Skyridge Soars in Both Coaches Polls, Utah Bests Marquette, Westminster Women Go 2-0
Plus, recaps from Bear River @ Davis girls and Payson @ Bingham boys.
Week 2 of the high school season was another great week that didn’t disappoint! Including my daughters games on Saturday, I was fortunate enough to get to 8 games. I had some really great conversations with people who care about the health of the sport in our state. It’s not lost on me that I occupy a unique role in our community so when people want to chat, I listen and hope to offer the best advice I can with the limited knowledge I have.
I’m grateful I was able to catch up with some great people in our sport: Justin Rigby, Kevin Wallace, Drew Gutierrez, Chris O’Donnell, Joe Sokolowski and the entire Judge staff including my new friend Ketch. I’m grateful for Virginia Gowski who, when breaking down the Judge v. West Field game, properly described a hitch dodge to which I smiled asked if she wanted to do commentating on a future livestream! She also had some killer homemade lemon cookies after the game for both teams. I enjoyed watching the first half of the Judge v. Brighton game with Brad Lavoie and the insight he brings to a conversation. After the game, I ran into Jay Fairman and Brent Bateman. Brent was the parent rep at Highland when I played there. We chatted about the good ol’ days and the neighborhood.
Finally, I’m grateful for the chat with Drew McMinn as we watched his daughter score a couple goals on mine and my daughter stuff a couple of his daughters shots in a classic 5/6 grade matchup. It was the rare Saturday where Utah wasn’t in action. We have spent a lot of Saturdays together so it was fitting we found ourselves together again on a Saturday.
Enough with the sideline chatter, let’s get the games!

On Wednesday, Utah picked up its fifth win of the season with a 16-7 win over Marquette in Wisconsin. It was a close game in the first half with both teams scoring two goals at a time, leading to a 4-4 game early in the second quarter. Utah attackman Ryan Stines then scored a goal with his back to the goal after coming from X, seeing where the goalie was then posting up against his defender and slinging it over his shoulder to give the Utes the lead and ignite the bench. Marquette answered to tie the game at 5 then Utah went on a 9-0 run beginning in the second quarter and ending at the 11:48 mark in the fourth. Both teams would score two more goals. To give Utah the 16-7 win. Stines finished with 4 goals and 2 assists while Luke McNamara had 5 goals. Nathan Chalmers had 2 goals and 2 assists. Zach White finished with 2 goals and an assist. Nikko DiPonio had 11 ground balls and Mikey Crane finished with 3 caused turnovers. Colin Lenskold had 11 saves in the win.
Also on Wednesday, No. 1 UVU took on No. 4 UCSB in Santa Barbara, California. The Wolverines strong second quarter where they scored 5 goals and allowed 0 was the difference in the otherwise neck-and-neck game. Porter Searle had 3 goals and an assist to lead UVU. Blake Yates, Cam Rossi and Jacob Lundin both finished with 3 points. Lundin went 17 of 23 from the faceoff X. Jack Baird had 4 caused turnovers and goalie Patrick Thomas had 23 saves.

Westminster opened its home schedule with a masterclass in composure, securing back-to-back 12–11 victories.
Friday’s opener against UCCS was highlighted by Olivia Petrosky’s offense strategy, as she racked up five goals to lead the charge. While the attack flourished, the defense provided the weekend’s most historic moment; Marianna Dick cemented her place in the record books by surpassing 100 career caused turnovers and ground balls. Despite a late surge from the Mountain Lions, the Griffins’ disciplined clearing and selfless playmaking—anchored by Ava Deakins’ four assists—allowed them to hold firm for their first conference win.
The momentum carried into Sunday’s battle against Regis, where the Griffins showcased their depth to overcome a mid-game deficit. After a dominant opening run was answered by a relentless Rangers rally, Westminster leaned on a balanced scoring effort from Shaina Shoughro and Jessie Giacomazzi, while Deakins shifted from distributor to finisher with four goals of her own. The turning point came in the second half, as Kaitlyn Parish took over in goal and stifled the Regis attack, allowing only three goals over the final thirty minutes. By navigating two identical one-goal margins in 48 hours, the Griffins improved to 3-2 overall and proved they have the veteran grit necessary to win when the pressure is highest.
In other play this weekend, BYU and SUU faced off in Provo on Saturday. The Cougs took the win 21-0. We still have faith in the T-Birds though!

Boys’ Week 2 Coaches Poll
The 2026 boys’ season is now a high-speed chase for the top, with this week’s poll reflecting a dramatic reshuffle at the very summit. The coaches’ votes are split across several top-tier programs, proving that no single team has a definitive lock on the state title just yet.
There are still six teams getting first place votes and most of them play each other in the next few weeks.
Brighton takes the top spot with just five first place votes, but enough coaches had them high enough on their ballots to earn the first place spot. The Bengals beat No. 4 Judge on Friday, 13-11. It was a great back and forth affair in the first half with Brighton taking a 7-6 lead into halftime. Brighton won the third quarter, 4-1, which game them a 11-7 buffer heading into the final frame. Late in the game, Judge was down by 4 and scored two quick goals but it wasn’t enough as Brighton held on. Zac Anderson had 5 goals and 1 assist while Dylan Despain had 4 goals and 2 assists for Brighton. Bengal defenseman Nash Hales had 2 ground balls and 3 takeaways. The next four games for Brighton feature a solid Wasatch squad on Wednesday, No. 6 Corner Canyon on Friday, No. 7 Farmington on March 24 and No. 2 Park City on April 3. The Corner Canyon v. Brighton game will be streamed live on kslsports.com/watch.
Park City hosted Bountiful on Friday and came away with a commanding 16-5 win. The Miners are also in the heart of a tough stretch of games as they head to No. 9 Alta on Wednesday, No. 10 Davis on Friday then head to Colorado next week to take on Cherry Creek and Valor Christian.
Skyridge continued its Southern California on Monday with a 20-5 win over St. Augustine. On Friday, the Falcons bested Riverton, 15-5. Carson Butterfield had 5 goals while Freshman Kaiden Hobbs notched 2 goals and 3 assists. Dylan Forsgren and Cabell Buechner each had 4 points for Skyridge. Spencer Boyd had 17 saves.
Judge Memorial opened its season against West Field on Tuesday and won 7-6. The Bulldogs then fell to Brighton on Friday, 13-11. Judge will square off with No. 5 Juan Diego on St. Patrick’s Day. That game will streamed live on kslsports.com/watch. Judge will host No. 9 Alta on Friday.
All eyes were on Juan Diego this week after knocking off Corner Canyon in Week 1. The Soaring Eagle beat East on Wednesday in a wild game. Juan Diego led 14-4 at halftime. East then scored 8 goals in the fourth quarter en route to a 17-16 victory for Juan Diego. Noah Schuyler had 5 goals and 2 assists while Trey Nicolodemos had 1 goal and 6 assists. On Friday, Juan Diego beat Ridgeline, 17-5. Schuyler had 5 goals and 4 assists. Parker Stolz finished with 4 goals and 2 assists. The Soaring Eagle will host No. 4 Judge on Tuesday (see above) and Timpanogos on Friday.
Corner Canyon beat Herriman on Friday, 21-10. Pierson Degracie had 3 goals and 6 assists. Ashton Brown had 3 goals and 3 assists. The Chargers will head to No. 7 Farmington on Tuesday then No. 1 Brighton on Friday.
Farmington beat up on Fremont, 21-4, and Woods Cross, 25-1. The Phoenix had 11 players get a point against the Silverwolves and 12 against Woods Cross. Farmington hosts No. 6 Corner Canyon on Tuesday and then heads to Northridge on Friday.
Olympus headed to Southern California and lost to Los Alamitos, 11-8, then beat San Clemente, 16-4. The Titans head to Herriman on Wednesday then host No. 3 Skyridge on Friday.
Alta beat Salem Hills, 15-1, then edged West Field, 8-6, on Friday. Three Hawks had three points against West Field: Trevor Goins, Beckham Horoba and JJ Massi. The Hawks host No. 2 Park City on Wednesday then head to No. 4 Judge on Friday.
Davis beat Woods Cross, 9-7 on Tuesday then beat Cedar Valley, 13-2 on Friday. Bennett Kearl, Asher Jones and Deven Wood had 4 points each against the Aviators.
Other games we’ll have an eye on this week will be Maple Mountain at Waterford on Monday. It’s the season opener for the Ravens. The Poudre School District from Fort Collins, Colorado is coming to Utah to take on Herriman and Mountain Ridge. Bingham at Bountiful on Tuesday could be a sneaky good game.
Boys Spotlight Game of the Week by Hill and Hill Photography

Payson @ Bingham - The Payson Lions traveled north to face the Bingham Miners in a mid-season matchup that promised offensive firepower and defensive grit.
The first half belonged to the goalkeepers. Bingham’s TJ Edman and Payson’s Talon Hardy—who recorded an impressive 19 saves between them—dominated the field. Payson struck first with a goal from Scott Rasmussen at the 10:25 mark, but Bingham’s Champ Carlson quickly evened the score. After a flurry of deflections and saved shots, Payson’s Kason Huntington managed to sneak one past Edman in the second quarter, sending the Lions into halftime with a narrow 2-1 lead.
In the second half, the offenses found their rhythm. The third quarter became a rapid-fire exchange; after Tyson Rowley extended the Payson lead, Bingham’s Carlson and Krew Smith surged back to take a 4-3 lead. Not to be outdone, Rasmussen completed a hat trick for the Lions to reclaim a 5-4 advantage heading into the final frame.
The fourth quarter mirrored a game of leapfrog. Bingham’s Ethan Alldredge and Parker Young reclaimed the lead, only for Payson’s Austin Ewill to tie it. The teams traded goals once more until the 3:57 mark when Tyson Rowley knotted the score at 7-7. The tension held until the final minute when Champ Carlson found the back of the net with just 35 seconds remaining. A final desperate attempt by the Lions fell short, leaving the Miners with a hard-fought 8-7 victory.
Payson looks to rebound as they host the Jordan Beetdiggers next week, while Bingham prepares for a tough road test against the Bountiful Redhawks.

Girls’ Week 2 Coaches Poll
The 2026 season is heating up as the Week #2 coaches’ poll reflects a mix of dominant consistency and significant shifts across the top ten. While the top tier remains firm, the middle of the pack is seeing intense movement as teams test their mettle against cross-classification rivals.
Park City continues its reign at the top for the third consecutive week, anchored by 14 first-place votes. The Miners host Green Canyon then head to Maple Mountain and No. 7 Farmington this week.
Hot on their heels is Mountain Ridge, which holds a firm grip on the No. 2 spot and the title of the top 6A program. The Sentinels beat No. 10 Salem Hills, 14-5, and No. 8 Brighton, 16-6. Tuesday will be a great measuring stick for Mountain Ridge as they head on the road to take on No. 4 Skyridge. On Thursday, they’ll host No. 9 Lone Peak in the annual ‘Community Day’. The boys team will also play Lone Peak after in a double-header.
Perhaps the most impressive run belongs to Bear River, currently sitting at a perfect 5-0 record. The Bears have handled two 6A programs with ease, earning widespread respect from coaches across the state as they prove they can compete with any program regardless of classification. The Bears defense is allowing just 3.2 goals per game. The lone game for the Bears this week will be at Skyline on Friday.
The biggest story of the week is the surge from Skyridge, which jumped three spots into the No. 4 position. The Falcons will have a challenging week starting on Tuesday against No. 2 Mountain Ridge. Skyridge heads to Springville on Wednesday then hosts No. 6 Olympus on Friday.
The Skyridge leap forced a slight slide for Riverton, Olympus, and Farmington, despite Riverton securing a notable win over the Phoenix recently. Meanwhile, Lone Peak is quietly climbing back up after a previous dip, sitting at 3-0 with a challenging schedule against No. 4 Skyridge and No. 2 Mountain Ridge on the horizon. As region play begins to intensify, the competition in 6A Region 3 is looking particularly fierce, promising plenty of high-stakes action in the weeks to come.
Girls Spotlight Game of the Week by Hill and Hill Photography

Bear River @ Davis - The 4A Bear River Bears traveled to Kaysville to challenge the 6A Davis Darts in a highly anticipated cross-classification matchup. Coming off a dominant start to the season with 20+ goals in each of their first three games, the Bears were eager to test their high-powered offense against the perennially strong Darts.
Davis struck first at the 5:34 mark with a goal from Kallista Wright, but the Bears—unused to playing from behind—responded immediately. Following a successful draw by Brooklyn Breil, Emma Kierstead dodged through the Darts’ defense to knot the score at 1-1 to end the period.
Bear River asserted its dominance in the second quarter, showcasing the skill that has earned it four consecutive 4A state titles. Led by two goals from Breil and additional strikes from Jenny Webb, Ella Criddle, and Mollie Call, the Bears surged ahead with five unanswered points. Meanwhile, goalie Tristan Smart and the Bear River defense held the Darts scoreless, heading into halftime with a 6-1 lead.
Davis remained resilient in the third quarter, with their defense impressively limiting the state’s highest-scoring team to just two goals in the period. Kierstead opened the half with her second goal, but Davis’s Grace Chapman responded quickly to keep the Darts in the hunt. Mollie Call added another to her total, bringing the score to 8-2 as the final frame approached.
The constant offensive pressure eventually took its toll in the fourth quarter. Bear River pulled away with five final goals, while Davis managed one more to bring the final score to 13-3. The Bears’ balanced attack featured three hat-tricks from Breil, Criddle, and Call, while Jeanine Webb anchored the offense with two goals and four assists. While the Darts took the loss, they earned respect by holding the Bears to their lowest scoring output of the season. With both teams playing at such a high level, the possibility of a future showdown between Bear River and Park City is becoming the talk of the state.

For Immediate Release - Elevate Lacrosse Launches Boys Program
After 14 years of building one of the state’s most established girls lacrosse programs, Elevate Lacrosse is expanding. Beginning this summer, the club will launch its first ever boys program!
Elevate is focused on growing the girls game, developing athletes, and creating opportunities for players at every level. What started as a small program has grown into a community that now supports 300+ girls annually.
Elevate is excited to do the same on the boys’ side.
The new program will be led by Boys Program Director Scott Hansen, a current Brigham Young University Men’s Lacrosse player and national champion. Hansen brings high-level playing experience, strong fundamentals, and the character-driven approach that has become a hallmark of the Elevate program.
“Elevate has built something really special over the past 14 years,” Hansen said. “The culture, the expectations, and the commitment to player development are already in place. We’re excited to bring that same energy and structure to the boys side and give players in Utah a great place to compete and improve.”
John Tilley, Elevate founder, said the expansion is a natural next step.
“The same foundation that has fueled Elevate’s growth on the girls side is exactly what we’ll use to build the boys program,” Tilley said. “We’ve learned a lot over the last 14 years about how to run a strong club!”
Melissa Nash, one of the Elevate directors, added that families can expect the same experience as the girls.
“Families can expect the same level of organization, communication, and passion for lacrosse that Elevate has always been known for,” Nash said. “We know how to build the structure, Scott will lead the Xs and Os.”
Players interested in joining Elevate and Scott can register on the website right now! The team will practice on Monday and Wednesday evenings from the end of May until the beginning of August. Field location TBD.
