Westminster Head Coach Joe Kerwin Interview
c/o ShootingStar Photography/Westminster College
The latest podcast (available on Apple Podcasts and Spotify or listen above) features an interview with Westminster Head Coach Joe Kerwin. Kerwin and I talked about how he became involved in lacrosse and what led to coaching at Westminster. We talk about the team, team culture, etc. Kerwin coached at Bend HS, Oregon and Notre Dame de Namur before taking the job as an assistant at Westminster where he served until former head coach Mason Goodhand retired this summer.
Corner Canyon Commits
Corner Canyon Junior Blaze DeGracie committed to Air Force on Saturday. This tweet says it all:
On the girls side, Senior goalie Ella Cheminant committed to Westminster.
A New Women’s Pro League
Athletes Unlimited announced this week that a new professional women’s league will be formed and play will begin on July 19, 2021. From the site:
Athletes Unlimited Lacrosse will play a short form, fast paced format consisting of eight-minute quarters, 9v9 gameplay and a 60-second shot clock all housed on an 80yd x 50yd playing field. Athletes Unlimited Lacrosse will be comprised of 56 players that will roster four teams of 14 players each. Play will begin with draws at the beginning of each quarter as well as after every goal.
This will be interesting to follow as the professional women’s game continues to try and find a foothold.
I wanted to give some love to other lacrosse podcasts that I’ve enjoyed that are good listens if you’re looking for something lacrosse related.
Inside Lacrosse staff Terry Foy, Matt Kinnear and Halley Griggs discuss one of the biggest questions looming over the sport of lacrosse — will there be a 2021 college season? The trio compares notes based on their conversations with college coaches, the inferences based on how fall and winter college sports are moving forward and more. Listen here.
Phi-Lacrosse-ophy Podcast - This is a great podcast that is hosted by Jamie Munro. If you geek out on specifics and fundamentals, then this podcast is for you. Jamie does a great job and is a great host. He often has high level coaches as guests and is a big fan of the free play movement.
If you are new to the Utah Lax Report, here’s a list of the podcasts I’ve done so far:
