Coaches’ Poll: April 14th, 2025
Some major movement in the polls this week. Check out the up-and-comers!
Boys
No new entries to the Top 10 in Week 5 of the Boys Coaches Poll. The undefeated Corner Canyon Chargers (8–0) remain firmly at No. 1 for the fourth straight week, earning 90% of the first-place votes.
While the Top 10 teams stayed the same, there was notable movement within the rankings. Davis (7–0) made the biggest jump, continuing their impressive run as they head into Region 1 play. Could we be looking at another Davis vs. Corner Canyon 6A Championship matchup? If both teams keep this pace, it’s a real possibility.
Brighton, Farmington, and Judge each moved up one spot, while Olympus took the biggest hit—dropping five places to No. 8. West Field and undefeated Waterford continue to hover just outside the Top 10.
Some districts were still on spring break during Week 5, but with a full schedule resuming and region play starting across the board, we’ll soon see how things shake out.
Girls
With several districts still on spring break, there was minimal movement in this week's Girls Coaches Poll.
Park City holds onto the top spot for the fifth straight week, continuing an undefeated run against in-state opponents. Mountain Ridge climbs back to #2, while Olympus slides to #3.
The biggest shakeup came from Bear River, jumping two spots to #5 after continuing their perfect season. Riverton traded places with the Bears, dropping to #7. Despite suffering their first loss, Salem Hills held steady at #6.
A warm welcome to Skyridge, making their Top 10 debut this week. Farmington, Brighton, and Lone Peak all remained in place.
With spring break behind us, we return to a full schedule next week, and regional play is kicking off across the board. Exciting matchups are ahead in all classifications!

Girls: Viewmont Vikings vs Copper Hills Grizzlies
It was a gorgeous spring day as the Viewmont Vikings headed to South Jordan on April 10th to take on the Copper Hills Grizzlies. The two teams faced off on April 10th, with Copper Hills ready to hand the Vikings their first season loss.
As the first quarter started off, it seemed like they might make that a reality. The Copper Hills offense put three quick scores on the board before the Vikings knew what hit them. Teammates Ellanore McDonald, Tiffany Bach, and Kyah Reading all had goals in the Grizzlies’ hot start. Viewmont did finally answer back at the 6:48 mark with a strong goal from Brighton Tebbs, one of four on the afternoon, and Maddie Gaskill to get within one. However, the Grizzlies’ Elise Southworth snuck one by Vikings goalie Makalee Sample right before the end of the quarter to give the home-field Grizzlies a 4-3 lead.
We are all familiar with the saying, “Don’t poke the bear!” Well, in this case, it was, “don’t poke the Viking”, especially Viewmont’s Cece Walton. Walton introduced herself with the second quarter goal just 16 seconds into the period and it did not take her long to add goals, two, three, and four, in the second quarter alone. Teammate Brienna Wallis added a fifth goal by Copper Hills goalie Sophie Wilson for the Vikings to take an 8-6 lead into the break.
The third quarter turned into a Viking offensive showcase, with Viewmont scoring six goals throughout the quarter. Copper Hills goalie Wilson started the quarter off by making three fantastic saves against an onslaught of shots by the Viking offense. Then Walton got the ball, and the scoring barrage began, six straight Viking goals. With some help from Tebbs, Wallis, and a stubborn defense holding the Grizzlies to a third-quarter shutout, the Vikings took complete control of the third quarter, the second half, and the game with a strong victory of 15-7.
A big shout out to Viewmont’s Cece Walton, who ended up with seven goals and three assists for the game. That final goal puts her over 200 for her high school career.
The still undefeated Vikings now have a big game against 4A champion and undefeated Bear River on the horizon, and Copper Hills will take on the up-and-coming Hillcrest Huskies.
Boys: Waterford Ravens vs Roy Royals
The Roy Royals headed south to Sandy to face the streaking and undefeated Waterford Ravens in some boys’ lacrosse action on April 11th.
It took a few minutes of on-field action between the two unfamiliar programs before Waterford’s Gavin Rurka found the back of the net for the game's first score (one of six goals from him in the game) about midway through the first quarter.
Roy didn’t wait long to respond with a goal by Carden Schieb to tie the game at 1-1. Then, Waterford had an offensive surge, tossing a lot of fire at Roy goalie Hank Mullen, with teammates Rurka, Miles Walkingshaw, and Noah Chao adding a few scores to take the Ravens into the second quarter with a tough 4-1 lead.
Roy responded in the second quarter by scoring three of the first four goals, with Kenai Suduka, Wesley Barker, and Tyler Dickson all contributing to the offensive onslaught. The Royals outscored the Ravens 4-3 in the second quarter to take some momentum into halftime down 7-5.
The second quarter rally by the Royals didn’t carry over to the second half. The Ravens offense found another gear with 11 goals scored by seven different players, including Alani Aho, Andrew Rurka, Max Mishurda, Ryder Walkingshaw, and Aiden Sandstrom.
The key behind the dominant second half was just not the hot offense. The defense, led by senior goalie #10 Jackson Sandstrom, set up a defensive barrier that couldn’t be broken. The Ravens’ defense pitched a second-half shutout, keeping the Royals off the board the entire second half.
A big shout-out to the Ravens long polls, including Aho, Thomas Howard, and Clayton Wright, for setting up an unbreakable wall in front of Sandstrom and getting the 18-5 victory for the Ravens.
The Royals head to Northridge next, and Waterford has a contest with Spanish Fork before region play begins.
Players of the Week
Girls
Sadie Goble, Clearfield High School, goalie
“Sadie just delivered one of, if not the best, performance of her career in leading Clearfield High to a 9-8 double overtime victory on Wednesday against Springville. It was an emotional night, and by the end, we were down 6 varsity starters due to various injuries and illnesses. It was looking bleak. Springville was playing a fantastic game, but Sadie was not going to let her team down. She stepped up with 19 saves and was amazing! No chance we would have gotten an overtime win without her absolutely epic performance.” — Coach Jake Wood
Others to watch
CeCe Walton, Viewmont High School, attack: As we reported above CeCe marked 200 career goals this week! Amazing!
Anna Jaussi, Provo High School, attack: 13 goals, four assists, 10 ground balls, and four caused turnovers in games against North Ridge and Mountain View.
Boys
Gage Wright, West Field High School, attack
An amazing fifteen goals in one week in games against Judge Memorial, Bear River, and Ridgeline!
“Gage is the heart and soul of the offense. He is great at scoring but also facilitating and making the offense go.” — Coach Zach Colohan
Others to watch
Luke Richardson, Snow Canyon High School, midfield: Currently leading in the state with an amazing 118 ground balls.
Inspirational Athlete of the Week
Bryson Pabst, Green Canyon High School, defensive midfield/O-fly
“Bryson is a 2nd-year player who has developed his lacrosse skills faster than any player I've ever coached. He brings a higher level of athleticism to our team, and his work ethic and confidence are contagious. He is that playmaker every coach wishes they had on their team, and although it's not a statistic that is tracked in MaxPreps, Bryson is 100% on one-man clears for the season.” — Coach Troy Oldham
