists, and Brady Wallace (Sr) with 22 ground balls. On the other hand, Fremont's key players are Carson Isaacson (Sr) with 29 goals, Davis Searle (Sr) with 29 assists, and Luke Robins (Sr) with 24 ground balls. No. 10 Skyridge – Joining our coaches' poll for the first time is the Falcons, who have been a force to reckon with in all seven of their games so far. Their only loss came at the hands of Juan Diego, with a narrow margin of just one goal.
Skyridge is set to face off against Viewmont on April 8th. Leading the charge for Skyridge are stats leaders Dawson Yates (Sr) with an impressive 28 goals, Cabell Buechner (So) with 14 assists, and 50 ground balls. Meanwhile, for Viewmont, Samuel Terreros (Sr) leads with 21 goals, Nathan Delgado (Sr) with 15 assists, and Mason Gerrard (So) with 50 ground balls. It's sure to be an exciting matchup between these talented teams!
No. 1 Park City – The Park City Miners hold their 3-1 record from last week, snagging the number one spot today in the weekly Coaches’ Poll, starting this week up a position. There was a bit of a lull on the field as there were no lady Miner games last week, but fear not, for they are gearing up for an action-packed week ahead! They'll be heading off to the land of sunshine and palm trees (California) next weekend to kick off their spring break, where they will put their skills to the test against three California based teams, but not before playing East today (4/8) and Skyline on Wednesday (4/10), both away games.
No. 2 Olympus – Although they've slipped to #2 this week in the Coaches’ Poll, Coach Zana Spratling leads the Olympus Titans on the turf with an impressive 4-1 record. Despite no games this past week because they were on spring break, they're holding onto their victories as they enter this next week back! They’re diving straight into it with an away region game against Alta on Tuesday 4/9 at 7 pm. Get ready to cheer on your lady Titans!
No. 3 Mountain Ridge – Holding strong for the 5th week in a row as number 3 for the coaches' poll, the Mountain Ridge Sentinels start this week with a 6-2 record. They kicked off last week victorious against the Herriman Mustangs with a win in overtime (10-9) on Tuesday. Coach Maughan names three MVPs of the game explaining how “they were all determined and hungry for the ball the entire game”: Emmery Clark (#32), Brielle Fabert (#24) and Taylie Anderson (#14). Clark locked in 5 goals, 7 GBs and 1 CT, Fabert had 5 CTs with 4 GBs and Anderson had the energy that kept the Sentinels going through a game with 1 assist and 3 GBs. Mauhan reflects on the game expressing how “Herriman showed up and gave [them] a well fought game!! Going into overtime with two down [they] knew [they] had to get possession off the draw and were able to get possession and hold it until the cards were released. Emmery scored the winning goal by beating her defender on the crease roll!”
Then, Mountain Ridge secured their second win at home on Thursday (4/4) against Bingham (17-7). Junior captain Taya Chalk (#57) took charge of the scoreboard with an impressive 5 goals and 1 assist, while junior Olivia Cannon (#25) and Kimber Hanks (#4) each contributed 3 goals to the team's win. Senior captain Emmery Clark (#32) had a great offensive game with 1 goal and an impressive 4 assists. On the defensive end, goalie Bailey Sanders (#27) stood tall with a remarkable 55% save rate, accompanied by 3 GBs and 1 CT. Olivia Cannon led the charge with 4 caused turnovers, followed closely by Zaidy Rojas (#23) with 3, and Brielle Fabert (#24) with 2, solidifying the team's defensive. Ultimately, junior Kimber Hanks was named MVP of the Bingham Miners game bringing in personal stats of 3 goals, 1 assist, 6 GBs, 1 CT and impressive 75% shot percentage. Coach Maughan explains, “After having such a close call against Herriman, the whole team came back determined than ever. They worked hard, fighting for the ball all over the field, and came together as a unit, connecting all over the field!”

No. 4 Woods Cross –Woods Cross is climbing the ranks with an undefeated record (6-0) taking #4 this week in the Coaches’ Poll, showing they're a force to be reckoned with. While they were soaking up the sun on spring break last week, the team's winning streak remains unscathed, but Coach McKenzie Christiansen is gearing them up for a strong week back. They're hitting the road for an away game against Northridge in Layton on Wednesday (4/10) at 5:30 pm, aiming to maintain their spotless record.
No. 5 Brighton – Under the guidance of Head Coach Melissa Nash, the Brighton Bengals are holding strong with a 3-2 record, though they've taken a slight dip in the rankings, now sitting at number 5 this week in the Coaches’ Poll. Despite a week without games due to a well-deserved spring break, the Bengals are ready to bounce back with renewed energy. As they return to the field this week, the Bengals will be hosting West on Wednesday (4/10) at 7:30 pm on home turf. Expect the Bengals to come roaring back, hungry for the rest of the season!
No. 6 Bingham – Holding steady at the 6th position in the weekly Coaches’ Poll, the Bingham Miners charge forward with a 4-3 record as they start this next week of the season. Despite a tough loss against Mountain Ridge (7-17), the Miners showcased their grit and teamwork. Their seven goals were a distributed scoring effort; Sophie Curtis (#3) led the charge with 3 goals, Chloe Anderson (#14) and Sara Nielsen (#19) each making one, and Brenna Miller (#21) finding the back of the net twice. The team hustled collectively with 24 ground balls, but Coach Courtney McCabe named junior midfielder Megan Tew (#2) MVP, coming away with 3 ground balls and an impressive display of skill. Ready to bounce back stronger, the Miners will play Riverton on Tuesday (4/9) at home for a 5:30 pm game.
No. 7 Riverton – With a flawless 5-0 record, the Silverwolves are propelled to the number 7 spot this week, climbing three positions since last week. Their only game last week was against the Wasatch Wasps at home on Thursday (4/) ended in a 16-4 victory, with Coach Dorton praising the team's defense, resulting in two shutout quarters during the 2nd and 3rd. Senior Bella Butterfield (#1) emerged as the MVP, showcasing her versatility with 3 goals, 2 assists, 2 GBs, and 2 CTs. As they gear up for their next game against Bingham on Tuesday at 5:30 pm, the Silverwolves are ready to take on the challenge of maintaining their undefeated record.
No. 8 Farmington – Securing their spot at number 8 in the rankings of the weekly Coaches’ Poll for yet another week holding steady with a 3-3 record, Farmington is ready to start this next week strong. Despite a brief hiatus for spring break resulting in no recent games in the past week, they will kick off their return from vacation away against Fremont on Tuesday (4/9) at 5:15 pm.
No. 9 Fremont – Under the guidance of Head Coach Seth Jones, they're tearing up the turf with an impressive 6-1 record, earning them a spot at number 9 in this week’s Coaches’ Poll. After a week off on spring break, they're gearing up for the next half of the season, starting with their game against Farmington at home on Tuesday at 5:15 pm. Get ready to watch Fremont defend their turf and keep their winning record!
No. 10 Herriman – Welcome back to the top ten of the Coaches’ Poll, Mustangs! Herriman starts this next week of the season at the 10th position of the weekly poll and 3-3 record. The lady Mustangs faced Mountain Ridge at home on Tuesday (4/2), falling short with a close 9-10 loss in overtime, having scored 3 goals in the first half and ending with 6 goals in the second half. They showcased their team talent with 16 GBs and 2 CTs, with senior goalies AT Lucero (#47) and Kaelyn Hart (#50) sharing time between the pipes during the game. Senior Zee Smith (#16) found the back of the goal 3 times and senior Shelby Ulibarri (#30) ending the game with 4 goals for Herriman. Their offensive teammates sophomore Sophie Sam (#24) and senior Ava Moore (#40) both scoring one goal each before the end of the 4th quarter. Good luck this week on the road against Copper Hills on Tuesday (4/9), Mustangs!

West Jordan vs Waterford
On April 2nd, the West Jordan Jaguars dominated the Waterford Ravens' turf with a commanding 10-point lead, winning 14-4. In the match standout players emerged on both sides. For West Jordan, seniors A. Henderson and Lily Henderson, along with junior Kayli Ballif, played key roles in their victory. A. Henderson scored 4 goals with 2 assists, Lily Henderson scored 4 goals, and Ballif contributed 2 goals and 1 assist. On the Waterford team, senior Anja Rauscher stood out with 2 goals, supported by senior Gia Weaver with 1 goal. Defensively, players like Lily Henderson and A. Henderson from West Jordan, and junior Anne Howard from Waterford showcased strong performances.
Men’s College Lacrosse
Utah Utes: NCAA Division I
On a windy, cold Friday night at Ute Field, with a mix of rain and hail, it was blistering Utah start that helped set the tone for the Utes. Utah took an impressive 19 shots in the first quarter, 11 on goal as they jumped out to a 4-1 lead on the visiting Robert Morris Colonials. Robert Morris had a strong start to the second quarter, as they pulled even at 5-5 before Jared Andreala, Freddie DiMarzo pushed Utah to a 7-5 lead at the half.
Utah continued their dominating second half play as the Utes pulled away, outscoring RMU 7-1 as they cruised to a 14-6 win. Jared Andreala finished with a game-high 5 goals, as Hyde, Stines and Bradbury each added a pair for Utah. The Utah man-up offense netted a pair of goals as well, and keeper Colin Lenskold finished with a .538 save percentage.
Utah has won three straight to improve to 6-4, 4-1 in the ASUN. The Utes head back to the road with two games this week, @ Lindenwood Wednesday, and @ Mercer on Friday.
Westminster Griffins: NCAA Division II
Westminster hosted Concordia University Irvine on Sunday at Dumke Field. The Griffins jumped out to a 11-5 lead at the half as they would cruise to an 18-6 win. Merritt McMahon had 6 goals, and 8 points to lead the Griffin offense, while Christian Jones finished with 16 saves.
CUI had a couple early goals, matching Westminster at 2-2 about midway through the first period, but the Griffins would score six unanswered to build a lead they would never relinquish. One of the few areas where Westminster did not dominate was the faceoff, where they only won 9 battles.
Westminster is now 8-2, 4-1 in the RMAC. They’ll host Senior Day this Saturday, April 13 when they host Colorado Mesa in a rematch at 1pm at Dumke Field. Westminster lost to CMU 13-12 earlier this season, the only conference loss for Westminster this season.
MCLA Action
Division I
#1 BYU had an off week as they prepare for a big conference road trip this week.
BYU will be @ #11 Colorado on Thursday, April 11, and then @ #23 Colorado State on Saturday, April 13.
Utah had a busy week this week with three home games. On Monday the Utes defeated Utah Tech 15-11. Four Utah players scored at least three goals (Douglis, Warme, Allan and Burhmann) while Sam Allan saved 59% of shots in the Utah win. Over the weekend Utah then fell to #23 Colorado State 28-7 and to #11 Colorado 15-7. The Utes are now 1-2 in RMLC.
Utah will have a bye week this week.
#5 Utah Valley had a bye week this week
UVU will be @ #23 Colorado State on Thursday, April 11 and then @ #11 Colorado on Saturday, April 13.
Division II
#17 Utah State completed their home slate this last week, hosting Wyoming on Saturday. The Aggies dominated the Cowboys 18-3 to improve to 2-1 in RMLC standings. Cooper Williams had 5 goals and a season-high 4 assists in the win.
Utah State will wrap up their regular season this week, in Idaho, playing #11 Northwest Nazarene and #21 Western Washington.
Women’s College Lacrosse
Westminster: NCAA Division II
In a close game against the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs (UCCS), the Westminster Griffins Women's Lacrosse team emerged victorious in a thrilling showdown. With snow falling and tension rising, the score was tied at 8 in the final moments. Brielle Fannin of UCCS managed to score, tying the game with just 1 minute and 40 seconds left. However, Ceila Fidanza of the Griffins stepped up, scoring the game-winning goal just before time ran out, securing a 9-8 victory for Westminster.
Shaina Shoughro led the Griffins with three important goals, while Jordan Williamson and Hannah Kelleher each added two goals of their own. Even though the Griffins were down 6-4 in the third quarter, they fought back with determination, scoring three consecutive goals to take the lead and win the game. Now, the Griffins are looking forward to their next game against Regis University, aiming to continue their winning streak and make their fans proud once again.
In an exciting Sunday afternoon game, the Westminster University Women's Lacrosse team faced off against the #7 ranked Rangers of Regis University. Despite their best efforts, the Griffins couldn't overcome the strong Rangers and lost 17-12 at Dumke Field in Utah. It was a tough match for Westminster, as they trailed by nine goals and couldn't score in the third quarter. However, they showed great determination in the final quarter, scoring six goals in a row. Even though players like Olivia Petrosky, Jordan Williamson, Hannah Kellenher, Maddie Kelenher, and Shaina Shoughro scored, Westminster couldn't catch up to the Rangers, who added two more goals to secure the win.
Shoughro and Petrosky played well for Westminster, each scoring three goals. They showed the team's spirit and never-give-up attitude. Now, Westminster is focusing on their next game against Colorado State University Pueblo. They are determined to learn from this loss and come back stronger in their upcoming matches.

Utah State vs BYU
What an intense lacrosse match! The game ended in a thrilling victory for Utah State with a final score of 12-11. The game was evenly matched throughout, with both teams showing great determination and skill.
Key players for Utah State made significant contributions to their team's success. Lyndsie Thacker led the scoring charge with an impressive 4 goals and 2 assists, while Mary Jane Arrowood provided valuable support with 3 assists. Other standout performances came from Sidney Webb, Graysen Ellsworth, and Lauren Siri, who each contributed important goals to secure the win.
The match showcased intense competition and impressive displays of athleticism from both sides. Utah State's defense, led by goalie Elizabeth Fuller, played a crucial role in securing the narrow victory. With this win under their belts, Utah State University Runners celebrated a hard-fought triumph on the lacrosse field.
